Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 The Daily News reported today that the Mets were discussing a deal as recently as Tuesday that would send Lagares to San Francisco for Joe Panik. The deal doesn't look like it's going to happen, as the Giants would want more than just Lagares and the Mets decided not to go forward.Specific players aside, trading an outfielder for yet another infielder doesn't seem like the best way to balance the roster.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Hi. I'm Joe Panik. I'm another guy who doesn't hit any better than the infielders you already have. But hey! I don't make much money, so that's something!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Author Posted February 15, 2018 I do like his name, though. It's the opposite of this guy's name:
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Adding Panik at this point would be as redundant as that shoulder patch on the Giants' uniform that uses the exact same wordmark as the front of the uniform.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 I'm guessing talk of the deal probably died with the Frazier signing.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 (edited) Panik is a better fielder than Cabrera so if they can move Cabrera then bring Panik home!https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=11936&position=2BFielding ratings over the last 2 years: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=2b&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Edited February 15, 2018 by Guest

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Tabloids would have a field day. "Panik Attack", "Time to Panik", "Panik Button", etc.

In that light, it's a decent idea, but I'm betting the MFY never gave the Mets anything worthwhile, which made the Panik trade moot.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 I kinda like Panik. I'm ready to move on from Cabrera, and I think, Cabrera is ready to move on from us.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 There's something to that. Panik's a'ight.Wait, who the hell are you?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2018 Author Posted February 16, 2018 I have a hunch that TJ Rivera (or Wilmer Flores) will replace Cabrera at second base. Next year if 2018 goes well (and Cabrera is productive) and next year if not.Or maybe they'll sign Daniel Murphy as a free agent.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 The Tigers should sign him so there could be a Panik in Detroit.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Or he could sign with Seattle, which could get a sponsorship deal with the Space Needle, renaming the stadium after it... that way, you could have a Panik in Needle Park.
