Hey, somebody just gave René Rivera $2.8 million to catch for them in 2018, and that somebody is the Angels. While you may have expected René to be in the take-a-minor-league-deal-and-live-in-hope phase of his career, following his trade from the Mets to the Cubs last year, he somehow went all Céspedes, laying down a .341 / .408 / .591 // .999 in a 20-game, 50-plate appearance blast.

The 2017 season was just so weird.

Dillon Gee, ex-Met and reportedly a pathological liar, has signed on with The Chunichi Dragons for the handsome sum of ¥120 million. Dillon says that he is excited to be part of the team and looks forward to helping the Dragons be successful.

Is he the one with the twelve year old looking wife? Is that what he's lying about?

While Kari Ann Gee certainly appeared a little juvenile back in her Mets days, it never occurred to me that Dillon might be lying about her age (shudder).

I actually (very) unfairly disparaged Dillon there. I conflate him with John Maine, whose Mets career ended (and his nickname earned) in Washington, after he assured his coaches that he was fine and ended up getting pulled after just five pitches.

Looked them up and I don't think it was her I was thinking of. She's pretty cute.

Good luck to the Grandyman

The Indians, perhaps to make up for the loss of Jay Bruce, invite someone who presumably met him in New York, Adam Wilk, to Spring Training.

To pitch, if that's not clear.

Thanks. I got lucky with two images that matched up pretty well. Only took a couple of minutes to whip that up

Not just the wrong trousers but also the wrong kind of trousers (plus this is something only tangentially NYM-related) but Tuesday night's trade by the KC Chiefs of QB Alex Smith to the Redskins
essentially hands KC's starting QB job next season to Pat Mahomes Jr -- formally listed as Patrick Lavon Mahomes II.
He was KC's top draft pick (10th overall) last June out of Texas Tech.

I even posted in that other thread.
Yikes!
I must have been channeling another CPF-er.

Just 47 ABs for Hanshin in 2017 -- sounds like the injury bug even hits former NY Mets -- where he notched 9 hits including 2 doubles and 1 HR
So, yeah.

Tommy Milone, on a minor league deal with the Nats. Which means I'm likely to see him pitch here in the 'Cuse in their last year as a Nats affiliate.

I know the 50 ABs (12 hits, 1 HR) of catcher Robinson Cancel for your 2008-2009 NYM were memorable, so the odds are that his new tenure as manager for the Asheville Tourists (Sally Lg, Colorado franchise) should be just as notable for the Puerto Rican native.
