Maybe $16 million. He might not be inclined to take it, but I think the odds are that his upside is pretty mediocre from here forward. From what I've been reading in the press this off-season, I don't think the Mets can afford to offer Harvey 2/$18M. Their budget appears to be severely limited and starting pitching, even with all of last season's injuries, is still the Mets biggest strength -- even without Harvey.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Harvey made $5+ this past year and, just by the nature of service time as a factor in the arbitration process, is probably due at least a small bump from there despite 2017's suckitude, so it's not like suddenly paying him $8 or $9 instead (as the above proposals suggest) is going to bust the budget. The question is to what degree they believe he's got some good pitching left in him.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I am so sick of the Mets’ limited budget.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I imagine Harvey wouldn't be offered a two-year, $24 million extension by any team.
