With all these games only available on radio lately, I'm starting to like listening to the radio guys more than Gary, Keith and Ron. It's mostly Gary I'm not a huge fan of.

The team is showing marked improvement offensively. In July, they're hitting .283/.359/.473. Since June 1, they're hitting .245/.318/.424. That doesn't sound like much, but through the end of May, they were hitting .229/.295/.359. I'm cautiously bullish on this team right now.

Mets interim manager Andy Green said Thursday that Vientos has been diagnosed with a fractured right hand and will be placed on the 10-day injured list, Chelsea Janes of SNY.tv reports. Vientos was struck by a 92-mph sinker thrown by Michael Wacha in the second inning of Thursday's game versus the Royals, and imaging revealed the unfortunate news. I remember being at a Mets game in Pittsburgh and, pre-game, Regan was standing there on the field. A couple of younger women (early 20s probably) in the stands were trying to get his attention and being all flirty. He played in the Orioles system from 2021 to 2024 and the Rays system in 2025, joining the Mets when they signed him as a free agent. If this gives you PTSD because you recall the destruction of another recent older career-minor league call-up, that would be understandable. It gets even worse when you see that he has a 4.96 career ERA and 1.629 WHIP in his career. 2026 has been different, in a positive way, however. Between Double-A and Triple-A, he is 4-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 27 appearances, striking out 38 in 33 1/3 innings. At Double-A, his mark is 2.77; at Triple-A, it is 1.77. I'd rather have minor leaguers with no experience getting the call at this point, because you really don't know what you're going to get. When you keep calling up major league washups, you can expect washup-quality performance.
