I figured if it really was him: 1 - They'd have at least showed/mentioned that he was there, if not actually had him throw out the first pitch or something. 2 - He would've had better seats.

  3. ="DocTee"]A thread with this title, on this day, that refers to anything other than the fall of the twin towers, is in poor taste. You know - I was thinking about saying something but, it's just us and we're not a callous group of people. It was not meant as an affront or to disrespect the memory.
  4. Okay - I'm wrong. Not the first time, not the last.

  6. I was at a little league practice with my son and was checking the score on my BlackBerry. We were so looking forward to going home and watching the rest of the game after practice. By the time the practice was over so were the Mets. Such a blow because wasn't Maine's 1-hitter the day before? He gave us so much hope that the bleeding had finally stopped and then that douchebag Glavine...
  7. Tom 'I'm not devastated' Glavine.

  9. metirish wrote: Ok so that's confirmed , regardless don't the Mets have a lot of money potentially coming of the books? I think 'money coming off the books' is a misconception. Yes, they won't be paying Pedro, but don't Reyes and Wright get significant raises? If they are able to trade Castillo you know they'll have eat a lot of that contract. Ollie's going to cost them big time, they still owe Randolph over $2 million. Where's the money coming off of?
  10. Wright - 3 Beltran - 2 Ayala - 1 Schneider - 1 Smith - 1 Tatis - 1 Delgado - .5 Easley - .5
  11. Maris is for the Wild Card elimination.
  12. I took my son last night. We had a good time because ultimately the damn thing ended the right way. There was a guy sitting in the seat in front of us who looked really familiar. We were high fiving after big hits and generally being 'fan-friendly' toward each other but even though I thought he looked familiar I couldn't place him. Then somebody asked him something and gave him a ball to sign. The guy signed it and that was that. After the game ended we got up to leave and a few more people recognized him and asked him for autographs. Apparently he was - or everybody thought he was - Roger Federer. I'm not so sure. The guy definitely resmbled Federer but I think he was just getting a kick out of people thinking he was and decided to pretend he was and sign. Did they show him or mention that Federer was there last night on TV?
  13. ="duan"]want a conspiracy theory? Mets, knowing that Wagner's either going to explode or be perpetually teetering decide to see if they can force the issue. If he gets through and is ok - wah hey - we got ourselves a primo reliever down the stretch and in the playoffs - he goes down, he's out for a season and we get to cash in the insurance we took out and can spend that on someone else in the off season. Course I've no idea if they've got the contract insured but ya want a conspiracy theory i've given you one. Today's New York Times... ]INSIDE PITCH ... The Mets insurance policy does not cover Billy Wagners 2009 salary, meaning they are responsible for all $10.5 million. That makes it extraordinarily unlikely that they will pursue a high-priced closer like Francisco Rodrguez of the Angels. Wagner had reconstructive elbow surgery Wednesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
  14. (Edgy - I can't see your image but I'm wondering if we're thinking alike...?)

  16. To paraphrase what I believe is an old Asian proverb - we live in interesting times. Anybody anywhere these days can whip out their phone or camera and shoot a quick vid, post it on the intranets and - BAM - its everywhere. I find it amazing.
  17. My apologies, I stand corrected.
  18. Ahem. ="Benjamin Grimm"]BOX SCORE Delgado 5 Santana 5 Nuff said! Sir, We ask that you refrain from making 'comments' in the POTG threads. Thank you.

  21. Centerfield wrote: I'm completely indifferent about the apple. If the new park didn't have one, I probably wouldn't have noticed. The orange dot on the cap is to Centerfield as the Home run Apple is to soupcan.
  22. That's great. Your brother's da bomb.
  23. In 1988 I had season tix on the mezz on the third base side. Section 18 I think. The best thing about those seats was when Straw cranked one into the rightfield bullpen. You saw the entire trajectory of the ball - it was a thing of beauty. Not sure if this was the longest one I ever saw but it was a bottom of the 10th 2 run shot off Franco to win the game 4-3. It's one of the most memorable homeruns I've witnessed. May 6, 1988
