  1. I get all of that. I'm just amazed that a guy who is advertises himself as a knowledgable voice of reason would make such ridiculous pronouncements. Trade Wright and/or Reyes to get better??
  2. I realize its sportstalk radio and that the host's job is to be controversial and generate phone calls but it was a bit over the top yesterday. Francesa was definitively stating several things: -There are only three 'untouchables' on the Mets - Santana, Beltran and Pelfrey. -That Wright and Reyes are 'non-clutch' performers who should be traded while their value is high. -That if the Mets switch managers they can keep the core but if they bring Manuel back they must 'explode the core'. Again - I get the whole 'I'm going to be controversial and say outlandish things to stir up the pot' but to say that to get better this team should trade the two best position players it has ever developed? A guy that's 25 years old and has driven in 100 runs in each of his last 4 seasons? A guy that is one of the most dangerous and exciting players in the game? I just don't understand that thinking. Sure you want people to call in to the show and debate with you but doesn't a host worry about his credibility? I guess not.
  3. So we can conclude that the offense was not the problem? Hmmm, what could it have been then...?

  6. 190?! I'm 5'11" and weigh 187. Take a look at me in the photo thread. Mr. Cancel and I do not have similar body types.

Is Evan's dad an investment banker by any chance?

Benjamin Grimm wrote: When I saw Schoeneweis take the mound, I just "knew" that the Marlins would end up scoring the winning run that inning. I think we all knew that. Schoenweis came in I turned to my brother-in-law and said 'not a good move'.
  10. A few I took yesterday... Me, Gil Degout who has been the server in our section for as long as they've had servers there, my son and my nephew. Yeah, good fucking riddance. Yeah, whatever. Packed house. Was so ready to rock. Everpresent airplanes. Ollie looking good early on. My best friend. I think he stayed the whole game. Seemed to be living and dying like the rest of the great unwashed. This was actually from a weeks ago but still a nice shot. Islanders cheeerleaders.
  11. ...as of 6:30 this morning.
  12. 6. Fuck this team.

    Homers

When I was a kid, 30 homeruns was a big deal. It seems like its back to that again which is a good thing. Its too bad that the single season record is 73 now though, because it becomes one of those records that will never be touched and yet will always be tainted and a big fat reminder. 61 was always such a hallowed mark. 73 just has a bad smell.
  14. Good. Fuck 'em.

Damn right you can't. Radio the rest of the way for you sharpie!
  17. ="Farmer Ted"]Skyline survives. Yeah, that is good news. I dig the skyline.
  18. ="Benjamin Grimm"] They were using those things when I first started following the Mets, but I don't recall when they stopped. And I don't know when they started, either. Anyone? I don't know when they stopped using the 'cap cars' but I do know that did replace them with regular cars. They'd have some local dealer give them a Nissan painted with the Mets logo and pinstripes. Such a disappointment to see those after becoming so attached to the golfcarts. I think I read that teams throughout the league stopped the process of chauffering the relief pitchers to the mound due to insurance issues.
  19. Prior to the 1988 season my friend Dave and I decided to buy 2 season seats. We called Shea and were invited to come out and take a tour with about 20 other people who were also buying seats to check out the views from those seats that were available. We settled on section 18 in the loge on the third base side. During the tour the guy leading us was telling us about the new additions to Shea that had been or were being completed that off-season. One of the 'improvements' the guide pointed out, was the addition of the LF and RF umpire spots on the scoreboard for the postseason. My friend and I looked at each other and sharing the same thought he said 'Oy, Kenahora'. They did make the payoffs that season and we had a great time in those seats that year, but it was quite some time before those lights were lit again. And how does that guy Meisel possibly think he is the only one who notices the red lights on the out-of-town scoreboard indicating which teams are batting? Those were like some of the first things I would ever show anyone on heir first trip to Shea. How to read the OoTS and tell the National League Standings by the order of the team pennants that ring the stadium top. Where are those flags by the way? I think they replaced all of those with American Flags right after 9/11.
  20. SteveJRogers wrote: Great, we get a team that would love nothing better than to knock us out on the final weekend AGAIN, and they get a team that probably will just be a bunch of C-Teamers. Should be one hell of a Goddamned weekend. Yeah, those C-Teamers really laid down for the Mets, huh? Fuck the Marlins (or as Beltran called them in the postgame - 'The Marlease'). The Marlins have never been shy about expressing their desire to beat the Mets. The Mets should take that and run with it and pound those fuckers into sand. This is the last weekend at Shea forever, there is a playoff berth on the line, the Mets are home with a packed house for all 3 games and Santana's pitching on Sunday. Let's go.
  21. Multiple. And I got 'em too.
  22. Oh absolutely. If nothing else, the shirt says you're a Mets fan. If YOU like it, fuckin' wear it.
  23. I'm guessing its counterfeit. Why would M&N produce something like that that the team never wore?
  24. It's been said a million times already - it's a cockpunch loss and this season has been chock full of them. That should be the theme to the 2008 highlight video - The New York Mets 2008 Season - Chock Full O' Cockpunches!
