  1. Kranepool?! Stop with the crazy talk!!
  2. I've got less of a problem with Strawberry than I do with Gooden but still, Straw can go suck an egg. Take 16 & 18 out of circulation? Why? Because the two of them made some All-Star teams while they were Mets? Rookies of the year? World Champions? Cy Young? How many ultimately mediocre players on every other team in the majors have similar accomplishments and don't have their numbers retired? Quite a fucking few I'm thinking. The only difference to me between those two is that Gooden's performance while he was with the Mets was affected by his drug use and Strawberry's wasn't. The Mets dodged a bullet when the Dodgers signed Straw. Unfortunately for the organization and their fans, they weren't so lucky with Doc. As to the revelation that Johnny Lunch just posted - I'm not nearly surprised. As Edgy stated, Dwight's looked pretty bad for a while now. Sad to say but I won't be surprised when in the next year or so we read about his ultimate demise. I wish that neither of those guys ever got involved with drugs and then played their whole career with the Mets. That didn't happen but you know what did? I invested a lot of my personal fandom and emotion in both of them. Almost 30 years later, I still harbor resentment towards Gooden, and Straw doesn't help his case by acting like the Mets owe him something more than EVERYTHING they've already given him.
  3. Um, why is the AL the home team in an NL park? What the fuck has MLB done with this game!?
  4. Why's everything gotta be about merchandise? Those are some ugly-ass hats.

I gotta think that all it would take is adding 2 years to the contract at whatever they're paying him per annum now ($27 mil?). And I gotta think they're thinking pretty seriously about it.
  6. American Ninja Warrior time.
  7. And Kenny forgetting # of outs. These two are a dream team.
  8. I can't listen to Verducci lecture Reyes about how to play. Has he had a glove on his hand since little league?
  9. Murph being Murph.
  10. Nice shout out to MBTN.net.!
  11. Really? Can't find a spot for Flores anywhere? Geez, Terry. I mean yeah it's nice to have a hot bat on the bench but isn't it better to get that hottie 4 ABs?
  12. bmfc1 wrote: Season-ending surgery, that's what's next for Harvey. Per Rubin: "Scott Boras tells ESPN that Matt Harvey will undergo surgery in St. Louis with Dr. Thompson to address thoracic outlet syndrome, ending his season. Boras says this is the reason Harvey underperformed this season." Good on all counts. Get it done, fix the problem, plenty of rehab time, ready in the spring, the Dark Knight Returns in 2017.
  13. I'm not leaving it in the shadows but at the same time, I'm not condemning him for it for the rest of his life. I am doing this because of the history that I personally have with him (in my mind of course). What he did - if he did what we all say he did and he says he did - was horrible and heinous, but again is it something that he cannot ever be forgiven for? Does he not get a second chance to prove he can be a better man? I'm choosing to believe that he is regretful, that he is attempting to atone for his actions and that he wants to be the guy we always thought he was. Honestly though - through these past three games he's played for the Mets, it has been harder than I thought to root for him unconditionally.
  14. I think that you'd have a hard time finding a professional athlete to cheer for if all of their personal lives were laid bare and made public for all to see. You root for the laundry.

  16. Werth, Murphy, Harper. Hold on to your hats.
  17. Per Sandy: Symptoms are consistent with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Two options available. Temporary fix that includes use of nerve blocking meds. Second option is surgery. In Harvey's case surgery would mean no return to baseball activities for 4 months so basically we're talking about 2017. Sandy has not spoken to Harvey yet so thats all he's got. Per soupcan: So, do the temporary stuff and see if it works. If it does, get back on the hill and have the surgery post-post season. You're back on the mound at Citi by June at the latest. If the meds don't work, then go get cut pal and we'll see you in the spring. Bing bang boom.
  18. August 1st is fine.
  19. What's Wheeler's status? Wasn't he supposed to be good to go following the All Star break?
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Forget it. That's not what he said. He said his being a douchebag was a problem regardless of his health So clear it up. From what you wrote before it sounded like Kiernan made a connection from being a douche to being hurt. Is that wrong?
  21. And so was Steve Carlton and a million other douchebag players. To say thats the reason he continues to get hurt is a bit of a stretch to say the least.
  22. Ceetar wrote: Personally I take nothing from Kernan's armchair psychiatrist act, especially when he mentions the media interactions. Maybe Harvey's wound too tight, wouldn't be the first guy, but plenty of guys actually thrive that way. Double-standard. I'd need to hear something beyond "I think he needs to loosen up" before I believed it was causing issues, especially in the wake of an actual medical issue that seems like it has a much larger chance of causing mental or physical harm. Agreed. Whats Kiernan saying? That if Harvey were nicer to him he wouldnt get hurt so much? STFU.
  23. I thought for sure Wilma would get a start at 1B today.
