  1. One of the employees at the ST Nats/Mets game we went to in Florida presented Fgirl with a foul ball (much to Fboy's dismay). I have caught two of them at the local AAA park. Sorry sucker, AAA games don't count. I've gotten exactly ONE foul ball in my years of attending MAJOR LEAGUE games. This one:
  2. WFAN just said that Oswalt's departure has to do with 'tornado activity near his home in Mississippi'.
  3. It got easier for me though. Once it came out publicly that Cooby was living with 19 cats, pretty much everybody realized what a loon she was and I wasn't alone in my disdain.
  4. I saw the end of that Yankee game. Yanks down 3-2, bottom 9 with tying and winning runs on 2nd and 3rd, one out. ARod blasts one to the deepest part of right field (edge of the infield grass at Citi), the right fielder goes back-back-back-back fast, hits the wall hard with glove hand extended fully away from his body and......MAKES THE CATCH! Two outs. ARod slaps hands against head in frustration as he hits first base. Cano up next, lines an absolute screamer to right, a no-doubt double EXCEPT the said same right fielder sprints to his left, dives and makes a full extension belly flop and...MAKES THE CATCH! Game over! As the White Sox RF is in the process of actually making the catch he pumps his arms in celebration! Cano slams down his helmet upon reaching first. Great ending. OE: I was wrong - runners were on first and second not second and third. No matter though, if the ARod ball fell in, the game would've been tied and if the Cano ball fell, the Skankees would've won.
  5. But they play 81 games in a bandbox and ARod, Texiera, Posada, Cano and Granderson are going to keep hitting them even if Martin and the rest of them cool off, no? I'd think that having a park like that and relying in the homerun isn't necessarily a dumb thing. Earl Weaver won lots of games that way.

Cheddar, Pepper Jack, Chipotle Aioli, Bacon and Guacamole. Served with chips and -- this is the funniest part -- a tootsie roll pop. Excellent food and marketing. yes, it's good stuff. I had on last Wednesday. I need to try to Gold Glove burger. I hear you guys but Tootsie Pop or no, if I'm having a burger at Citi, I'm going Shake Shack.
  7. I think Vlad took it from A New York Times article this a.m. So it definitely had a local slant to it.
  8. I'm starting to think if Ceeter was a Jew in Auschwitz he'd have found a bright side.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Crazy report. This flagship of a franchise worth a billon dollars gets effectively absorbed, the story is not whether this is a precedent for the Mets. Maybe not to Dodger fans and the general public but it is to Mets fans.
  10. MFS62 wrote: From Rotoworld: Bobby Parnell - R - Mets Bobby Parnell has been dealing with an issue with his right middle finger. Team doctors have told the right-hander that it could be a desensitized nerve, but there hasn't been anything conclusive. Parnell has admitted that the ailment makes it hard for him to grip the baseball, which may help to explain his 6.14 ERA and 1.91 WHIP. He was able to appear in Tuesday's game, but it's not clear if the Mets might shut him down for a few days. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/5658/bobby-parnell Later I say aneuryism. Because why not?

  12. Yes, love this commercial too. When Mr. Met 'can't hear you...' When the gal does the heart thing with her hands. Just great.
  13. Phil Todt looks like Edgy hurt his feelings.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: How about that Thole, though? Breaking in a young catcher is hard, and doing it without a veteran catcher who knows the league sharing the load seems to be hurting Thole. None of his starters are making their pitches and he's not doing bupkis to stop the running game. Flushing needs Paulino as much as Bay, I fear. Hadn't thought about that lack of a veteran catcher thing. That's a good point.
  15. Yeah sure it's free and it doesn't hurt anyone. Ceetar reminds me of me as a Mets fan circa 1979-80. I would look at the fact that Mark Bomback had won 22 games in AAA and thought 'HA! Just wait till HE shows 'em what he can do..!' And I can appreciate what you say Ceetar, but being 'in it' doesn't count. They're bad, they're losing. Whether it be 5-4 or 6-1. A loss is a loss is a loss. I don't mean to deride, I'm just frustrated and I want everyone else to be pissed off too.
  16. Ceetar wrote: I'll be there tonight myself. Gonna whip them into shape. They've looked worse the last couple of days, but maybe teams just look worse when they're not hitting versus not pitching. I know you pride yourself on being 'optimistic', but dude they are bad all around and they are not getting better anytime soon.
  17. metirish wrote: judging for the TV it looked utterly miserable there.....no concession lines is a good thing but you'd rather have long lines and a good team. Most definitely.
  18. Was there last night. I highly doubt that the announced attendance of 27,000 was anything close to the amount of people that were there. The entire triangle-shaped right centerfield section was empty. No lines for any concession stand. The people that were there were surprisingly vocal though, doing the 'ooooh' and 'aaaah' thing for every routine flyball off the bat. This season is not going to suck anymore, it is well in the midst of complete and utter suckitude.
  19. ...Maybe we'll be lucky enough to have him as a Brave one day As a Mets fan I appreciate the sentiment from the Braves fan, but please....no.
  20. I would have no problem 86-ing (see what I did there?) the entire ML roster except for Wright, Reyes and Davis. That's what makes me so upset - that Reyes has one foot and nine toes out the door. Save for that, I'd be on board.
  21. dgwphotography wrote: if things get worse, perhaps this team can be ripped from the Wilponzi's cold, dead hands sooner. rather than later. I'm thinking that this may be the only possible positive outcome of this already lost season.

  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Oscar Gamble remains the gold standard of afros but, during the mid-70s, I think Nino Espinosa and Billy Baldwin were the Mets that my then 10-11 year-old sister referred to as "the Mickey Mouse Twins" in honor of their large, black, rotund "ears" that stuck out from under their caps.
  24. Ceetar wrote: I wonder if the Reyes contract ext will be announced soon, or if they'll wait until the minority sale is official.. HA! You're optimistic AND funny!
  25. I don't know, are you? As I said, I've read a lot of stuff which leads me to believe that no matter how the Wilpons/Katzes come out of this, the way they ran the finances through, in and aroiund Madoff was done in such a way that even the most experienced forensic accountants have been scratching their heads trying to unravel it all. They do not have the financial wherewithall that they once had (by a significant margin) and will not be able to support the running of the team in a similar fashion to how they had. They would borrow from banks and then hand the money over to Madoff to invest, thinking that the returns they got back from Bernie would cover the interest/principal on those loans and then both finance team operations and reinvest with Madoff(!) the rest. Monies for deferred salaries were all with Madoff as well as 401(k)s and Lord knows what else.
