  2. SIGN HIM, SIGN HIM, SIGN HIM, SIGN HIM!!
  3. What I'm guessing you did not see on TV was Little Chris bouncing his pitch right in front of the plate and Freakin' Josh 'Stone Hands' Thole, letting the ball go right through his legs!!! I'm serious. Thole got a passed ball on the ceremonial first pitch that he couldn't handle from a 10 year-old.
  4. Fat Ed Hearn - yup, noticed it too, even more alarming than very old looking, bald George Foster. Stupid fans - was sitting next to a guy and we were talking Mets. He's telling me all the games he's been to and how many different places he's sat at Citi and I'm thinking 'okay, I can talk Mets with this guy, he must know his stuff.'. Then he starts going off in the 1st when a ball drops in in front of Pridie, screaming 'C'mon Angel, you gotta charge in on those!'. Really? Pagan's been on the DL for almost 2 weeks now guy. That's when I checked out on him and started talking with the guy to my right. The guy on my right was fine, chit-chat here and there. He was more concerned with his girlfriend and beer than he was with me which was fine, because I had my boy and his friends with me anyway. Then, top 9, guy leans over to me and says, 'damn, Niese is looking alright tonight!'. Dude, Niese has been in the dugout for an hour. Oh, well.

  7. Douche chills. Camera Carter all over Bush, even brushing an insect off the V.P.'s lapel. Mazzilli: 'Uh, hey uh, tanks fa havin' us Mistah President' Wilpon brings a jacket for The Gipper and chucks an ordinary souvenir stand hat at Bush. 'Here you go sucker, maybe if you work harder, one day you can get a cool jacket like your boss. And where was Mex and Dykstra and Darling and Sid and Davey and Backman and Raffy and Knight...? Why was like half the team (the good half) not there? Yeesh, that was painful.
  8. Right, because Lucas Duda is the exact same player as Jason Bay. Gimme a break.
  9. The whole thing is bullshit. Again, there are the same five to six months every year that a professional baseball player knows that he's committed to being with his team almost every day. It's really not that hard to look at a calendar and do some basic math when planning your family if that's your occupation. Also - FOUR days for paternity leave? Really? These guys make a minimum of what -$450,0000.00? They can all afford a baby nurse or nanny to help out mom for the duration. Daddy is not needed at home. If the guy wants to be there for the actual birth then, you know, whatever. But after you've had your first child and you see exactly what the entails, I'm not sure you A) really need to see it again or really want to. Again though, to each his own and I won't begrudge that (but still -as a ballplayer there are 3-4-5 months where you've got nothing but time, you know?). Bay in particular - making a bazillion dollars, lousy year last year, missed 40% of his team's games, team is struggling without him this year and he is only just back, lives 30 minutes from the stadium. That's 30 minutes. That means he could be home pretty fucking fast should the wife go into labor or need him for anything else. Yes, MLB says he is entitled to it and it's his right to take it but really Jason, do you really think you needed to? The two games he missed against SF were very winnable. A single at-bat from Bay could have turned either or both games. Bad decisions Jason, sorry.
  10. Not Sunday but I'm bringing four 14 year-old boys tonight. The plan is for me to sit back, relax, watch the game and let them wander and do whatever it is that 14 year-olds do at these newfangled stadiumalls. I think my odds are good that I'll be able to do that.

  13. Ceetar wrote: It looked like the strike zone was huge and they were calling every flinch a swing. Strike zone was big - he was calling high strikes. Didn't look like Ike swung at the low, inside strike three. Ceetar wrote: On Ike's single Beltran paused like it was a liner, but it looked like a clear grounder to me that he should've been running on, and surely would've scored. He stepped back to 2B at first. Nah, Beltran had to hold up. Shortstop was behind the bag and it wasn't clear whether he could have caught it or not.

  15. The following is a comment written in response to the article LWFS linked - I just had to share SJUFAN03 says: May 4, 2011, 1:4 PM ET Reyes would be pretty sweet, not only is he fast but he can also swing a bat. In NY they are talking about the Yankees trying to acquire Reyes to replace Jeter at SS (whether Jeter likes it or not) and Jeter moving to DH. If the Yankees enter the mix right now I doubt the giants have a chance since Reyes is already in NY. Taking Zito would be a good decision, the mets need a pitcher and Zito is the one of the best number fives in baseball even though he is making a number one salary He could move up the mets lineup and the mets could probably get away with paying him the minimum while the giants are on the hook for the rest. I think the Mets would take Zito and maybe whiteside (since their catcher apparently sucks) for Reyes. In NY they are talking about the Yankees trying to acquire Reyes to replace Jeter at SS (whether Jeter likes it or not) and Jeter moving to DH. Really? That's what we're talking about in NY? 'Cause I'm in NY and I haven't heard that. I mean aside from my 14 year-old and his friends. If the Yankees enter the mix right now I doubt the giants have a chance since Reyes is already in NY Right, because the Wilpon's priority when trading Reyes is to save on the moving costs. Taking Zito would be a good decision, the mets need a pitcher and Zito is the one of the best number fives in baseball I don't even know what to say. I think the Mets would take Zito and maybe whiteside (since their catcher apparently sucks) for Reyes. Barry Zito and their back-up catcher. Sure, why not?

  17. G-Fafif wrote: One SF was overheard to say, "Why aren't the Mets fans cheering? This is when their team needs the support." I don't have a good answer to that. Because we're sick of caring more about the game than the players or owners do?
  18. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Because the Mets wouldn't want to impose on the guy they paid 66 million dollars to play baseball. Maybe they could compromise and allow leave Bay to leave the game early -- say 9pm-ish. He could watch Letterman live. I'm starting to think that perhaps my position on Bay may in fact not be unpopular.
  19. Clearly, what Jose Reyes did at the plate last night was a rarity in Mets history. Any time a single player reaches base six times, it's highly likely that his team won the game, but it didn't turn out that way last night. Two final notes: Reyes is the only shortstop in team history to have done this, and he's also the only player to do so and steal a base during the game, which he did once in each game. And after perusing that list, the only player to have done it more than once. But so what, right? Trade him because he's not worth what he's going to get in his next contract. Doesn't provide any excitement, fans don't come to watch him, he's not a good guy, always gets in trouble off the field, etc., etc. I'm in a mood today boy.
  20. metirish wrote: I'm with Soupcan on this , all the way baby.....maybe Bay knocks in some of those men left on base last night. And THAT my friends is my point. Ceetar wrote: He's not sitting at home twiddling his thumbs either. Even if he were to 'pop over for the game' and ignore BP and all that, he'd still have to leave by like 5 and not get home until well after 11, if not longer. Dude, it's a homestand, the guy lives a half hour from the workplace. He can spend the day with the fam and get his thin-skulled Canadian ass over to Queens for the game.
  21. Ceetar wrote: soupcan wrote: I hate it when I care more about the Mets than the Mets do. I don't believe the Mets can/could possibly deny Bay his leave. It's an MLB thing. Yes, Ceetar I get that. I'm sure Bay's not being held prisoner in his home however.
  22. metirish wrote: hey, my co-worker took paternity leave January first and isn't back until June 1st.... Is your co-worker a multi-millionaire? Does your co-worker only work six-months per year? Did your co-worker miss 30% of work last year, performing far below expectations in the other 70% (if so, lucky guy to still have his job)? Did your co-worker just recently return to work and then take his 4 month leave? I hate it when I care more about the Mets than the Mets do.
  23. LARCHMONT?! 30 minutes from CitiField! My head is going to explode.
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I thought he was only going to miss two games? I don't care - same difference. I realize that he's 'entitled' to it, but it doesn't sit well with me. ....and how about a little planned parenting for MLB players? You friggin' know you're going to be working daily for a period of April to September (possibly October), why not put that in the mix when you think about making reproductive whoopee?
  25. And here's what I'm sure will be an unpopular opinion but I'm going to say it anyway (because 'controversy' is my middle name): Where does Jason Bay get off going on 4 days of Paternity Leave? Fucker's only been with the team for 10 days. He missed a million games last year and sucked in the one's he didn't. I would think he'd want to prove his worth / make up for lost time / earn his salary. It's not like it's his first kid and the wife needs him there to help out with the other two. This is his third kid, you want to be there for the birth - fine, but speaking from experience it's a lot less wonderment and a lot more disgusting smells. Whatever, to each his own. And whichever side you're on, it doesn't take an entire three game series (plus - ahem - an off day on Monday) to pop out a kid.
