  1. I was just gonna ask if anybody else hears Seawolf moaning on the TV feed? Must be those 6 doubleshacks.
  2. Across from Shake Shack I think. But why are you bothering? Look behind you - it's Shake friggin' Shack! You can't do better!
  3. Very observant of you irish. It has not been a lot of fun for him at all and he's starting to think about just not playing anymore. For a long time he really wanted to play on the high school team and that's what drove him to keep playing as he got older and most of his friends stopped playing baseball and moved on to other sports or other interests. His mom and I push him to keep playing because deep down we know he loves it and we think that if gets to be my size (5'10") by his sophomore year (which is when I grew) that the size/strength issue won't matter for him anymore and the fact that he would've kept playing and kept his skills sharp will have paid off. Unfortunately, he doesn't see that and it looks like he's less and less excited to go to his games each week because of coaches that don't play him. The one thing keeping him going is that the coach on his regular Babe Ruth team seems to like him, starts him and gives him ample opportunities. Bet you can't wait until Lorcan is 14. For me though, it is fun when he plays. At this level 80% of the routine plays are made - fly balls, groundballs, even double plays - and that's a real change from watching the kids all grow up coming through little league and learning to play. Deep fly balls aren't really an adventure anymore, when there's a kid on first and third, the runner at first won't automatically steal second and even if he tries, the catcher may in fact through down without the runner at third scoring. Little things like that make it fun for me.
  4. Thanks for the story Edgy. Sadly it is very similar to what my boy is dealing with. After his nice game Saturday morning, He sat the first 5 innings of the ensuing 7-inning All-Star game, seeing not one ball hit near him while he played RF the last 2 innings. In his one AB he was walked and the team lost 9-6. Thanks Doc, I will relay your slow-growth story to Junior. He's already heard a few of them, but the more he hears the better he feels. metsguyinmichigan wrote: And what's with youth coaches not getting all the kids into the games, and I mean actual playing time? Is freaking Bud Selig standing near the bleachers to hand the winning coach a trophy? Well, sort of. At this age they don't really have to play anyone. In Little League it is mandated that each kid be in the field a certain number of innings as well as have a continuous lineup (whole team bats). At 14 & 15, the coaches are trying to win and putting what they feel is their best team on the field. It is what it is unfortunately.
  5. Thanks Doc. Junior has not grown at the same rate as most of the boys and has not made a cut on a few of the teams he's tried out for recently. In each of those cases, the coaches told him to come back next season when he's bigger. He's taken that hard so for him to play as well as he did today in front of the other coach made him finally feel like he can still play with these kids and deserves to be on that team.
  6. Couldn't share this on Facebook for a coupla reasons so you folks are the lucky recipients. 14 year-old soupcan, jr. plays on 2 15U teams. A regular Babe Ruth League team and an All-Star Babe Ruth team made up of players from the 3 BR teams that our town has. The All-Star team plays other towns' All-Star teams and the regular Babe Ruth team plays other regular BR teams. So the coach of the All-Star team, rarely plays Junior. Puts him in as a defensive replacement in left or right late in the game just because he has to. Otherwise the child gets nada. The coach also coaches one of the towns other regular BR teams. This morning, Junior's regular team played that coach's regular team. Junior had a game, boy. Diving grab of a liner in left, backhanded a wicked grounder up the middle and threw the runner out at first while playing second. Leaping stab of a liner, also at second, singled to right with two out, driving in what was the go-ahead run at that point in the game and then pitched the last inning of a 1- run victory while giving up no runs and walking none to earn the save. It will be interesting to see if the coach will use him a bit more in the upcoming All-Star games, but even if he doesn't, Junior said, 'well, at lest he knows what I can do now'.
  7. Note to self: don't let CF beat me in a bidding war for majority ownership of the Mets. When I'm running things, this will be the deal: Home: pinstripes (no black drop shadow. 'City of Shadows' be damned), blue hats. I'm okay with the dot, but if getting rid of it will appease my friend, then - begone dot! Road: road grey, 'New York' across the chest, no friggin' shadow. Black hats with the blue brim. No other black anywhere on any uniform. If the public is absolutely clamoring for an 'alternate' uniform then the bone I will throw them will be the snow whites (again, no drop shadow) and that they will wear on Sunday home games with either the blue hats, or the black/blue road hats. I'll let my honest equipment manager decide that.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I hate artificial quirks. The older stadiums were quirky because they had to squeeze into a city block, or because they were playing in an arena designed for another sport. In these new stadiums the quirks are like windmills on a miniature golf course. They're just stupid. I agree but I do love this at Petco. When I took a tour there I learned that the official status of the stadium is an 'addition' to the Western Metal building as the building was the older and pre-existing structure. That's cool.

  10. I still have a hard time understanding his posts.

  12. 'Schwin-ning!'
  13. Edgy DC wrote: Well, it would be 'Kars for Jewish Kids,' but I think the concern is that the money is used more for the evenageligical welfare of the kids than the physical welfare. Okay, but it's not like they say in the commercials that is specifically for physical welfare do they? If you're going to contribute to a charity, it's your responsibility to a little legwork on your own. Don't donate your car, get your little tax break and then say 'Well, you know, they didn't say in the commercial what they were going to do with my money...' If you drive your clunker over to them, ask specific questions and then get vague or misleading answers, then you've got a case. I didn't see that in the report nor were there any suggestions that they misled people. When contributing to charities the only time I go by a simple suggestion is when I donate here to other poster's charities. Even then we have that website that that certifies them. Except in Stevie Jeets case of course... John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm suspicious of any charity with the resources to advertise as much as they do. Good point, and I probably agree with that, but it ain't illegal and/or unethical to advertise.
  14. So apparently it's a Jewish organization....surprising but whatever. I didn't see anything in the report to suggest it was criminal, corrupt or unethical. What am I missing? People feel conned because they don't advertise as 'Jewish Kars For Kids'? Is that the gist?
  15. Unfortunately Wolfie, I disagree. As disappointed as we will all be, we'll continue to root for them. They won't lose any fans. This organization survived the Seaver trade, they'll survive the Reyes trade should it happen. Life will go on, Reyes will ultimately come back and haunt us as he rains triples around Citi as a visitor. It will suck hard but we will still root for the laundry. Alas.
  16. I don't know about changing channels and not tuning back. We're all kind of a captive audience during games aren't we? No choice but to tough it out.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: 1-877-CARS4KIDS back and relentless. The one thing I've learned - and so should have you - is that it's 'Cars with a 'K'.
  18. I think they're just being cautious with Ike, it wasn't his knee at all. Very obvious ankle roll.
  19. No Keith and Gary. Watch the replay again dummies, Ike rolled his left ankle right when they collided. I saw it twice and you knuckleheads are still speculation' about his knee.
  20. 'Baseball Like It Shouldn't Oughta Be...' 'The Magic Is In Prison in Butner, North Carolina!' 'You Gotta Be Here, Because If You Aren't, The Place Will Be Empty. No, Really, Nobody's Coming To These Games, So You Really Do Gotta Be Here!'
  21. Post too. Front and back
  22. Rockin' Doc wrote: I just have a bad feeling that the Mets are going to botch this by either trading Reyes to a contender before the deadline or letting him get to free agency and then losing him. No doubt in my mind that one of these is going to happen and I'm sick over it.
  23. Your 'sources'. You crack me up you crazy old Mick, you.
  24. Chris Young to the 15 day DL. I like this guy and everything and he's good when he pitches but man, maybe he should just pack it in. Guy can't stay on the field.
