  1. Reds helped him out by swinging at a lot of first pitches. OE: that's what Ceetar said.
  2. As social animals we seek out like-minded and like-experienced individuals to assemble and trade ideas with. One of the many fascinating things about me that add to who and what I am is the fact that I'm a suburban rail commuter. As such, I like to see and hear and read about others like me. With this in mind I read a blog called 'trainjotting.com'. Below is a link to the most recent entry that may appeal to some here: Flushing The Day Away
  3. How about if we don't split hairs?
  4. Ceetar wrote: soupcan wrote: Awesome. Jose misses 10 games and he's STILL gonna catch him! think he's missed 15 so far this year. and the entire National League couldn't make up the difference. Well, what I meant was that he misses 10 games (when he went on the DL), let Johnson pass him and now he comes right back at him. But, yeah.
  5. Awesome. Jose misses 10 games and he's STILL gonna catch him!
  6. Less than 10%. Giants or Phillies.
  7. Dear Lance Blankenship Fan, Upon reading that post, it seems that the poster was thanking you for your explanation and was laughing about your comment to ignore the factor. I did not detect any malice or sarcasm, nor do I think any was intended. Sincerely, Abby Later
  8. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Whatever happens, I give you my personal guarantee that Beltran won't be the marginal difference that makes the Phillies a better team than the Mets. This is what I'm thinking. Centerfield wrote: I want him to "accidentally" back his car into Shane Victorino's ridiculously pimped out BMW...causing him over $15k in damage, most of it relating to Shane's custom-made hood ornament. Just did a Google search looking for said same hood ornament. No luck. Is it real (Please! Please!) or just another awesome figment of CF's imagination?
  9. TransMonk wrote: Carlos to the Phillies would be pretty hard to swallow. Why? He'd only be there until the end of the year. It's not like we're fighting them for a playoff spot and they ain't resigning him. He's going AL.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: ...because, dammit, he zings Republicans, but he's insufferrable. Ain't that the truth.
  11. When I see 'Cole Hamels' I always think of 'whole camels'. Don't know why, but I do and it makes me snicker.
  12. Taking into account Boras' history as a knowledgable, wiley agent, they figured he find a way to get that 10 team list submitted and accepted. Well done on Sandy's team's part on recognizing this aspect of the deal and getting it done. What a switch from the previous administration.
  13. I thought that was David Cone for a second.
  14. Ceetar wrote: more likely the extremely faulty wine fridge that only keeps temp in one section and needs to be WD40d every other month at least. I'll let you decide which player the wine fridge is. Well now you're just changing your statement. A faulty wine fridge is certainly not energy efficient and therefore your point is moot. Buying it would not be a good financial decision.
  15. Why would you blame the brown-out on the energy efficient fridge? It's much more likely to be your wife's blow dryer.
  16. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I believe that the Mets agreed not to offer Beltran arbitration at the end of his current contract, thus making it impossible for the Mets to receive compensatory draft picks should Beltran file for free agency and sign with another team. Ah ha! Well then - trade away Mr. Alderson, trade away!
  17. This Beltran thing sort of puzzles me. Why trade him? Will whatever they get back be that much better than the draft pick they'll get for compensation? Is a team really going to give up something substantial for him for only half a season? OE: Vic are you saying the Mets won't get draft picks if they don't sign him?
  18. Vic Sage wrote: If we can get better players later, then i'm happy to wait, and i'm glad "fan expectation" isn't the criteria being used for the deal. And replacing K-Rod with a group effort of Izzy/Parnell/Beato isn't quite the same as "writing the season off", now is it? Of course, you can sing that song once they deal Beltran (which they will do any day now), and i for one have no problem with them writing off a .500 team to set themselves up for the future. That would, at least, indicate a plan for the future... which would be a wonderful change of pace for this franchise. And I for two have no problem with this either. Especially if it means I get 5-7 more years of number 7. Also - before the emergence of Paplebon in Boston, didn't Bill James do some sort of analysis and conclude that 'closer by committee' was equally successful to an actual closer? I do recall that the Red Sox tried it with poor results but I'd be curious to see how that strategy plays out with the Mets knowing that their is some statistcal back-up for it.
  19. Doesn't matter to me. Give 'em all a shot and see who sticks.
  20. metsmarathon wrote: we had no leverage. plus, we just got $17.5M for next year. that seems like plenty. Agreed. The biggest thing to me is that with Frankie gone and Beltran coming off the books, there is plenty o' do-re-mi to sign a really good shortstop. No excuses now.
  21. Wow. Baseball actually did something that makes sense....until they decide NOT to use it at the AL park next year of course.
  22. Wait a second...what did I miss? The game is at an NL park. Notwithstanding the fact that the All-Star Game is the ONLY place where the DH actually makes sense, since when did they stop alternating it's use in the ASG? Hasn't it been AL Park=DH, NL Park=Real Baseball for like...forever?
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yes, tells us more about the boobs you saw. That was pretty funny actually. We had just gotten to the hotel after driving from San Diego and we were hungry and looking for something to eat. My dad, son and I went down to the lobby and out to the pool thinking there'd be a cafe or something out there. We see the pool and beyond it what looks like a seating area where they could possibly be serving food. My son starts walking to the pool to go to that area. He's walking ahead of my dad and me and I suppose he's focused on where he's going rather than what's directly in front of him because my dad and I saw her first. Sort of a Kate Moss type chick, sitting up, facing us and reading a book that she had her on her lap so it was really a great view. My dad and I saw her at about the exact same time but the boy was a beat or so behind us in noticing her. Finally he's about 10' from her and he looks up. I saw him visibly react while trying desperately not to. I was dying! He couldn't change direction or stop because then it would have been obvious, so he had to keep going and walk right past her. Finally he sees that where we are headed is in fact not a place to eat so he has to turn around and go back past her again! As he's walking back to us his face is a scarlet red and my dad and I are trying our damndest to stifle the laughter. As to the actual boobage - young - 20-ish, b or c's, really tan. Gorgeous gal. We saw her later getting into a cab out front of the hotel. Skin tight leather pants, loose flimsy blouse, no bra. Yowzers.
  24. bmfc1 wrote: Great report. I'm glad you got two wins. I went to a game in SF and then in LA last season and saw Takahashi lose twice, the LA game being a shutout. Obviously, not as much fun. Thanks - yeah we saw the 2HR Bay game in LA which was fun. Ceetar wrote: yeah, great place. only bad thing I'd say is the massive amount of homeless. Yup. My son noticed it and said almost exactly that.
  25. Great idea -San Fran was our favorite part of the trip. Great town, nice people, good food, good park, lots of other toursity things to do. Weather was cooler than I'd expected - think mid-to-late September when packing - and I was told that is their usual summer weather.
