  1. And the white guy gets the doughnut.Jason Bay - 0 homeruns.Canada is weeping.
  2. If you were listening to the teacher dear you would know that pitching is not necessarily New's biggest problem. If New is going to get a tutor I'd prefer it to be a Math tutor. You know 2 out 3, 4 balls, sometimes New thinks thre's 2 of something when there's only one?You never listen. New is just like you.
  3. New Mets obviously needs a tutor.
  4. Good points you make.True about Reed - He never came across as wimpy or unsure. He should've been older and you're right about the stubble. With Sue - Jessica Alba just didn't do it for me. Too sexy and too young. I always thought of Sue as a more 'motherly' type.I thought Chiklis nailed The Thing and I didn't mind the absence of the brow on the costume - it made him look more like the original incarnation of the characterI would've like to see Johnny with blonde hair and now that you mention it a 'be careful Johnny' would've been cool. The Baxter Building didn't bother me - I went in knowing I'd have to make allowances. That seemed a small one to make - the lab in the Baxter Building looked good though didn't you think?I liked Doom. Once he was in full costume he looked great and by doing what they did to him in the end it does set it up for the Latverian backstory if there is a sequal. And if there is a sequal I'd like to see the Silver Surfer flying around in there somewhere.
  5. We had a sandlot pickup game on Sunday morning. There were about 10 kids so we did a dads (and mom) against the kids.We let the boys pitch but since the lot of them have never pitched (they are 8 and they'll all pitch, catch and stea bases next season) I was the catcher.I am bruised something awful today. While batting against these imps they twice plunked me, while catching the little freaks I two balls off my ankles.Still and all a fun time.
  6. I took my two boys to see it this afternoon and I really liked it. I gave it a 7.I liked the new twist on the origin. I liked Michael Chiklis (The Thing), Julian McMahon (Dr. Doom) and got a chuckle out of Stan Lee's cameo as the Baxter Building's ear-wiggling mailman Willie Lumpkin.I liked the Torch character and was pleased to see that the antagonistic relationship between Johnny and Ben was incorporated into the film. The NYTimes review said the special effects were cheesy but I disagree. I thought they were fine. No idea how they could have been better.I did not care for Ioan Groffud (or however his name is spelled). I thought he was pretty wooden, ironically, as Mr. Fantastic and Jessica Alba was merely passable as Sue StormI too was going in expecting to be disappointed and left smiling. Curious to see Vic Sage's review.
  7. Tee-hee-hee.
  8. So glad to hear that, especially from an FF devotee. On the train home this evening I read the NYTimes review and they absolutely killed it.I'll see it Sunday afternoon.
  9. Loaded question there MFS.
  10. I think Stargell used to give them out as 'rewards' for good plays and/or good games. Like college football helmets with stickers.
  11. I dug it.It didn't make me feel like a total comic book geek. It was like almost a real movie.
  12. The history of the name is a great little tidbit.Awesome job.
  13. No memory of that whatsoever. This is the closest I can get to that...
  14. Don't bust Yancy for that - there are a lot of us who have been waiting a looong ime for the FF flick.I just hope that's its not as godawfully bad as the previews make it look.Of course it will be.
  15. Alright enough.I had a brain cramp.
  16. Oh yeah - them too.
  17. Yancy Street Gang wrote:The optimism was delusional at that point, though, but I think it was there. I remember in 1983 I began to feel a different kind of optimism, one that acutally felt grounded in reality.'83 for me too - prolly cause that's when Terrell and Darling showed up and you could sense good things starting to happen.

  19. Willets Point wrote:Perhaps. Or perhaps they're recognizing that Hernandez had a 2 1/2 month winning streak on the line and wanted to show him some appreciation.Nope. They're dumb.
  20. ]The clapping for dumb plays happens in lots of places too.Dude - a standing O from the whole park last night as Livan left the mound?Pitched to one batter in the 8th, gave up 8 hits, 5 runs (all earned), 3 walks, 4 Ks and a HR.That deserves an ovation? These chuckleheads are clueless.
  21. How do I go about getting a blow?It's been a while.
  22. ScarletKnight41 wrote:The grumbling has come from me, I'm sure. And they can be as stupid as they want - it's their business. It's the trash talk and the sudden MFYesque attitude of entitlement that pissed me off.Don't waste your time fretting 'bout it.That team is NOT built to last. The fans will lose their cocksure attitude right quick once their hometown heros do the dog days dive.
  23. You mean besides the fact that it was a MOVIE?
