  1. Who are these Yankees you speak of? All I know is the Phillies were playing and I wanted them to lose so my team could take first place.
  2. Sheffield's hard grounder bounces off Zimmerman so they can't turn two to end the inning. Then. Murphy's weak chopper gets by Johnson because he was holding the runner. 3-0 Mets.

  4. Carmela Soprano threw out the first pitch today. I only caught the end of her interview but it sounded like she was saying "It was all Mets growing up in my house. Mets, Mets, Mets."
  5. I'm dreaming of a lineup with Wright, a healthy Reyes, Beltran and Delgado, and Sheffield hitting like he is now.

The Damon one was indeed ridiculous... but the Jeter one (just making the seats) and even the Swisher one (a well-struck but lazy fly that ended up carrying a shit-ton and landing past the first seating area in right-center) weren't far behind. I'm thinking Churchy and Muffy-- hell, Cora, even-- should start aiming at the Subway sign during Phils BP... this weekend could make for some nice number inflation. Frayed Knot Jun 10 2009 06:27 AM Newsday: Fences are shorter http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-spstad0611,0,3247160.story excerpts: The barrage of home runs at new Yankee Stadium is being caused by shorter dimensions, not weather, according to AccuWeather.com. The meteorology company said Tuesday that 20 of the 105 home runs hit at the $1.5 billion ballpark would not have gone out of the old Yankee Stadium. "For someone attending a game at the new Yankee Stadium or watching on TV, the size of the playing field appears to be the same," AccuWeather meteorologist Tim Buckley said in a statement Tuesday. {I guess he's got a reason to believe} "The dimensions at select corners of the field are identical -- and the posted numbers on the walls reflect that. However, detailed schematics of the park reveal some nuances that have significant implications." AccuWeather agreed with the conclusions of Greg Rybarczyk of hittrackeronline.com, who said in April that right field in the new ballpark was shorter. The Yankee insist that the dimensions are exactly the same. "The wall structure is slightly different than the old park," AccuWeather said. "The main difference involves curvature. The gentle curve from right field to center field seen in original Yankee Stadium has largely been eliminated at the new stadium ... due in large part to the presence of a manual scoreboard embedded within the wall. Losing this curvature has resulted in a right field that is shorter by four-to-five feet on average, but up to nine feet in spots. "Not only is the famed short porch even shorter in the new stadium, but the walls themselves are not as tall. In the old ballpark, the walls in right field stood at a height of approximately 10 feet. At this height, it was difficult for outfielders to scale the wall and attempt to rob a home run over the fence. Fast forward to 2009, and the outfielders have been scaling the wall without any trouble. The result? The new outfield fences only rise to a height of eight feet, adding to the ease hitting a home run to right." The new Yankee Stadium is on pace for 293 homers, 10 shy of the major league record hit at Denver's Coors Field in 1999 and an 83 percent increase from the 160 hit at original Yankee Stadium, last year. Frayed Knot Jun 18 2009 08:15 PM Today's (night's) 3-0 MFY loss to the Nats was, I believe, the first no-homer game in YSIII this season. seawolf17 Jun 18 2009 08:37 PM The MFYs had a little case of Metsflu tonight, getting shut out by a kid fresh off a high school ballfield somewhere. (A guy against whom, of course, the Mets bucked convention and beat recently.)
  7. ="Frayed Knot":uay8wvqu]Teixeira today with a broken bat. Not a cracked bat mind you but one that shattered in his hands leaving him only with a small piece of the handle while the barrel and splinters flew all over the infield. The ball went about 7 rows deep into LF.[/quote:uay8wvqu] Listening to sports talk on a random station in DC they played the radio call of this play. The hosts ripped up Sterling both for the cartoonish-style call and for not mentioning that Texeira broke his bat. It seems that they know what an idiot that guy is around the country. 10. 5/23 in Boston: 2-run homer with two out in the top of the ninth by Santos to take the lead (after an umpire review). Bottom of the ninth: Wright saves a double with a diving stop, Castillo saves his errant throw to get an out at second, after a line drive out to Pagan, Ramon Martinez(!) makes a diving stop in the hole to close it out.

  12. I can't do another 2:00 AM bedtime. Good night all.
  13. Maine at 99 pitches.
  14. Not Church's fault.
  15. How many at-bats until Ramon Martinez gets his first hit? I say 25 or being sent back down to AAA, whichever comes first.
  16. You're gorgeous.
  17. metirish wrote: I can lip read and coming of the mound he was uttering...." that's the real deal right there , yes sir , I'm the real deal"..... Wait a minute, you're kidding right?
  18. I'll defend him. The last time he went face first into a teammate he got knocked unconscious. I've never seen a guy get called out for missing third either, perhaps he was making a point about the ump.
  19. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Nice job, Johhnie! They probably gave Santos nothing to hit to get to Maine, and he sticks it to them! Seriously. They pitched around TWO batters. Eventually a pitcher is going to get a hit. Grab your balls and try to get the hitters out.
  20. Reyes swinging at pitches in the dirt like it's 2005. To be fair those looked like some nasty breaking balls.

  22. Going into the top of the ninth with a 5-2 lead, the Indians bring in Kerry Wood. After a leadoff groundout, the Royals have gone homer, homer, walk, triple. Tie game, winning run on third with one out. And as I type KC hits a sac fly to win. I like the Met bullpen. My question is, at what point do you remove a closer? Do the back-to-back home runs not show you that he doesn't have it today?
  23. Nah it's notyou. Yesterday was awful for me too...probably partly because I was up all night.
  24. What the record for consecutive innings with a two-base error?
  25. This is where you need to calm down AshieLarry.
