  1. ]Six languages are spoken, or could be spoken, in the clubhouse: English, Spanish, Spanglish, Swedish, German, and Japanese Spanglish, huh?
  2. holychicken wrote: I don't see how anyone could REALLY have been a naysayer about this tournement. There WERE lots OF good REASONINGS in OTHER threads. If YOU want TO really SEE them, YOU should DO a LITTLE research.
  3. mlbaseballtalk wrote: ="KC"]The Mets have people plant those stories on internet boards and feed 'em to the newspapers to distract attention away from the real powers that be who are making poor decision after another. If some of you would pull your god damn lips off the kool-aid baba nipple for five seconds you'd wake up and see what's really going down right under your collective noses. I love Michael Kay's response whenever someone tries to call Leiter out on this stuff. Basically Kay's response is "You can't win, because people will always say 'well he's obviously lying' " Kay actually makes a very good point here. "Well, he's obviously lying" is a response I see a lot, even on this board.

  5. ]It has long been speculated he would not be the Opening Day starter April 3 against Washington. "It is not an issue," Martinez said. "We have a lot of pitchers, so why rush it?" Bad Pedro.
  6. Did ARod really play third for Team USA? So letting Jeter keep short extends for every baseball team in the entire world? I hope we never have to play a from another world team for the rights to our planet.
  7. I'd like that too, though I wouldn't use W/L to judge him.
  8. You're missing the most salient point in that coherent, intelligent post, Vic: MATSUI SUCKS!!!!!!!!
  9. ]I'm sure. It was the 2003 or maybe 2002 playoffs when he served as a guest analyst. You pretty much remembered the gist of what he said; which was obviously was said in the context of a particular situation and wasn't the answer to the question: Describe your entire philosophy of pitching. Haha yup. I was thinking '04.
  10. Probably lost in the old CPF?
  11. ]Leiter justified going to a full count on every batter, arguing that "going after" batters, pitching aggressively, challenging them, throwing strikes is not good baseball. I think I remember what you're talking about: What I'm remembering is he said something like: "Now that he's got him 0-2, he has 3 pitches to try to fool him with before he has to throw another strike."
  12. *sigh* Edit: Wow. Wally is scary looking in that picture.
  13. ]In the Mets' case, their policies are more exteme than other clubs in CYA-ness I love how shaky theories have somehow become facts over the years.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: Consider yourself what you will. Ms. Gershon is probably no older than Axl Rose. Axl turns 44 this year, too. In his prime he was just as pretty as Ms. Gershon. Edit: I had corrected metirish's listing of Drea de Matteo as "Andrea from the Sopranos" here.
  15. Johnny Dickshot wrote: When did it become clear that Matsui was the "inferior" of the 3 candidates? Well, Keppinger and Hernandez BOTH have hit over .300 in AAA. And Keppinger is hitting over .300 this spring.
  16. Very well done. You should email that to him.
  17. soupcan wrote: I'd love to see just one manager go against tradition and throw a non-conforming batting order out on the field. According to the article, there's not much point to this.
  18. 12th may be a bit high, but the assertions I'm talking about are ]12th best pitcher would even be questionable, let alone 12th best player... Al's in the top 12 for pitchers, and 12th player is not nearly as ridiculous as implied here.
  19. ....and with that, vtmet's assertion is blown to pieces.
  20. Yancy Street Gang wrote: She'll be 44 in June, which makes her almost a year older than me. And she's still mighty fine. There was probably a time when I thought of 44 as too old. (Like maybe when I was 16.) But those days are long gone. Elster, would Jessica Alba be a better example for you? She still looks good to me, too. I just wanted to take a totally unjustified shot at Steely Dan's impending defeat of GNR. Edit: I consider myself a young punk, but my teenage days are long since past.
  21. Elderly might be pushing it a bit.
  22. I like to fanatasize about Gina Gershon while listening to my Steely Dan records.
  23. vtmet wrote: speaking of old dried up lefties that should have been put out to pasture years ago...has Johnnie Tomato Franco officially called it quits yet? What is the point of calling him "Tomato"? Are you out to coin new nicknames, too?
  24. Willets Point wrote: First memory of Al is from the 1997 World Series where I was convinced he looked like this guy I worked with named Ron. January When I first skimmed through I thought this said "this guy I worked with named Ron Jeremy".
  25. All the love for David Wright makes me nervous. He was also on the cover of ESPN the Magazine a couple weeks back. I know it's the "[u:ea45c8cf5f]SI[/u:ea45c8cf5f] Cover Jinx", but I'm still a little afraid. I need to grow up.
