  1. I've been ready since I woke up this morning. No game tomorrow too. Sucks.
  2. Beat you to it. New day, new thread.
  3. DocTee wrote: ]HA! speaking of which, we haven't heard from Valdius since he was reamed by you and Sal Q... Hmmmm... A better explanation is that Val nearly flunked out of college after spending his first semester here rather than in class! Not saying this is what happened, just speculatin'. Or maybe he found a girl.
  4. That lineup has to wake up at some point.
  5. Kaz Matsui 2005: 1st, 2 games. 2nd, 41 games. 8th, 20 games. 9th, 1 game. Miguel Cairo 2005: 2nd, 55 games. 7th, 1 game. 8th, 25 games. Looks like Bret is basically right. Cairo and Matsui each were in the 1 or 2 slot for a little over 2/3 of their starts. If all of the starts in the eighth slot were at the end of the season, that would show Willie learned as the year went on. I don't know if that's the case; I remember Cameron starting in the two spot in the lineup for some time after he came back from his injury early in the season.
  6. ]because he is big news now in New York, as big as a Yankee. ...

I'm not saying it's anything I'm prepared to prove, Elster (you are Elster, aren;t you, and not MFS62? Just checking). But I'm pointing out indications of evidence I find consistent with my opinions. I do think that Piazza's mopiness had an ill effect on team chemistry. I do think that a passive catcher who courts popularity with the pitching staff at the expense of results creates problems that can;t definitively be pinned to him. But the inconvenient fact that I have no proof for thinking some of the things I think doesn't mean they aren't true, just that they're unproven. What I am sure about is that the Mets from 2001 through 2005 were a huge disappointment. I'm prepared to back that up with numbers (win/payroll proportion numbers, specifically.) I think that those numbers are someone's responsibility. You don't? That's cool.[/ It also doesn't mean they are true. I'm sure you can find just as much evidence that is inconsistent with your opinions. Others have presented such information on this very site, more times than can possibly be counted. But I accept your need to hold someone responsible.

Neither would have Reyes, Wright, Floyd, Beltran himself, Woodward, Glavine, Leiter, or 99% of the guys who played for the Mets over the last few years. I may be going out on my own limb of the Piazza-hater's loony-tree here, but I think kernan was implying that --as long as Piazza was the Mets' nominal leader--no one on the team during the Piazza years felt comfortable taking a leadership role. IOW, it was just that Mike wasn't a leader, it's that he was a bad leader who insisted on fulfilling that role but didn't actually lead. Now that he's gone, leadership is possible in a way that it would have created problems before. So now Piazza is responsible for keeping other players from reaching their leadership potential? The list of atrocities grows.
  10. I'll take whichever has the higher OBP second...I'm not sure who that is. One rainout already. Key for the all-important tiebreaker in the Met Predictions.
  11. Hernandez also will not be on Ordonez's level unless he starts hitting better.
  12. Flip-flop him with Castro maybe, but I don't see where else to bat him.
  13. 14. 3, 4, and 10 are the most likely actual reasons.

  16. I do not remember said reaming.
  17. What's the MLB single season record? I was going to start a thread to track it, but figured I'd get yelled at for starting too early.
  18. Nymr83 wrote: another lame "yankees suck" chant. save it for the interleague games please. They explained it on the radio. Some dude was waving a Yankee cap around in fun to incite the crowd, so they chanted "Yankees suck" at him. These are the only circumstances under which it is okay to chant Yankees suck at a game when the Yankees aren't playing.
  19. So many to choose from. This is where Schaefer comes in handy.

  21. I don't think Doc had a slider at all.
  22. Here's a partial list of closing numbers from 2005. Click the links to get some samples, places to buy the music or the bands' Web sites: Miguel Batista (Blue Jays) - Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" Francisco Cordero (Rangers) - Bill Conti's "Gonna Fly Now" (Theme from Rocky) Keith Foulke (Red Sox) - Danzig's "Mother" and Hank Williams Jr.'s "A Country Boy Can Survive" Brian Fuentes (Rockies) - Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" Eric Gagne (Dodgers) - Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" Eddie Guardado (Mariners) - AC/DC's "Hell's Bells" Trevor Hoffman (Padres) - AC/DC's "Hell's Bells" Jason Isringhausen (Cardinals) - Sevendust's "Black" Todd Jones (Marlins) - Building 429's "Glory Defined" Brad Lidge (Astros) - Drowning Pool's "The Game" Joe Nathan (Twins) - Big Head Todd's "Boom Boom" B.J. Ryan (Orioles) - Slipknot's "Duality" Huston Street (A's) - Nas' "Hate Me Now" (feat. Puff Daddy) Derrick Turnbow (Brewers) - Metallica's "Fuel" Bob Wickman (Indians) - Velvet Revolver's "Slither"
  23. The seats are aligned that way b/c Shea was originally designed as a multi-purpose building. You're right FK. Anyone who sits first row on the field in the outfield, which should be a good seat, will have a neck injury by the third inning.
