  1. Edgy, did you know that from memory? Since you aren't sure who has the record now you probably didn't find a helpful site.
  2. Edgy DC wrote: I'm not sure what that means. But if I read you correctly, Cal Ripken broke Elster's record, and Ordoñez reclaimed it for the Mets. Somebody like Vizquel took it away again, I think. Oh. I thought I had remembered Ordonez breaking Elster's mark when it was still Elster's. Musta been thinking of the NL record.
  3. Did anyone figure out who he tied? It must be another current or fairly recently retired player. Bonds didn't spend time in the AL, ditto for Raffy and Canseco in the NL. Sosa didn't start taking steroids until he was a Cub. McGwire?
  4. SteveJRogers wrote: Not sure if the practice still holds as card set size has really shrunk in recent years, but Upper Deck would always make sure card # 666 had a Yankee on it! HAHAHA That's great. I should've known that.

In full sentence-terms, Elster88 is referring to the then-record 88-game errorless streak Kevin Elster accomplished as a shortstop, which gives him his name. Has anyone wedged their way between Elster and Ordonez? I have no idea even where to start looking this up.
  6. ]Now stop that. LOL. Seriously, was Mitchell good enough in the infield?

  8. In retrospect, did HoJo just not have the fielding prowress to play short every day? Or, since Knight left, was the logical choice just to put him at third and Elster at short, since putting Hojo at short would've left a hole at third? Would Kevin Mitchell have had the ability to play short every day, if he had stayed with the team? What's the proper capitalization of Hojo? I usually go with capital J.

  10. Did he miss any of the newest AL parks?

  12. I just found it in the AP report of the game. There were no more details in it.
  13. 4/1/41 = Scary Tom Seaver Day.
  14. I think this one is cool and actually do give a crap...I just didn't know where else to put it. ]Two years ago, Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 500th home run at old Busch Stadium. His first game at new Busch was pretty memorable, too. Griffey hit a go-ahead three-run homer off Jason Isringhausen in the ninth inning after tying a major league record by homering in his 43rd stadium earlier in the game, leading the Cincinnati Reds past the St. Louis Cardinals 8-7 Monday night.
  15. Stickying the threads is a good idea.
  16. Is this the baseball related 666 post you were talking about?
  17. I kind of like Funeral for a Friend. It's relaxing...and yet not.
  18. Darling talked about Elster during the telecast yesterday. Said you could see the disappointment on his face every time they got off a plane to crappy weather. Called California "God's country to play baseball" or some such. Lives in Florida right now. Hasn't seen Darling in a few years, last saw him when he lived in Vegas. Edit: I'm Tug McGraw (RIP)
  19. ="MFS62"]="Elster88"]So far I have yet to see an "overdramatic deadline deal" during Omar's tenure with the Mets. I'll reserve judgement until then. Which deals are you referring to from his Expo-days? I dunno. I got that impression from the articles about him when he joined the Mets. Memory fails me. Didn't he make a deal involving a fat righty pitcher for a bunch of kids? Do you mean the Colon deal here? That one never really bothered me because it seemed like he was doing it to try to keep baseball alive in Montreal, and they were on the fringes of a races back then. ]You have to admit, since he's been with the Mets he has made more than a few star-power acquisitions (trade or FA signing). True...but the only move that bothers me is Benson for Julio, and I don't think that one was made at all in the mindset of trying to create buzz. Have any of his star-power acquisitions bothered you? I think they smell more of trying to make the team better than trying to create buzz. In short I just think that >>>Omar will be in his glory. It will be his excuse for making an overdramatic deadline deal. He loves to do that stuff, back to his days in Montreal<<< is unfair. ___________________ But I did hate the Benson deal and I could see it really hurting us in a playoff series.
  20. I didn't get to FK's post until after I posted. Frayed Knot wrote: Covering the media's coverage is Raissman's beat so he's got every right to keep on this story, especially as it was a major topic of conversation yesterday - including nationally. I didn't realize this was his area of expertise. I guess you answered the last question in my post right above yours ("Why bring up the broadcast booths?") Frayed Knot wrote: I just didn't agree with his earlier column where he claimed - while offering little in the was of backing - that the media is bending to some sort of team pressure to lay off the young player even as several reporters from his own paper were addressing it at that moment. This is what I was saying too. Ed Coleman, if no one else, proved that the Mets are not forcing their broadcast teams to use kid gloves on the new guy.
  21. Johnny Dickshot wrote: but the core truth Milledge could benefit from veterans probably moreso than the average rookie is prolly true. No? Yeah, but the way I read it, Raissman is using it solely to say that SNY and the FAN tend to be "gooey", "gaga", and "gushing", which to me is pushing his agenda that the Mets refuse to let their broadcasters say anything bad about their team. Only Ed Coleman provided the "voice of reason". If his core message is only that Milledge could benefit from veteran leadership, why go into the three G's of gooey/gaga/gushing? Why bring up the broadcast booths at all?

Johnny Dickshot wrote: ="Elster88"]]What's more, the Mets' new network, SportsNet New York, boasts 11 million subscribers nationwide--the same number as the Yankees' highly successful YES Network. I don't know that this is necessarily a big deal. I imagine the package that people buy from their provider includes both. It's huge that the Mets' deal is so much more lucrative than the Cablevision deal it replaced. I'll rephrase...I don't think it's a big deal in terms of the question "Who is winning the battle for New York fans?"
  24. Who DH's in the AL parks this year? Lo Duca, to give his knees a rest? Valentin? If Nady is healthy by then, do they keep Milledge up and maybe let one of them DH (or Floyd, even)?
  25. ]But the team hopes to sell the naming rights for a record $15 million a year; *sigh* Come on, Met Life!
