  1. ="soupcan"]="Centerfield"]I don't know about his play-by-play, but Murcer is one of the few Yankee announcers I can stand. When he does color, he usually comes up with something interesting to say. He also, in my opinion, isn't blinded by incredible pro-Yankee bias like his partner Kay. No example really comes to mind, but if you listen enough, at some point, Kay will use a superlative to describe something Yankee, and Murcer will calmly point out just how wrong Kay is. In fact, I think I read something a while back that Murcer's frankness may lead to his time getting cut in Yankee broadcasts. We (or maybe just me) take for granted how lucky we are as Mets fans to have such a good crew doing the radio and TV. I can't stand Kay and Sterling. Maybe because they are the Yankee guys but I truly think that their shtick and hyperbole just gets in the way of the game. Similar to Healy except Healy being an ex-player at least had experience (and of course 'confidence' to draw from). These guys are really just annoying. I can't imagine listening to Susan for five minutes, let alone a game. It's like nails-on-a-chalkboard times 1,000. Sterling isn't really originally a Yankee guy though is he? For me the problem is that his vaudeville show is fine for a couple games, but then I'm just sick of it. I figure I'd just be frustrated and begging for a regular baseball broadcast within a week.
  2. I don't want to touch it because ABNS's was so good.
  3. If a Met did something like that Willie would have a stroke.
  4. I have to have a Dodger Dog before I die. Is there anything special about them besides the name and history?
  5. I can't remember who did it, but during the WBC I was complaining about Pedro's toe and someone did a hilarious A Few Good Men parody. And I can't find it. Was it seawolf?
  6. This is fairly old news, and I don't remember what parks serve them (not Shea obviously) but there is a bacon-cheesburger out there being served on two Krispy Kreme donuts instead of a bun.And I really want to try one.
  7. Soler picking up a few much-deserved beers.
  8. Only 6 more games this year will start after 9. I'm pleased.
  9. Having a slump in AAA does not mean you won't have one in the majors. In fact, it makes one more likely. I've oft heard ballplayers say that the biggest change in talent, by far, occurs in the step from AAA to the majors. Yeah keep him in while hot. But don't start him over Floyd for sure, and when he hits a slump, put Nady back in immediately. In fact, I'm still not sure I wouldn't put Nady back in if he came back today.
  10. Wigginton returning to career norms. 2006: .269 AVG, .303 OBP, .493 SLG, .796 OPS Career: .263 AVG, .321 OBP, .438 SLG, .759 OPS Shocking.
  11. Tough...almost like no one really deserves it.
  12. Milledge 2.25 Beltran 2 Wright 2 Valentin 1.25 Woodward 1 Heilman 0.5 Bradford 0.5 Wagner 0.5
  13. Thanks for the helpful info, all, but I realize that the Mets are in first and would make the playoffs if the season ended today regardless of wildcard standings. This is not new to me. You are correct now Gwreck, but I posted before the Mets won yesterday, so they were in a virtual tie. Maybe the percentage points were leaning one way or the other, but you and FK are both nitpicking and missing what I was saying. Here's what I am saying: The Mets are not, at this point, running away from the majority of the league with a great record, so the playoffs may not be as easy to qualify for as it seemed a few weeks ago.
  14. Nah. I want Floyd starting every day before Milledge, and I definitely want Floyd starting over Milledge in any potential playoff series. You never know if there's some hole in a guy's hitting ability until the league has seen him a couple of times. Timo Perez looked like an all-star his first few weeks here too. Jefferies is a good example, too, IIRC. After he hit like .900 in late 1988 didn't he struggle a bit over the next couple of years? I still think that Milledge is going to hit a lull fairly soon, and I'm hoping it doesn't happen when we need him to start during the pennant race or in a playoff series.
  15. I've got no problem with sending Milledge down until the roster expansion so he can keep playing every day. It's not like people don't get injured on this team.
  16. Really?
  17. No more stickying of active Schaefer threads?
  18. Gwreck wrote: ="Elster88"]I woulda thunk that seven Met runs in a Glavine start = rest day for the bullpen. Yeah, but not the end of the world. Wagner, Heilman and Sanchez are all fairly rested, all having had the last 2 days off. It's not the beginning of the world either.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: ="Gwreck"]Strange question: why Lastings in left? Figured they'd keep him in right even with Floyd out. Willie says that he thinks Endy's arm is a tick better. WIllie's a clown.
  20. Thanks to a 7 game win streak by the Reds, right now the Mets would not qualify for the wildcard.
  21. I woulda thunk that seven Met runs in a Glavine start = rest day for the bullpen.
  22. OoTS: Atlanta's a loser. Philadelphia's a winner.
  23. As usual, "Let's Go Mets" chants are audible.
  24. The kid is hitting and throwing seeds. .308/.321/.692//1.013
  25. LaSorda was up in the booth. I didn't know that he wouldn't let Gibson get in the on-deck circle, because with a decoy in the on-deck circle he figured the A's would pitch around Mike Davis who was up before him. 'Course, that great baseball moment never should have happened.
