Ill tell ya, if Omar is worried about public perceptions and ex-players performances making him look like a dolt, he should be concerned. Im a big Omar fan and supporter and I hope by the AllStar break im not screaming: "BRING ME THE HEAD OF OMAR MINAYA!" For now, Ill keep the faith.
  2. I found a Butch Metzger. Hes in a Met jersey, but no hat.

  4. A Boy Named Seo wrote: ..... and as good as Heilman may be, he's still a bit of an uncertainty as a starter. Well, Heilman did make that statement that he wanted in the rotation. And I liked hearing it, cuz it displayed a confidence I like to see in a pitcher. A readyness. The time is right and ripe that Heilman has an uncontested slot in the rotation. So I like that factor. But I saw good things in Benson, and wanted to see what he could do as a Met in '06. So it goes.
  5. I dunno Bret. Nothing that a Met (management of otherwise) has ever done off the field has made me nervous. Angry, disillusioned, ballistic (MM'77), and almost every other emotion I can think of ranging from good to bad, but never nervous. I save my nervousness for the close important games.
  6. I agree with all youz. This is lame as it stands now. This BETTER be part of the ........ wait for it....... New York Mets starting pitcher Al Leiter (L) gets a pat on the back from mananger Bobby Valentine after Leiter gave up a game winning single to Luis Sojo of the New York Yankees during the ninth inning of Game 5 of the World Series at Shea Stadium in New York October 27, 2000. The New York Yankees won their third consecutive World Series, winning the game 4-2 to defeat the Mets 4 games to 1 and win their 26th World Series championship overall. Photo by Ray Stubblebine
  8. I doubt we have many pictures amongst us of Bobby in his playing days as a Met, so I may as well post this along with his manager pics. This is from that same Fan Photo book as Youngblood, Edgy. Tell me Bobby dont look stoned here.

But dont you think that is a most personal thing.... And that the player should have the right to make that call? Is there any situation from the old way of business where a players considerations were overruled?
  13. Has there been any speculation as to what this stadium will be called? Surely not Shea II, or Shea, for that matter.
  14. Bret Sabermetric wrote: ="Zvon"]I am a real and true Met fan. I'm not. Well, your certainly an interesting fellow, Bret. Whatever it is you are looking for, searching for in a team and the people who run it, I hope you find it. As a fan you would be an asset to that team. Your passionate, and the best fans are. And I really enjoy your interesting and thought provoking threads. Hey, I guess that makes me a fan of yours.

    Batman Begins

I liked this alot.I gave it 8 batusi's.Good back story, good action, great supporting cast, especially Cain, Neeson and Oldman.I guess I can get used to this new Batmobile (Im a huge 66 Batman and Batmobile fan- but also a fan of the more serious portrayals of Batman)Bale as Batman was very good. Almost great. My only complaint with is that Im not used to a Batman with lispy lookin lips.
  16. I dont like the way the players dont get to choose their hat anymore. And ill admit this is juvenile and selfish and silly and has nothing to do with John Francos actual performance as a player.....if it means having another player wearing a Met hat in the hall of fame, Im all for it. lol.
  17. admit it Bret- Your a fairweather Met fan. Not that theres anything wrong with that. Many fans are fairweather fans in many ways, in all sports, these days. But see.... with me, its Mets or nothing. You have some good points about Mets managment and all, but they dont wear the uniform and play on the field. I can be in discourse as to what they do and still love the team. I can even not be thrilled about the team they field, and still love the Mets. I know what I said there doesnt exactly make sense, but to me it makes perfect sense. They are my team, thru the highs and lows and ups and downs and great times and suck azz times. I am a real and true Met fan.

    Theo's Back

This is certainly good news for Boston. I knew there was something more going on here, but we all did. Id let Ep be anything he wants and step out of his way. Wonder how this will play in the Manny dealings.

  24. ScarletKnight41 wrote: .... he is not a fan-friendly kind of person. Im sure he wasnt as accessable to the fans as some. I remember one time 3 players came up to the rail together along the 1st base line and talked with my buddys and me for at least ten minutes, well before game time. I cant remember who the third was, but two were Jon Matlack and Buzz Capra. And they were very funny and really regular guys. I was already a fan of matlacks, but this moved him up notches in my fan book and put capra on that list. I also remember Jerry Grote, during a fan picture day, being soooooo rude to a little kid (little'r than I, and I must have been around 12) who leaned around to poke his head into the dugout to say hi, that from that day on I held no respect for the man. For the Met catcher, yes, for the man, no. He shouted something like "get the hell outta here kid!" and the poor kid was just crushed. Ill never forget that.
  25. ScarletKnight41 wrote: The thing about Seaver is that, if he had wanted to be, he could have been the most beloved Met ever. But over the years we've heard enough stories from credible sources to indicate that, to put it kindly, he is not a fan-friendly kind of person. Maybe he feels fans have......taken him for granted. lol
