  3. Aww. Im gonna miss seeing him pitch. I knew he was pretty much done but I thought he'd squeeze in another season in 2006. What I remember most about Al is his intensity. And he was just as intense when he talked baseball. I saw him on Tim McCarvers talk show. Him, Tim and Jim Kaat were talking baseball. And Al was so intense, and said some very interesting things. One thing that comes to mind is he said hitters today have an unfair advantage over pitchers and hitters or yesteryear because of all the armor they are allowed to wear, specifically the arm guard. He said thats why you see batters hanging over the plate with no fear of the inside pitch. He said its unfair and gives batters a huge edge that he feels they shouldnt have. And he was so intense about it. Hope he stays involved with the game on some level.

  5. KC wrote: This game's pretty entertaining. It almost went sniffle-sniffle through six, 'cept for a bobble and then throw into dugout play that everyone will see many times on Sportscenter. I ain't glued to it, but CBS' coverage of the Road to the Final Bore is just freakin' ridiculous so this is better. I love golf. But people who think baseball is boring should watch 10 minutes of each and then tell me they still think baseball is boring. I love golf but its sooooo damn boring to watch. Cuba takes the lead 2-1

  7. Willets Point wrote: Please don't let A-Rod be the hero. Pleasepleasepleaseplease. HA. Selig went into more "depth" that i would have expected- tho he didnt say anything new. There will be an investigation in regards to more than just this book and its allegations. The talk of MLB historical records and fan sentiments was interesting. DAMN! Mexico eliminates US.
  8. Nymr83 wrote: ="Willets Point"]Mexico eliminates themselves by scoring a run. thats why this tournament is lame. i've enjoyed the quality of the play but the format is BULLSHIT double-elimination is a million times better than round-robin with lame tie-breakers. I think this game shows that you have a good point there. Selig in the booth addresses the Bonds situation. There was no way they could have him in the booth and not talk about it. That would have been rediculous.
  9. Willets Point wrote: Mexico eliminates themselves by scoring a run. Now they have a chance keep USA out of the semis. interesting stuff. Clemens looks good. I will be surprized if the Rocket dont pitch this year after seeing him throw. Great catch there off A-Rods long drive. USA ties it on a sac fly. 1-1
  10. isnt an even number of teams required?
  11. have final categorys been decided?
  12. The team... The time... The Mets. ? Is that our official slogan this year?
  13. Its karma. We are due for our first bonifide string of championships. Oh my,...I feel faint. *Z fans himself.
  14. Looking foward to Schaefer time again.
  15. ]"He didnt have good plate coverage at all. Everything is slowing down just enough where if he cant cheat (on the inside fastball), hes going to be in trouble. Well, who didnt notice this last season? And I resent the guy used the word cheat. Its more like an educated guess.
  16. Lights literally go out on Mets and Nationals The lights went out, and the Mets and Nationals called it a night. New York's spring training game against Washington was stopped in the top of the seventh inning Monday night because the stadium lights partially cut off. Three pitches into the inning, with the Mets ahead 10-4 and no outs, about half of the spotlights on the eight towers around the park's perimeter stopped working, making it tough to see. In an unusual scene, managers Willie Randolph of the Mets and Frank Robinson of the Nationals, along with Mets GM Omar Minaya, gathered behind home plate to talk with the umpires. After about a 15-minute delay, the meeting broke up, the players cleared out of the dugouts, and the PA announcer told the crowd the game would not resume because "power could not be restored in any reasonable amount of time." While not unprecedented, it's extremely rare that a baseball game ends abruptly because of a power outage. One example: A transformer exploded at Qualcomm Stadium on July 18, 2001, suspending a game between Arizona and San Diego. "I can't remember a game called because of lights," Robinson said. "It just wouldn't have been right to have those guys sitting around for 40 minutes, 50 minutes, an hour." As second-base umpire Casey Moser put it: "They said it would be a while." So it goes into the books as a victory for the Mets, whose starter, Tom Glavine, was knocked around a bit by the team he's slated to face in his first start of the regular season. Glavine gave up four runs on six hits in four innings - including consecutive homers by Marlon Byrd and Brendan Harris in the second - but didn't sound disappointed. He said he felt better than his first spring outing, when he gave up four hits but worked out of trouble in all three innings against the Indians. "I'm actually pretty happy with it, other than the results. The results weren't very good," the left-hander said. "I worked on most of the stuff I wanted to work on, and physically I was better than the last time. As far as keeping the ball down, I was a lot better than the last time."

Wow, Im getting old. *Z throws snap ~*~* (personally, I go with anything that saves typin complete or proper words. The only reason I spell cool-kool is cuz the letters are all in a bunch.)
  18. ="KC"]Strike two. Funny you should say that cause thats what I was thinkin in regards to Randolphs latest negatory "team" comment in regards to Kepp. Strike one also delt with the second base situation. I suppose saying something stupid instead of saying nothing at all, or having verbal diarrhea as opposed to tactfully sidestepping an issue without stepping on a players work or worth, dont make him a bad manager. But it sure dont help with my perceptions of him as a "team" manager. Makes you wonder if Willies trying to have some built in scapegoats should his "team" flounder. Regardless of my hopes for Matsui to come around, all indications from what I was led to believe was a competition for the spot indicates he's not the best man for the job. For Willie to not only string us along with his open competition rap, but diss Keppinger outright when it was totally unnecessary is a little distressing to me. This is twice youve made me wonder Willie. Three wonders and ..............and ..........and Im gonna start calling you Wonder Willie.
  19. So its gonna be 18 teams? Is that official?
  20. Rotblatt wrote: You're right, Zvon, but MAN is that play overrated. It is. We all have seen better catches. But its the stage on which he made that catch that magnified it to giant sized proportions. No one catch should have such impact,.......but Jeters does. And thats the way the ball bounces. Or pops up......
  21. Yancy Street Gang wrote: You can't undo the past. Hakuna Matata! All the talk of "erasing the numbers from the books" is equally silly. If you revise Bonds' home run totals, then you'd have to revise the box scores. And you'd have to take runs away from the Giants. And you'd have to change the outcome of games, and it goes on and on. If the records are tainted, then they're tainted. Cincinnati's 1919 World Championship wasn't revoked. This history is what it is, good or bad. ^^^thats it, in a nutshell. Baseballs history is what it is, for good or for bad. It happened, its past, its part of baseballs history. Its in the books. Now, baseball community can deny you things, like the Hall, like working in the game from some point on,.... but they cant take things away. His records stand - he never gets in the Hall Of Fame. You may say this is impossible given his homerun accomplishments, but its not. Not at all. The hit king of all time has been denied, and in my mind what he did was not as serious an offense, because he did not get those hits by cheating. You cant say Pete Rose's batting accomplishments are tainted. His character or reputation,.....sure. But not his accomplishments. Bonds has both working against him. His tainted accomplishments and his reputation with the media.
  22. Im not saying this is right or wrong, but Jeter will make it. He'll always be associated with the Yankees most recent run more than any other player. A talented player on the biggest stage in the game. He has produced enough individually at the plate while stressing the virtues of team play. The image of him diving into the stands without regard for personal injury and coming out bloodied with the ball will forever be etched in everyones memory and serves as his best commercial ad.("now thats how you play the game") If they went with just his numbers alone, as maybe they should, he would be a borderline case who would still have to work to make it. But they will go by his impact and by that alone, he's already a shoe-in.
  23. Rotblatt wrote: Anyway, I think they need to cut some kind of deal with Bonds to get him to bow gracefully (or whatever the Bondsian equivalent is) out of baseball. [rant] Bonds wont step down. It would be nice if he realized the jig was up, but he wont. He became obsessed. Obsessed with HRs, fame, Mac and his uncle Willies records, himself, and ultimately enhancement drugs. Nothing was gonna stand in his way. Not his age, not the rules, and certainly not the truth. The sad thing is he could have had a nice little Hall Of Fame career just going with his God given talents. Everything he has accomplished since he started pumping this shit into his system is now tainted. I have no answer as to how baseball should handle this. They cannot and will not erase records. An simple asterisk is not enough. The players union has made sure to protect players who THEY KNOW were using in the past by the wording of their agreement with MLB. Baseball has looked the other way for a long time. The San Francisco Giants managment knew what was going on and condoned it. But still there must be a distinction between Mr Bonds accomplishments and those of players that did not cheat and did not lie. For the good of everything that I hold sacred about this game, he must be held accountable for his indescretions. He does not deserve to stand tall with the likes of Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, and Hank Aaron. As far as the record books go..........? I dunno. What can be done? What if as this new century progresses physical enhancement drugs are created that are more acceptable to society? Safer to use. There are already many acceptable things available to todays athletes that were not to those of the past that aid them physically. It seems every day a new drug is being created that enhances the quality of life. This is certainly a possibility that may end up separating and closing the book on baseball records of the 20th century, truly the golden age of baseball. [/end rant]
  24. Rotblatt wrote: Anyone watch the Daily Show last night? Rob Corddry as senior steroids analyst was hilarious--it was more the timing than anything else, but I'll try to duplicate it here anyway. John: "Rob, how did your interview with Barry Bonds go?" Rob: "Well, John, it was kind of tough." John: "What happened?" Rob [crazy deadpan]: "He tore a phone book in half and tried to fuck a Coke machine" He remained unbelieveably straight-faced for the next 30 seconds of laughter and John doing his usual "What, are you serious?" face. John: "Well, I hope you're alright." Rob: "Sure, John, I'm fine, but the Coke machine--let's just say it only accepts exact change now." They don't have a clip up on Comedy Central but it was a really hilarious bit . . . That was a classic bit.:) Rob Corddry is the master of the fake news report these days since Colbert got his own gig.

It is a yawn, and no surprise to me, but this is actually a huge story and its going to have a huge impact. And SI knows it. Thats why they put all that stuff, the story, the excerpts, the quotes, the pics, the documentation, etc., all at once. Its certainly gonna make it hard for Barry to just simply go about as its business as usual. He will have to talk about this situation. This wont be brushed under the carpet as he persues the big all time HR records.
