So he did want to run that out. I found that interesting..

As a room I suppose we try and honor the tradition but if the results don't do it for you, you're not obligated to participate. Same goes for me. For a while I was more excited over a Red Sox win than a Braves loss and that was the final piece until you guys reminded me that I invented it so as to celebrate Braves loss, MFY loss and Met win. Somethings take on a life of their own, J.D.
  4. great clips. Some of these are easy , and some not so much. What was the signifigance of the Shilling/Phillies game? Was that just and extra inning win? I dont recall.... Too bad the quality is so bad, cuz Im positive that Im in that panned shot of the crowd on the field at the end of the 73 playoffs. I was one of the first on the field from the 3rd base side of the Reds dugout. I keep lookin but cant tell. I went from the stands to the baseline in between 3rd and home, then towards home (where there was a pile on), paused, and then ran straight for the mound. Then just whooped it up all over the field. Someday Ill find some clear footage of this.

I guessed that helped them nab 2nd place in the NL East. thnx for the info W.P. I thought so--cuz I went to alot a games that year in Philly and was pissed they lost so many times. I had this streak going in the early to mid 80's where whenever I went to a Met game in Philly, the Mets won. On a side note to metirish-Over here pissed means angry
  6. Yancy Street Gang wrote: The Mets had no thorns in 1986 until Mike Scott in October. You may be remembering the three-game sweep at the Vet in September of 1986. The Mets went down there needing one win to clinch the NL East, and the Phillies and their fans were very proud that they were able to deny them a clincher on their artificial turf. I was there, all 3 games. Schmidt hit a homer off Gooden that seemed like it went on a straight line from his bat to the stands in center. No hang time. One a those years the Phils beat the Mets more than any other team, or close to it. On a side note to the KTE- Tom Gordon as Phils closer, from what Ive seen of him, is no fluke. He has had rediculously nasty stuff this year. He has been flawless.

THEY are chasing US. -I like playing a good team that's playing well. It shows how good my team is and makes for an exciting game. C'mon people! LET'S GO METS! I agree. We have the rotation set up just right and the Phils have been over achieving. The Mets are up for it. If it becomes a homer fest cuzza the small park I think the Mets can outslug em. I dont want to overlook this series, but Im actually more worried about the Brew-crew coming up next. Our pitching woes will come round again. I just hope the Mets dont take the Brewers for granted. They have a good team. But first, lets knock the Phils down like a cheap set a bowling pins. (lol, I like the magic number comment Yancy-What exactly is thier magic number at this point?)
  8. excellent job cooby! I read one somewhere this past week- Tommy, Steve and 'Dro, and then pray for snow. I thought that was reaching--I like some of the ones here better. ]I suspect that they have at least one future Met. Here's a prediction: Pat Burrell will become a Met when he's 39. Burrell can swing a mean bat at times, but he may be the worst left fielder in cletes. Maybe he just feels cramped in that lil acre they call left field at the Citizens Bandbox. He plays left in Philly like he's afraid of his shadow. I dont want him a Met-the guys a bum. However, Burrell has 31 homers and 82 RBIs in 365 lifetime at-bats against the Metsies. Come to think of it, I thought Von Hayes was a bum too. Was it '86 or '88 when the Phils were a real thorn in the Mets side all season?

  11. Ill go with whatever makes the board happy. I just see a triple happiness thread and scramble for a pic to post. I never even knew what the threads were exactly all about, lol, though I did pick up clues along the way. Things change though, and the Braves may not always be our nemisis. I remember the days when the Cubs were our #1 rivals. In a pefect world the Cubs would still be in our division and the Phils would be our #1 rivals. .....in my perfect world, anyway.
  12. ="Frayed Knot"] - Dontrelle Willis isn't available and was never offered despite a newspaper report a few weeks back saying that he was at some unspecified time. Willis has me worried. I have him on both my fantasy teams and Ive had a close eye on him. You can blame the state of the Marlins only so much for his current record. He has not hit his stride yet this season, and I can only hope he does. A change might be perfect for him, but I agree with the sentiment that you dont give up a hitting prospect for him. A pitching prospect, maybe. A bunch of small parts, certainly. Willis is still young and would make a great Met pitcher, the guys a workhorse-----but not for Milledge. Same with Zito. Not worth Milledge at this time.

  15. 25. Mets Catch Break With Ball Off The Wall: Murphy, 1973 I remember this like it was yesterday. I wrote an essay on it in college-good for an A+. Wish I still had that composition.
  16. Tony Piazza? Edgar Alfonzo?
  17. I guess no one saw baseball Tonight last night. They are media hype/spinning the Milledge/Zito deal. They say the mets have to do this to hang. No official word from the Mets brass. They did a phone chat with Cliff Floyd who said NO, dont trade away Milledge. He belongs up here someday with Reyes and Wright as homegrown products. He mentioned bringing up Pelfry. Endorsed promoting from within first, for a quck fix (this was before it was official Zamby was out for good) He also said that if the Mets can get Zito w/o Milledge being lost to them, they should do it.

  19. cooby wrote: Just curious as to why you guys think this is Lima's only shot. It's not like Bannister is all better and Zambrano is gone I wouldnt mind Lima long out of the pen, but I dunno about him filling a gap in the rotation. Im not adverse to taking another look at him in that role. Bannister should be back in a week. I hear theres no chance of Heilman coming out of the pen to start. But right now, no matter how we fill it, theres a hole in the rotation.
  20. ahhh.....finally put out of my misery. Well, we took 2 out of three. I like the way we messed up the Braves rotation with the long game Friday, and if Maine didnt go laime it could have worked in our favor. But thats the way the ball bounces. Its on to Philly with a nice lil lead in the NL East.
  21. I still think it was nice to have Lima, here, for this spot, on this day. He did eat up a start at a time we needed a starter more than a win. Hey! Maybe the Braves will make 13 errors in this inning and help us out.
  22. mlbaseballtalk wrote: And since today's game fufills Yancy's "Blue Cap" requirement, its a great opportunity to cross Jose Lima off that list! That pic should fit the (blue) bill.
  23. mlbaseballtalk wrote: Right now Lima's mug shot on UMDB is just a pitching Mr. Met thats never a good sign.
