    I Give Up

MFS62 wrote: Slap! Slap! Give Up? You can't give up! Did we give up when the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor? These are the New York Mets. The Mets of You Gotta' Believe. OK, so right now they couldn't score with a passed out hooker. But they are professional baseball players. Its a slump. All teams have them. Now they're coming home. Welcome them. Love them. Root for them. After all, they are our New York Mets. And don't you ever forget it. Later

During the AS break the Braves go out and get Alex Gonzalez. All he does is walk in and he's leading the team with 17 homers. That's quite an upgrade at short. Oswalt may be a Phil before I hit send on this post. It's not specifically that we aren't getting a pitcher, it's that we are not improving the team in any way. If there is a move made, it has to be something we need to improve the team.
  5. Everyone in the running improving themselves. Everyone but us.
  6. Oy, Beltran doesn't play the ball off the wall and just like that it's 0-1. Carp on a carpsicle.
  7. You guys know me. I never say uncle. I don't give up. I try and stay positive and root for positive things to happen. But I've already written this game off. And that's pretty sad... Aw hell, I'll still root.. LETS
  8. Totally agree about da Dick. He was a lil wobbly on the ground ball following the first visit, and we sure as hell can't afford him going down for any length of time.
  9. batmagadanleadoff wrote: The first Met teams that I rooted for obsessively had the best one-two relief pitching punch in all of baseball. McGraw and Frisella were unhittable, and pitched whenever the game was on the line, irrespective of the inning. Back then, reliever usage was determined by the pitcher's ability, by the game and base/out situation, and by the identity of the opposing batters ... not by the inning number. We've regressed over the last 20 years. Because it makes eminent sense to match the reliever to the game situation, rather than to the inning. I really think for the last 15 or so years there were players, specifically hitters, who had as high an energy level in the 9th as they did on the first pitch of the game. To off set this the one inning specialist was needed more, cause what they wanted to fight it with was a fresh and rested arm for the later innings. I really, really hope those days are behind us and baseball adjusts back to when the players were not juicing. And also, with today's advances in health and stamina and whatnot, that are legal, maybe it never goes back to what it once was. But the pendulum should swing back somewhat the other way.
  10. Nice Thole. I'm always loving your scrappy at-bats but you swing at the first pitch here and hit into an inning ending DP. I really like what I see from Thole though, more than not. I like what I see behind the plate as well as his at-bats. But, for the moment, shame on you son!
  11. very interesting scene here. Jerry comes back out, to remove R.A. Dicky vehemently argues to stay in. With anyone within ear shot, it looks. But Jerry takes the hook stick out of his back pocket and Dickey is off to the showers.
  12. Aww shit. Dickey slippey. And the trainer comes out.
  13. OH WOW! Beltran ROBBED by Blake! What a catch. hat the bastage! Denied a run, or at least a close possibly miscalled play at the plate(the way things have been going).
  14. And Castillo follows with a double! Jeeze Loueeze!
  15. Reports say (and warnings said) a tornado touched down in my area today. I've lived down here a long time and I don't recall one ever actually touching down this close. Kool and scary stuff. I've never seen a funnel cloud with my naked eyes. Aw Reyes! You get on to start the inning and get picked off. Great.
  16. Classic open to the IGT LWFS. You get a belt buckle for hittin the board.
  17. And... HOT SEAT!
  18. Now that I think about it, I would have had K-Rod in for 2 before goin to Ollie. Maybe. Didn't get to see how things developed, but.... Well, water under my bridge.
  19. Holdin K-Rod back for the save Jerry? WARM UP THE HOT SEAT! I guess you had to try to get as much as possible out of Ollie. And I would have to think situations like this is why he's still here. Wouldn't wanna use Dicky today. Can't gamble K-Rod might be needed for more than 2 innings. You're not supposed to go there. K, WARM UP THE LUKE WARM SEAT!
  20. Shit. My timing is not all dat. Loney goes yardy. GAME OVEH!
