  1. Bad timing, huh? Young had time to climb that wall and order a hot dog and then make the grab. I saw him earlier too, with that one over his head. Those ones right over his head.....but that one was hit like a rocket. Zimmyips clears the wall. 1-0 Oh, Tejedas back.

Imagine being proud of the Wilpons. Contracts may be what they are. If the Mets wore those hats, there is nothing anyone could do about it. And eventually no one would give it a second thought. And separately that^

On his Met resume, there's nothing but the quiet desperation of a player on the fringes of major league baseball. Topps never bothered to put him on a card in a Met uniform. But The Man From Topps -- he loves those early San Diego duds and the candy colored stands that circle the inside of old Shea Stadium. bump Dave Roberts That's Dave Roberts, who throws left and signs left. He was Cy Young caliber in 1971 and an under the radar sleeper stealth draft pick if you ever played the 1971 Strat-O-Matic set. He had a crappy W-L record that year because the '71 Padres were one of the most offensively inept teams to come around in the last 50 years. Damn, I knew that face. I knew he was a D.R. !
  5. Tim and Ralph were a great team. I haven't really watched Tim in his post-Mets incarnation so I haven't developed the negativbe feelings about him that some have. But I wonder if even Murph could add "...and they will..." to this bunch. He might rephrase it with : " ..and they are bound to.." I have heard Tim enough over the years since he left that I believe he has become very redundant in his style. He still is a very good observer and he'll never suck. And its not that his style has changed much. It hasn't. When he first started he was new and refreshing. Now he's old and rehashing.

Wouldn't that solve the whole damn thing? I see Titleist golf hats with the Titleist logo on the front and the Mets logo on the side, Yankees, too. Here's one, even resting on a patriotic golf towel, no less. (Now you can wipe the mud off your ball with Old Glory.) They could do the same thing with agency caps if they wanted to. And they would sell. I'd buy a NYFD one in a snap. Id buy 5, four for my bros and I and one for my dad, who was a NYC fireman for 21 years. It continues to be disgraceful that the tradition has been under-minded.

I almost got drummed off the MOFo in my first year there referencing WMCA and getting tagged as a confused Yankee fan. Mets moved back to WHN in 1983, having been there from '64 to '66 and again from '72 to '74, so 'MCA era was '78-'82. Prior to that, 'MCA had the MFYs; they moved to WINS in 1978 en route to WABC (original home of the Mets, '62-'63) in 1981, where they stayed through 2001. Mets were on 'NEW from '75 to '77 -- with allowances for midweek day games on WRVR-FM in 1975 and WNYC-AM in 1976. And of course WHN became WFAN in 1987, WFAN moved to WNBC's frequency in 1988 and that's been that, save for a few spillover/conflict games on WEVD (pre-ESPN Radio) and later WBBR. In 2014, WFAN can rot in hell. That's interesting. I recall WHN and the Fan but that's about it.
  8. Very early to be trying to pass judgement but if forced I will say he don't suck.
  9. batmagadanleadoff wrote: This Toppless Met might've gotten a Mets card if The Other Man From Topps didn't go all Kindergarten color by numbers with his box of crayolas over this photo. For one season, he was one of the league's best pitchers hurling for San Diego. Koolest hat comic style airbrush ever. Off the top of my head without checking I wanna say Brent Strom. But I'm pretty sure I got the last name wrong.

  11. Saw my first cardboard car watching Romper Room. Or were they horses? I made me one that same day and drove my folks crazy. I also used to think Captain Kangeroo could see me when I was watching him on TV. Id always make sure I was properly dressed.
  12. Keith says in his wrap: "..just too much hitting by the Nats." Ha, yea.
  13. Murphy always had a positive spin. Always. Hey, these recent teams might suck but we have had a very fortunate team history in broadcasters. I can even remember a day I thought Tim McCarver was great.
  14. That Hairball homer knocked the wind out of my sails. lil bit.
  15. seawolf17 wrote: Ooh, horizontal '65s look weird. Don't know if I like. I was always like Grimm when it came to old cards, and old card remakes. Like action shots used in a year Topps didn't do that, and sideways cards when they didn't make them that year. But after being wow'd by that guys cards at Cards That Never Were I changed my mind about that kind of thing. If it looks kool, if its a good pic (or well made sideways card like I saw there-look at his 69 one) it can make for a nice looking card.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Any word with regard to Turner's injury? He's hitting like he hasn't all season and kapowie. He's down like a brick in the water. "Collective meh" --- Josh's characterization of the Citi Field fans' response to Frank Francisco's 2013 home debut. They're saying tightness but it looked to be a tad worse than that to me.

Thats was the Skanks channel my whole life! You won't even admit to yourself that they changed the call letters to WWOR sometime in the 80s. Is that the wrong 9 logo for the time (1969)? I do want to get that stuff right.
  18. I'm glad they are hearing it.
  19. Damn. That throw had to be perfect. Better than perfect.
  20. That was the best turn Ive ever seen Murphy pull. And thats big. Thats how he got hurt that time. He's now officially a 2nd baseman.
  21. BIG DP. Very nicely done. Even after the quick turn at second I was sure Span would beat it out.
  22. wtf? What r ya lookin back for lil d'? Phoooff, out by a mile.
  23. Gah. Its almost funny. Turner pulled up lame scoring there. Hammy.
  24. Big hit from little d'! 4-3
  25. Justins a ball of fire!
