The pitch was going through the batters box. All he did was turn so it hit butt meat instead of possibly breaking his hip. He didn't move to get in the way of the pitch. At least that's how I see it. Did he have the time to do anything else? It's the rule itself, how it's worded. I can't get on the umps case because he interprets the rule as he sees fit. My book=ridiculous rule.
