  1. Yikes. Sorry about the confusion. Since MLB retired 42 throughout baseball in 1997, several Mets have had the distinction of being the last player to wear 42 for a particular club. Mo heads up that list, having been the last to wear 42 for 3 different clubs. The Mets, Red Sox and Angels. Jose Lima was the last to wear 42 for the Astros and Tigers. Dennis Cook was the last Marlin to wear 42, Butch Huskey was the last Mariner, and Pedro Martinez (the left-handed one) was the last Padre to wear 42, having worn it from 1993-1994. The interaction with Pedro (45, RH) was just a dumb joke. lmfao. Had no idea this was like a quiz. Or quiz like. Or even just a quiz. I have this ability to be so dense at times. It's amazin'! I thought it was just like a neverending comic. OE: OMG! The Neverending Comic! Haven't thought about that for years! Did I ever mention The Neverending Comic Strip Project here?
  2. I am officially confused. But that's nothing new. I'm loving the captiontale.

  4. ha, thats funny. Look at the greatest scoreboard known to man and the universe! And it seems the way announcers talk has gone downhill since. Maybe it's just the old recording techniques, or the words used, or that background music.... I dunno. *I salute Ed Herlihy! And he's gotta go bring up the Yanks when there was no comparison. The media fueled that "rivalry" even then! Well, it's true, attendance wise we beat the crap out of 'em. But I don't care. I'm sure I've said it before. I don't even think about the Yankees (or the A.L. in general) unless we are playing them. My best buddy growing up was a Yanks fan and we would talk about what was going on with both together, and we'd both learn a lot about each teams players. It made me a better & more knowledgeable fan of the game. I'll never hate the Yankees. I have too much respect for my buddy as well as the teams accomplishments. Now Jeter,...that's another story. Ha! I kid. Like with Reggie's '77 series, when Jeter made that cut-off play .vs the A's I had to think: Okay, you really ARE as awesome as they say. *rant over
  5. No dollars, not anymore. I used to make about $400 per year on the UMDB through advertising, and had I not foolishly spent that money on women, booze, and beer I guess I'd probably be a billionaire by now. My dilemma is whether or not I want to take on the challenge of making the site responsive. I'm intrigued by the idea of it, but not, for the moment anyway, particularly motivated. So for now it will go on as it is. Ha! @ Tugger quote. $400 is something. That's not bad. Would help fund your Christmas shopping. Making it interactive could become a big time sink. But it would also be way kool. I have proudly lost money for almost 19 years on MBTN and turned down every marketing offer I ever got. Good thing is they have stopped trying. Same with the MFC project. Well, I don't lose $, but used to spend boo-koo time preparing stuff. And, as we all know, time is money. I won't go the advertising route. While MFC was active I'd get the offers at least twice a week. But I want the MFC blog to be dressed to impress. Ad's cheapen that effect, IMO, and also distract the viewer. And with today's attention spans a viewer would probably be in the middle of a post, see a kool ad, hit it, and not return to finish viewing my page. Ha. This user/reader continues to find both UMDB and MBTN top-notch resources and ongoing inspirations. May they endure as the standards of online Metsian excellence they've always been. Without the UMDB the MFC project would just be a picture show. It's invaluable! If I'm trying to recall old memories I need the UMDB to make sure my facts/years/games are correct. I figure only a small percentage actually read my blog, especially my long winded pages, and only zip thru looking at the cards, but some do read it all, and those folks will call me on any errors made. I actually appreciate that because then I can correct them. But I also get a tad embarrassed. And I embarrass myself enough IRL. I try to avoid doing it online. OE: Grimm:Now that I think about it I'm not sure by what you mean by "responsive" and maybe "interactive" does not apply. I'm picturing you sitting there answering questions and posting stuff by request or something......

Classic headline, of course. Too bad they could only use it once. Well, maybe more like once a year. UGH, I'm guilty of committing the sin of coveting our young guys. I don't want to move any of 'em. I'd be such a horrible, horrible, GM. Either things would have to go storybookland, or we would go nowhere.

A lot of honorable mentions as well. I thought this piece was the most enjoyable one of the year, and that's saying a lot. I would have liked to read your "personal level" list. The way I figure it, it's your subjective list, so tell us how you really feel. Why paint yourself into a corner by imposing self-constraints with rules about these kind of seasons having to be ranked over those kinds of seasons which in turn need be ranked higher than the ones over here? Anything unexpected or counter-intuitive would make for an interesting read and you, of all people, have the expertise and credibility to pull off any "crazy" take on the rankings. Much, much appreciated. "Top" vs. favorite has always been an intriguing delineation for me, dating to the Top 79 Songs of 1972 referenced in the article. This time top (constraints, rules and all), next time, perhaps, the fave raves from going on 57 years of swingin' Met hits. That'b great. And you have next years article topic already penciled in! A Yay! for the both of us.
  8. Centerfield wrote: In their minds it does. Andy Martino said “the far bigger problem is the lack of prospects in the farm system.” It deflects focus onto something else. It provides another person to blame. And there are compromised journalists happy to promote the idea and a few fans dumb enough to fall for it. Look, it’s not something I can prove but it’s a pretty big coincidence that the SNY and Daily News guys are all focusing on that. Bingo, bongo, swish! That's a big problem with these owners. Their minds. sarcasm meter off [\ ] The deflecting focus/blame part rings true to me. While on SNY they think that is part of their job description/responsibilities.

You never know when you are being funny unless someone wastes a post letting you know. *adjusts tie FB is detrimental to my surfing. After being there 15 minutes, I come here, read up, and then sit looking at the screen waiting for the page to refresh itself. For another 15 minutes.

But I've been ignoring Cleveland news lately, and I haven't been to the ballpark except for quick drivebys. I'll guess Bill Veeck for the nonplayer statue. It ain't a real driveby if you don't take shots at the statues. GTA V RULES! The Rose one is incredible. I imagine if a dozen fatsos sit on that Rose ends up taking a dirt nap.

It's actually quite impressive. Awwww. My bad but the vid won't play for me ATM. Fixed the WiFi so it runs pretty fast for simple things like text. But it still takes 10 mins to load vids and such. Although for some small lengths of time it's as fast a cable and everything loads in a few blinks. Very small lengths and rare. I haven't quite grokked how hotspots work. Or I should say I know in theory, but Comcasts sucks. Ill have real internet after the snow melts. YAY! I would REALLY like not to go thru Comcast but I don't think I have much of a choice. Not a fan of the dish.

  13. If I add Thome will that mess things up? Actually, 500 should have gotten my vote. (^See Rick James meme above)

  16. I certainly didn't mean to piss you off. You explicitly said you were disappointed that there were no rumors. And here ceets was, upset that journalists were repeating rumors. If I tweaking anybody, it was Mr. Ceetar. Your having a great day Edge. Sarcasm meter>[ /] Just kidding of course. We never REALLY get pissed at ya. Only kinda. *ducks Again...just kidding, lol Kool! I like how I made the sarcasm meter red. Kool! Remember Zvon, I know South Jersey on and off the Island! (humor intended.) I have even eaten with the Piney People and had my Mets cap removed. You are never far lol! lol Uh-oh. Now I'll be ducking everywhere I go. OE: ^Does this vid show up for u guyz? Im getting an error message.

  22. Neil is the best DW. Sorry...that makes you second best
  23. ^That supposed to be the same size as the color work. The copy I uploaded is. I can only figure google shrunk it. Bastages. I hate when they do stuff like that. Support the version uploaded or don't. I don't like when they mess with it. Also, the original version I have I was unable to to download from the website it was displayed on (The Daily News IIRC). They had disabled that function. Another thing I really hate. So I took a screenshot and that's how I got my copy. This is Buddy .vs Brock. Circa 1970. I have a folder that just says BROCK. It has pics of him doing stuff against the Mets. I only have 7 different photos in it so far (and a slew of him doing stuff .vs other teams) and I'm hoping to get more and use em as a little MFC series. This got the inner bevel treatment as well. That created the slight outline around the bodies.
  24. There ya go. Looking in the folder for this work I noticed I also made a cutout of the two players, and added a REALLY SLIGHT inner bevel to them too.
  25. I'm having trouble supporting it. I'll try again in a bit. Interesting color tip: The orange around Richie's number: I made it a separate cutout, put it back over the one, and applied a [3-D effect]> Inner Bevel OE: I was able to upload it to to my google image albums but now the page won't load. It'll work, eventually.
