  1. Having a source identified is way, way better than a sportswriter doing the "someone who is familiar with the Mets' thinking" anonymous source thing -- which happens all the time. Santana saying that this is something his friend told him. That's legit. He may be wrong, and Bartolo might be wrong. But it's different than an overheard conversation -- and worthy of discussion. gimme the first any time. if it's from someone I trust, at least I know their reputation. they're probably not making it up. crazy random speculation from random players/people is worthless. Both are a crock of shit. In the case of the first: I don't like it. I want to know the source. I'll make up my own mind as to if the source is reliable or not. I'm sick of writers hiding their sources behind "someone who is familiar with the Mets". How much vaguer can you get! I'm familiar with the Mets. I'd be a HORRIBLE source! Well, a little better from reading youz guyz. But I skew half of what I read. In the case of the second: I don't like it. That's hearsay. Before you write it give the Mets a call. Or ring up Colon. Odds are good a phone is right in your freakin' pocket. If you have to dig thru connections to get the number you need, do it. If you have no connections, get some or find a new profession. Reaching the Mets tho, should be no problem. Just take the time to do it, and do it. Many writers are in a rush to beat the other to the punch. If you wanna score a knockout, don't be taking quick unfounded jabs.
  2. Centerfield wrote: It makes me sick. Mets fans have to separate the team they love from the crooks that own it. I wish I could. I want to go out and watch em play. But I can't..... 1jOk8dk-qaU OE: Also, living way down here makes my stand a little easier. If I lived up in NYC, or even around it, I wouldn't be able to stay away, pretty sure. But instead of going to 15 or so games a season, I'd cut that down to 3 or 4.

Sounds like he is kinda throwing Dabid under the bus. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mets-coo-defends-payroll-being-top-five-in-payroll-hasnt-won-us-a-world-series/ OMG! I'm gonna end never going to a Mets game again!!! Jeffy is just too damn young! Well, I'll watch em on MLB.TV. I'll throw 'em that morsel.
  4. If the lobby at the headquarters has a blue and orange dog in it, I'll consider sticking with my original vacation plans. * Z starts picking the pieces of his plan out of his blue and orange garbage can.*
  5. I was scrolling by the chart fast and I was like, WAIT! WHAT? We got ICHIRO?!?! OE: After a few more posts here scroll by that fast. ha
  6. ^WOW! What a GREAT photo of Franco. Thank you for making that mine. OE: That's so awesome I wanna draw that and I haven't drawn anything of note for over 20 years.
  7. This was an easy one for me. I voted positive. *tears up this years vacation plans into tini tiny pieces. Thor is a good rep for the season we had, though. I guess it was a good thing I missed allAdat.
  8. Thank you sir. Normal people like my brother don't seem to have the time to watch any of the games these days. Well, maybe on his days off, if the wife lets him. This brother works a wacked shift in an A.C. casino. He's asleep by 8pm some nights. Been working there for over 20 years now though. Amazin'. And yep, I'm saying none of us are totally normal. And that's a GREAT picture. I see a fake BB card in his future.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He's wrong. Lol. And maybe as stupid as I. These charts wouldn't load for me before. I just went back to page one and skimmed thru to see if he was touched on. Also, if he's been around a while, I was not able to see the Mets play from mid season to seasons end last year. So please excuse my ignorance.
  10. Who is this Jamie Callahan guy? I was reading this chart off to my brother and he says no such person even exists.

  12. I dunno, if I was a billionaire I'd surely be having better hair days than Jeff does. I saw Trump live at a golf course where I worked the grounds crew back in the mid 1990's in Galloway township. They'd had an annual LPGA tourney there back then (maybe still do). Beautiful freakin course and VERY expensive. I could golf there free twice a week, a major reason I took the job that summer. I haven't golfed in many a moon but, by God, I love golfing. All that green grass and fresh air. I was a serious golfer, but when working I was like Bill Murray in Caddyshack. Trump: In shorts, tee, and a baseball cap (not close enough to see if it was actually for baseball-it was light blue, so probably not- I doubt very much that it said MAKE AMERICA GREAT on it). No traces of orange whatsoever. He looked like the pastiest, plump white man that I had ever seen in my life. When I saw him he was heading to the woods to retrieve his golf ball. On foot. No cart. Maybe 2 or 3 people with him. No Big entourage. If you have read about all the celebs/players/etc. that I have met over the years, and in some cases talked with or even just shaken hands with, you will agree that I am the Forrest Gump of the CPF. And I'm sure that I've posted about some because this board is all about me.
  13. Centerfield wrote: Wait, let me clarify. We are not relying on him for rotation insurance. That would be silly. Bartolo will be our primary right-handed pinch hitter. His athleticism allows him to field a variety of positions and I think we can agree that the power swing speaks for itself... LOL! Saving that image for a futurememe!
  14. Zvon wrote: Awwww. My bad but the vid won't play for me ATM. Fixed the WiFi so it runs pretty fast for simple things like text. But it still takes 10 mins to load vids and such. Although for some small lengths of time it's as fast a cable and everything loads in a few blinks. Very small lengths and rare. I haven't quite grokked how hotspots work. Or I should say I know in theory, but Comcasts sucks. I have to apologize to Comcast. I put a PW on my WiFi so folks can no longer jump on and use it, and now it runs as fast as Mookie Wilson. Comcast kept sending me a notice that too many devises were using my connection and I had no idea what they were talking about. I looked at the list and I was there, as well as 19 strangers. I'd just delete them and then the next day 19 more were back. I hate to admit to folks online how stupid I am, it makes for a bad impression, but you guyz already know me. Sorry Comcast!
  15. "And that's ball four, and P.J. Conlon looks a little rattled. That's an unusually high three walks for him already in this game and we're only in the fourth inning. And here comes Colón. Manager Mickey Callaway has sent his pitching coach out to settle down the young pitcher. There he goes. Remember, there's a clock on how long a pitching coach's trip can last this year. Bartolo has just crossed the foul line. No warning will come from the ump; the clock just buzzes and you're done. Colón is just now reaching the mound, and has just enough time to wave at Conlon before he is forced to turn around head right back to the dugout." lol. Yikes, and I agree with 99% of what u guyz say in this thread. This is an exceptional day. But it's early yet. Made by demand (
  16. Centerfield wrote: Minor league deal means not giving up a roster spot right? I guess it's a "no downside" move, and one that I'd like in a vacuum. Everyone loves Bartolo. But if the Mets spin this as "rotation insurance" or "bolstering the starting pitching" it's a big problem. I can see the spin now. "We started by saying we needed a Bartolo Colon-type. What better way to meet that need than to sign Bartolo himself." More than anything else, the starting pitching demonstrates the payroll constraints. A team serious about contending for a championship would be talking to Arrieta or Darvish if they just had the pitching performance the Mets had. Because of the return of Jake and Noah, I guess Lance Lynn or Cobb would be ok. But to add Colon or nothing falls way short. I haven't even read the rest yet but, yea, totally this^
  17. If I forget or am not around for the last leg please Email me before the final tally Ben. I don't expect any problems, but, wacky things have been going down and there's that "mind like a sieve" thing.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: We now know who will be playing in this year's Super Bowl...... And I won't hear the end of it til it's over. Two of my brothers and this entire area are going batshit. I will watch this Superbowl and root for the Eagles, tho, and enjoy it. It's great to not really care who wins. Did I just pull a Yogi-ism?
  19. Never a bad time to toss some Paul Carrack into the mix Holy schma-0-ly! I know Carrack from Squeeze and his subsequent solo work (two songs I absolutely love: Tempted/Squeeze & Button Off Of My Shirt/solo), but had no inkling that he sang How Long! Amazin'. So I wiki'd him. He also did some time with ROXY MUSIC! And Mike & The Mechanics! I attended a Roger Waters/Radio K.A.O.S. concert and had the CD, so I knew he played on the disc and toured with Waters. But all this other stuff I just read...... BANG>>>ZOOM>>>BACK TO SCHOOL! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Carrack I could swear I've posted this here before. 1UAQpXahom4
  20. Autopsy: Roy Halladay died from blunt force trauma, had morphine in system during plane crash USA Today wrote: The body of two-time Cy Young winner Roy Halladay showed evidence of morphine, an amphetamine and the sleeping medication Ambien when it was examined after his fatal plane crash off the coast of Florida in November, according to the autopsy report obtained by USA TODAY Sports on Friday. The report by the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner’s Office also showed that Halladay's blood alcohol content was .01. The antidepressant fluoxetine (Prozac) was also detected. Frayed Knot wrote: And this news comes on the same day that Tom Petty's autopsy reveals he died from an overdose of a variety of prescribed medications. Major suckage. And some of those drugs mentioned take days to work their way out of your system. I hope they added that.
  21. Impossible to despise as a Phillie when the Phillies were still the Phillies we despised at MFY levels, and that's the highest praise that can be directed toward a Phillie. I'm really surprised I have as yet to post on this thread. I must have been conflating this in my memory with a text to my brother. I'm sure I have told you all how the Phils are my #1 Mets nemesis, way above the Yankees (everyone in this division as well as the Cards, Cubs, Giants, & Dodgers are higher on my hate list than the Yanks), But like you Greg, impossible not to like and respect this guy. And be a fan of his. I was VERY bummed out when I heard the news. He inspired the Yankees to declare night games to be pre-emptively rained out at 2:00 in the afternoon based on a forecast calling for 100% chance of Halladay. LOL!
  22. The captions are so funny and I'm so busy saving the fantastic images (the high quality ones anyways) to my Met photo library that I don't even bother to guess. I want this one to go on for awhile! Here's a colorized Charlie Smith. Sorry about the watermark. Just crop out his head. When I was a kid my family didn't have a color TV until I graduated from 8th grade. And I was harping for so many years for one (since the '66 Batman TV show hit the screens) that my folks got me a small tiny color set for my bedroom . They got it for just me!!! (we got a big console/stereo one for the living room a short time later). I'll never forget when I watched my first baseball game on it. Of course it was the Mets on WOR-TV! The green was so beautifully green, the dirt so wonderfully tannish, the Mets blue so royally blue, and the interlocking NY on the Mets caps danced around like a little orange flame when they were in motion. Same when I attended my first Mets game. When I walked from the tunnel (not my very first game, my father took me to a Yankee game for a firemans outting- Godawful lighting and I got the seat behind a girder. Gah!) I was just in awe. The Skankee game was a night game, and I remember seeing Gates Brown ( I was collecting baseball cards by this age-10, I guess) from the limited view I had of the field. And Norm IforgetHisLastName (On preview: CASH!). But the Mets game at Shea was a beautiful bright vividly sunny day, and when I emerged from the dark tunnel, I could swear on a stack of bibles, that the Mets caps had a little orange flame on them! I will never forget this. Never. Anyways, not having a color TV until I was a newly fresh teen has heavily influenced my love and need for color. Not that I don't appreciate B&W photos, especially old ones circa 1920-1950. But I'll even look at them and think:"I wish that was in color".... Me thinks Big Al has influenced my writing. Don't worry, it'll pass.
  23. OMG! That is the best post ever by possibly the most honest person ever on-line! We should etch that in stone. Or in the bricks around Citi! "What are you looking at?" I go. He does the classic, "You two know each other?" I go, "Not yet." That was all. He didn't want a piece of Big Al. lololol! OE: and he wrote it HUNGOVER! Amazin'!
  24. seawolf17 wrote: Nice. Well done. Thank you sir.
  25. seawolf17 wrote: Zvon wrote: I have never stepped foot in Citi Field. Don't care if I never do. Wait, really? Not a single game since 2008? Nope. I see the Mets play in Philly. And down in Washington a few times. Both beautiful stadiums. Citi is too, no doubt from what I see. I won't give the Wilpons a cent of my $ aside from the caps and the occasional jacket, which might go to MLB and MLBPA anyway for all I know. When the Wilpons are gone, I will celebrate by getting a room in NYC and going to ten freakin games straight! It's just too expensive for me to bear with the way they run our beloved team. My brother took his family of 4 to a game at Citi and it cost him $400 all told, with food and beers and sodas and parking and gas and tolls ( he lives down here in SJ too) and alladat. Hey, I put my money where my mouth is. Look what spellcheck gives you for Wilpons. haha.
