  1. I'll be in attendance to mock Mock. section 524, row 10, seat 3. Although since I'm going alone I'll probably just roam randomly around the stadium. maybe I'll take a picture of Pelfrey from 13 different angles.

    Speed Umps

One of the things I hate about the other sports is clock management, and how un-athletic it is. No one goes to watch guys count seconds and take knees or dribble in the backfield. While there is strategy to it all, the Yanks/Sox push this to insanity, with all the throwing over, mound visits, pitching changes, stepping out, etc. It's not taking pitches that's the problem, despite how Michael Kay and John Sterling and whoever else want to spin it.
  4. Interesting correlation would be, who was the last Met born before there was Mets?

I suppose the insubordination by Jeter is going to be spun as 'heroic' because no one really likes umpires? I haven't watched enough of them in very recent years to know for sure if this is still the case. (But it was Sunday night..) But they take slow walks in to pull pitchers. Delay tactics and throw to first and what not. Catcher meetings, and Girardi (I yell at Manuel for this too) sometimes goes to his 3+ relievers in one inning thing that makes one inning take an hour. It's a shame time was actually called in this game. They should've let the pitcher throw the pitch and given a strike to Jeter.

And that's the only other time it happened for the Mets. I hope we have more than a 33% "success" rate with this crop.
  9. Last night three Mets made their major league debut (Tejada, Takahashi and Mejia) I figure it's probably been a while since three guys made their major league debut, for the Mets, and especially not on Opening Day (I'm also willing to bet it's the first time it's happened from three different countries). Nevermind the fact that Takahashi is almost as old as the other two combined. I just have no idea how to look it up. Baseball Almanac has a yearly list of NL debuts by year, but I'm not going to go to 49 pages to look that info up. Anyone want to point me in the right direction?
  10. 277/333/480 19 HR, 95 RBI I really have no idea though. I thought Francoeur sucked, and then he came in and did pretty well. While I don't want to believe a small sample size, I don't want to believe that a player can't learn and grow either. He'll get his RBIs though, hitting in this lineup.

I guess I need an example of their grievance before I start laughing hysterically at their inability to make more money. I don't know that I'm on a side. either way we lose I figure. It wouldn't surprise me though if the owners suggested to each other that maybe they don't want to give aging veterans multi-year multi-million dollar contracts.
  12. If we really want to stick it to the Yankees, which signing Torre would do, Mets roots aside, we should get Mattingly to be the manager.
  13. I heard someone tell me last year that all the minor league games are broadcast online for free, but I can't verify that right now.
  14. How awesome would it be if we're 4-0 when he returns AND he goes 4-4 with a Cycle?
  15. The gift shop is in the same place it was last year, with the entire right side (if you're facing the entrance) being the Museum. Hard to describe it's exact size, but the shop is still at least 2x as big.

Your team moves, in which case you can choose any new team, or disown the sport entirely if you want; 2. You or immediate family member plays for or is manager/general manager/owner of a team other than the one you root for, in which case you can root for the team you or they are affiliated with; 3. You move to a different city and adopt the local team as your own. This is a once-lifetime, irreversible allowance. 3 is still sketchy. Maybe if it's your first move as an 'adult', and a different league. Like moving to Anaheim and becoming an Angels fan. There is no competing rooting interest and gradually the Angels will become more relevant in your life. Even if my team moved, I don't think I'd stop rooting for them given the options these days. I just couldn't not root for Wright and Reyes for example.
  17. Some good stuff out at the park yesterday. I totally forgot about Strawberry's first pitch when I was posting my pictures. Came out of my 'loner' shell a bit so to speak and actually met a half dozen bloggers/bluecaparmy before the game. I wasn't overly concerned with Matthews play. He got to everything in enough time, and does seem to have some speed. (Try comparing him to Maybin playing yesterday instead of Beltran. works wonders!) The wind was probably an issue too, but he got there, hustled, pivoted and threw in hard every time. I hope Beltran's magnificant glides are back sooner than later though.
  18. Attempting a picture for those of you that could not be there yesterday.
