  2. It's an excellent piece, I agree. And it sure makes me excited for 2010.
  3. I'd laugh, but that sounds too similar to how Manuel chooses the lineups.
  4. G-Fafif wrote: If this were truly about matchups, they would have kept Misch, who shut out the Marlins last year, around for the first week. With Manuel it's rarely about anything he says it is, because he's a liar. My issue is with him saying it, and making that the 'official' reason, whether or not it actually is. Go ahead and pump up Niese or Maine and say they deserve it or something, make it a positive, not a negative.

Yeah this , it's been the same the last few seasons too with Pelfrey and the Marlins, shuffling him to avoid them in a key late season game is one thing(I don't like it) but doing it now is for losers. Exactly. I have a lot of faith in Pelfrey this year, we'll see how it goes, but this is pretty much exactly why I think Manuel is the worst manager I've ever seen on the Mets. He does similar stuff in game as well. How about when he pulls pitchers (and I've heard people bring this up in general) at 5.2, etc. You're teaching these guys that there is always a safety net, and you don't challenge them to go all the way, to finish things off, to battle when they're tired or struggling. Teaching them how to overcome these things that are present in just about every game is important, because any talented major league pitcher is going to have success when they're feeling good, and all their pitches are working perfectly. Rubin didn't answer it because he doesn't know what Manuel was really thinking, just what he said. But why should you punish a guy that's just working on things in games that don't count who's guarenteed a job?

  7. It's an example of managing scared, and I wish Manuel would s top trying to send veiled messages to his players through the media and instead challenge Pelfrey to step up and beat the Marlins. Show confidence in his players instead of basically criticizing them behind their backs.

  9. I've never been a following of any of the beat writer guys close enough to care anyway, but not really a fan of Rubin, especially after last year. coutinho had a very enlightening interview with Pelfrey the other day that pretty much erased any of the (small) worry I had over his Spring though. There's just so much info out there. And with Twitter and blogs I already read, and here, news will come to me if it's worth reading. So that's on them.
  10. I'm not sure we need even more coverage, even if it is just recycled people from other venues. I guess i'll find out if things from there start popping up as 'must read', but so far it's not worth reading the main stream media about the Mets since they are incapable of forming an opinion that's not heavily supported by all the other media guys, and the negativity cycle just continues.
  11. barcode yeah, not sure what knowing the seats will do.
  12. Guess she's afraid we'll know where she's sitting? Uh oh, should I have blacked out the seats In the picture I posted?
  13. Couldn't they have altered the Apple picture to reflect how it'll look this year, not how it looked last year? (the 10'10" wall?)
  14. Where did blue point come from anyway, they don't have that at Citi do they? (interested to see what crap McFadden's has though) side note..how do I get the img tags to work? or do I just not?

And yes, JCL-- cleverly hidden or not, all of the Beer Island beers are Anheiser-Busch owned/distributed(though Goose is independently produced still, methinks). I feel a tiny bit dirty. Brooklyn and Bluepoint, however, ain't. Bluepoint is in Suffolk county and Brooklyn obviously is just flat awesome. It sounds like it'll be roughly the same list as last year, just a second location so I don't have to walk down the stairs as much, unless i want the Brooklyn tap stuff. Wonder if the Frites and Blue Smoke taps will be upstairs as well, I'd imagine so.

This is your idea of an April Fool's joke, isn't it? Not criticizing. I don't like it, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Better? Lunchbucket, no, the beers are actually very very good. (nless they're changing from last year, but..) It's hard to say though. This is the list from last year (http://picasaweb.google.com/ceetar/041609_Padres#5333544484705180834) [img src=http://picasaweb.google.com/ceetar/041609_Padres#5333544484705180834]> I don't think Goose Island is anything but a local Chicago brewery, unless Busch owns them? If they replaced this awesome selection with merely crap i'll be pissed. But if you like beer, it's really an amazing selection factoring in the Brooklyn taps. (I belive Czechvar is the "real" budweiser as in beer from the city of budweis. but they may be owned by Busch now too..)
  17. Tickets look good this year. I really don't like the non-season ticket ones though. http://twitpic.com/18tlrn
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: 2-3 weeks probably isn't gonna be an IKe thingy. I'm sure the Mets like Jacobs more; he's getting so much more PT. Maybe they're just hoping he'll show them something, and I'm not sure he has. I expect the Mets do take Jacobs, thought I think they should take Catalanotto and Carter. They can be our own little CC.
  19. This sucks. I really don't want to see Jacobs. It's too early for Ike.
  20. Popper says he's going for an MRI. sounds like the doom and gloom right now is just based on how much he was limping, which is hardly scientific. Guess they'll see by the results if it's day by day and a Carter/Jacobs replacement temporarily, or long term and possibly Davis.
  21. The guy just tore around first and dove into second base. It's 100% true that he's just as likely to get injured in a minor league game. It's 100% a timing of his swing decision, and just activate him already will ya?
  22. Part of it is that managers --- and Manuel is a good example but he's hardly alone --- are so obsessed with getting a foolproof bullpen formula down that they are reluctant to resist going to the bullpen even when they don't need to. Just once, I'd like it to be: Devil on one shoulder: "Our guy made it through six and we have a three-run lead. We can go to our pen and shut them down." Angel on the other shoulder: "Fuck our pen. This guy is shutting them down and he's only thrown 81 pitches." Devil: "But we've been working so hard on getting the formula down." Angel: "This ISN'T ABOUT US!" This is one of my bigger issues with Manuel. He goes through the bullpen like he's trying to find the guy that doesn't have it today. I look at bullpens mathematically. a good bullpen has 5/7 guys that will be successful on any given day. So the more you call in, the more chance you are of finding the 2/7. If you've only got a 4/7 bullpen, you better be better at managing them.
  23. $10 says he's a Yankees fan at heart.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: No, Cora was a 13 guy who was cock-blocked by Wagner till now. I think 3 could go next to Ruben Tejada. Ahh. Dunno about Tejada. He seems more of a 1 to me. Maybe Davis takes 3? I don't imagine he'll stick with 76 or whatever he wore this year. Or the vomit-inducing answer, hire Mattingly to be the manager and wear 3 for the championship he'll bring us.
