  1. [bragging] I had Edwin Jackson starting tonight.
  2. Do the Blue Jays get to use binoculars?

Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLBTradeRumors.com wrote: The Marlins' search for relievers has led them back to Armando Benitez. They plan to sign the long-time closer and assign him to Triple A, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (via Twitter). Spencer notes that Benitez will likely be in uniform for the New Orleans Zephyrs tonight, assuming he passes his physical (Twitter link). It was apparent that the Marlins were looking for relief help, but this agreement is a definite surprise. I get a little fuzzy about other times, but Benitez has been the Marlins closer before right?
  4. Nah, means the Phillies will get a taste of their own medicine in how easy it is to come back, and walk off, at that place. Especially with a DH. And the Blue Jays will get a taste of playing in front of fans, and see that they cheer a tad more than empty seats.
  5. Takahashi not looking so good today. (Gee getting bombed in AAA, Allen getting bombed in A)
  6. holychicken wrote: The other day there was a discussion about the Phillies' recent floundering and whether or not them getting "caught" stealing signs had anything to do with it. He was dead set that it was not possible and got to the point where he was screeching about how knowing the pitch doesn't actually help the hitter and that most players don't even want to know what pitch is coming because it messes them up. It was one of those days where I rage-switched the station quickly. Agreed, whether or not there is a coincidence, it obviously helps. To think otherwise is to not understand how pitching works.

Besides that maybe he was a little slower getting up to speed this year, I've always thought Reyes was an extremely talented defensive SS. I wouldn't have balked at him having some gold glove awards.
  8. What number will Bobby wear? the normal #2? (I'm still annoyed, that forgetting he wore 2 cost me $130..grr)
  9. Edgy DC wrote: It's not like the Marlins don't have money. If they've been running on austerity budgets at times in the past, it's because they haven't had steady cashflow. Signing Hanley Ramirez to a six-year deal, and preparing to move into a new ballpark in Little Havana may signal that they're ready to act like grownups. I'll believe it when I see it. The league yelled at them just this spring. It seems likely they've been turning a profit for years. Maybe they will indeed spend going forward, but i'm skeptical.

Only your marriage isn't what it used to be, and though things are relatively sunny right now, you find yourself constantly wondering whether you're with the wrong person. Oh, totally. And now today, reading that Bobby V. has been or is going to be contacted for the Marlins job has me hand-wringing. I really don't see it. Is he really going to take a discount (no way they're paying him a premium right?) to manage a team that isn't overly concerned with winning unless it happens to fall in their lap?
  11. Did I just steal second on a pitch out? Awww..poor tigers.
  12. PeriodBAOBPSLGOPSOPS+2010.283.327.434.760104Career.286.336.434.771101 Hardly his All-Star standard, but considering the time it took to get the rust off, it's a nice place to be with a week to go in June. Here's what Mr. Whitham says: I think any "I like this team better than last year" comments are 99% derived from missing Jose Reyes.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: Fman99 wrote: This rotation is just silly. Ollie Perez, John Maine, go away. Not at all. These guys are in the rotation because other parts broke down. That can happen again and again and again. Keep all options ready. And it could flip flop and Maine and Perez could be the one's that come in step up. It's not so much that those two guys left, it's that the guys that stepped in were good. Dickey particularly, helps make this team fairly scary. And all five guys throw somewhat differently. Niese you gotta look out for the Curve, Pelfrey's got the Sink, Takahashi's Hitch, the Knuckle, Santana's Change.
  14. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: All that said... he's pitched 40-something ML innings this year. There are something like 15 NL starters with sub-3 ERAs and 5 wins... each of those guys having pitched 12-15 starts. It'll take some doing. Sure, if it was solely based on performance. If he was 23 he'd get in. But people don't respect older players finding it or knuckleballers really. People are legitimately talking about 6 start Strasburg..Dontrelle Willis made the team after something like 10 starts right?
  15. Seaver was in the building again, but I don't have any cool elevator stories involving that.
  16. btw, the Pepsi Party Patrol were wearing Wright shirts:
  17. Gwreck wrote: That's really out of line, even for here. --- I know professional athletes are often targets for these types of allegations but I don't know what to say here. If true, I'd endorse his immediate release. If false, no big deal. Incredibly frustrating to not know the truth on this one. The truth is she's a liar (witnesses disagree with the events as she told them). Why should I operate under anything but innocent until proven guilty?
  18. Today will be my 10th Mets game, 8th at Citi Field. Section 515. I'll probably have shake shack. For those of you keeping track of my escapades.
  19. so this woman just hung out afterwards and watching him play tennis?
