  1. I don't know where I read it, but from what I was lead to understand, one of the _symptoms_ of this torn capsule is pain/discomfort in the pectoral muscles. _everyone_ was correct in what they were talking about, this wasn't some underhanded sneaky "Let's not tell anyone what's going on and mislead everyone" it was simply different parts of the same thing.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: E I don't think any coach-- at least not any coach in a Mets uniform-- is going to be able to do some sort of magic Ollie whispering that "breaks through" to him. He is what he is, and a savvy GM may pick him up after we dump him, coax something good by luck or hard work, then move him for something of more stable value. A coach won't change his basic constitution; nor will a change of scenery (although that could help) or a Baseball Annie convincing him to wear garters and be patient when young girls get wooly. You can only fix what's broken. Ollie isn't broken (or at least, he wasn't until the velocity drop); he just is. I think, and thought, that Ollie was a guy that need more minding. I thought he should've had a minder when he went to Mexico for the WBC, and I suspect he'd be better off with a guy that works with him very closely, and say analyzes those practice pitches and helps him adjust. I believe a pitching coach can and should do this, and it's one of the reasons i don't like Warthen. I don't think he fits with Perez in this way, and there may be some of that in Pelfrey too. (obviously this is speculation, maybe he does/did work with these guys and they just weren't receptive, or able to make it work) I think Ollie can be very good, with the right guidence, but I doubt he'll ever break through and be great because he'll never quite take that next step on his own and really control the situation. I emphasize though for sure, as I should be laser-focusing on a project right now and i'm commenting about scarely used pitchers. Sometimes it's not even the coach themselves, but merely that they're a bad fit. Warthen and Manuel were not selected to match up with the team, they were simply next in line.

  5. metirish wrote: it's all rather sad though , Ollie had/has great stuff. I remember Barry Bonds being interviewed years ago when he was in his prime saying that Ollie was the toughest leftie for him to face, his stuff was that good. Some of the Mets said it was really hard to face the Cardinal's infielders too. They were so wild and clueless that you never really knew what/where the ball was going to do/go. i think the same thing applies here. Wait, who'd Ollie beat up/text?

  7. Such a bastard, that K-Rod. wanting to apologize and see his kids on their birthday. Lock him up and throw away the key.

  10. How about Don Mattingly?
  11. metirish wrote: One of the players that got to third base on a regular basis should be talking up Chip Hale, he was outstanding all year, not many if any fluffed chances right? , and he was aggressive IIRC. yeah, I don't think I have a problem with Chip Hale. I don't think I have a problem with Razor as a first base coach either.
  12. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2010/09/13/2010-09-13_its_warth_saving_dan.html R.A. and Pelfrey apparently want to save Dan's job. I disagree, I think he's a bad coach. I think he's bad at on the fly type adjustments, and in-game decisions as well. What's the general consensus on this? I'm kinda unsure how much help Dickey got on his Knuckler from Warthen, I saw something from Amazin' Avenue that suggested that Pelfrey's roughly the same pitcher he was the last two years, and I'm disturbed about how bad he was in the middle and how long it took to correct. Perez has regressed and a bad pen in 2008 seemed to get worse as the season went on.

At least the Frenchy HBP was on the first pitch too with no drama involved. He was in the game after PH-ing earlier and wound up with a 1B, SacFly, and then finally the game-winning HBP. Poor Mariano. Coming off working two innings the night before he just didn't have it. So after the Yanx scored 3 in the 8th to take a 6-5 lead his line read: BB, 1B, 2B, IW, Pop-up, HBP And the Rays romped earlier so the Yanx lead is down to 1/2 game. It's a shame that there is no team to challenge them. I could see them having a very lackluster September.
  15. I wonder about Boras sometimes. (I'd suspected that about the notification too. Sounds like they arrived in Washington, someone mentioned that they'd arranged a visit to Walter Reed and all were welcome to come. Pelfrey made it 'mandatory' in the sense that he thought they should all go because it was important and they're a team. Lost of course is that 27 Mets went, well more than usually go, as part of the 'team' exercise. ) Does he not realize the media over dramatizes things, that maybe the Wilpons weren't taking shots at Beltran through the media? Or does he know better as he's actually dealt with them more than us (and probably more closely than the writers)? Or is it all a bargaining ploy for Beltran (he didn't mention Perez at all..)

I think the declining velocity is directly related to the surgery actually. was hoping the extra year removed would be benificial, but sounds like not so much.

The bathrooms have dividers. they have those island-bars on either side. oh, and you can check out the scoreboard control room, which is pretty cool. Fair enough. We happened to pass by the control room just as the stretch started, and ended up stopping and staring for something like 5 minutes. Maybe if i do play hooky for Thursday's game I'll stare it for a couple of minutes instead of watching the Pirates. tempting.
