  1. On the other hand, he'll probably become a popular GM candidate should the Mets become a successful team going forward here.
  2. I have no faith in ESPN to hire someone better than those guys for Sunday Night baseball. (Kevin Millar anyone? or was that Fox? eww) I'm going to stick with my "Go to Sunday Night games on ESPN whenever possible" strategy.

  4. Edgy DC wrote: I think the Metsos are leaning toward Murphy. Quite possibly. If I had to choose right now I think I go Castillo with Murphy as the bench guy/2x a week replacement ready to slide in if Castillo isn't getting on base at a .360+ rate or something.
  5. So far Sandy's hired a Paul, and a John Paul. any managerial candidates named Paul?
  6. Geeze. There are no type a or b 2Bman there. Castillo may very well be the best option. Or how about this new japanese infielder that i saw on metsblog?

  8. Guess there will be no comeback for the fire joe morgan folk?
  9. KBurkhardtSNY Kevin Burkhardt Mets keep loading up the front office - Paul DePodesta the new VP Player Development and Amateur Scouting. Tehre's the title. duties? no idea.

Ceetar is putting his chips down on Ollie. Go, ceetar! It's got the best odds for a big pay out. I like Duda..I just think Bay-Beltran-Pagan is the way to go and that Duda doesn't fit as a 4th guy. And if we're still pretending Evans is an outfielder, I think he's out of options.
  11. 1. Who will manage? Teufel 2. Who will be replaced on the coaching staff? Everybody Everybody? Everybody. 3. Will the secondbaseman be an internal guy or will they look outside? Outside guy. Not hudson. 4. Beltran in center or right on opening day? Center 5. Will Reyes be extended or traded or will they allow him to play out his walk year. Extended in February 6. Will Oliver Perez be shed? No, he'll rebound and look alright. 7. Will this jet set scene continue, or will he be a regular in Flushing? One managerial candidate will mistakenly think he's interviewing for the Padres job. He'll be a regular in Flushing. I suspect he'll be with the team on the road more than Omar was. 8. Francisco Rodriguez? He's our closer. 9. Which of these semi-ripe guys gets a big opportunity out of camp: a) Lucas Duda? no Fernando Martinez?Only if a freak injury to a starter. so no c) Dillon Geenope (Unless Santana's due back by late April) d) Jenrry Mejiano e) Tejada?no 10. Who plays Santa?Dickey

The Japanese imports are hybrids -- veterans really, but denominated as rookies because MLB defines a rookie by the amount of MLB experience only. On a side note, I'm against incoming veteran imports like Ichiro and Hideo Nomo qualifying for the ROY award. It goes against the spirit of the award and the common-sense definition of "rookie". If it was up to me, I'd define "rookie", at least for purposes of the ROY award, based on professional rather than MLB experience. That one's a little simpler, but it's be nice if they defined MVP and Cy Young too. But it's definitely needed, some believe and some don't, so all voters are actually voting on a different set of players. That's just stupid.
  13. I don't think they should've paid him 3 years, but I'm thinking maybe they should've considered is value not just as what he could bring to the Mets, but what he can't bring to the Phillies. A guy like Takahashi fits in perfectly there, and I just hope they don't realize it. He also could end up on the Yankees, who he beat twice and probably have a slightly inflated opinion as to his worth.

  15. Ashie62 wrote: Seo beat me to the possible Loduca connection. Again, Citifield was built on an Indian burial ground. Samuels was "borrowing" money from team accounts and the restoring it. Who the hell is the team accountant? The same guy that signed up Madoff? Geezuz. What, the books are off every month? eh, It's less than Alex Cora makes anyway, probably just petty cash.
  16. metsmarathon wrote: Ashie62 wrote: Mets have picked up Reye's option for 2011 but won't talk extension now. Reye's per his agent, will not talk extension during the season. Wouldn't this suggest a Reye's trade before 2011 season ends? only if they don't intend on bringing him back for 2012. I suspect it means Alderson has a billion things to do right now. But an extension could be worked out in a slow period, or in Spring Training.
  17. Ceetar wrote: The four are constantly talking and reacting to each other. "There's too little communication in baseball," Hernandez says I've heard him say this dozens of times on the broadcast. You think guys would listen one of these days. Reyes quote last year about staying focused...well what if he was spenting the time between pitches making sure he and the other infielders were positioned correctly?

  19. I trust Coleman more. Also, he mentioned the 3 years at 4/5 as the inital offer via the first agent taht Takahashi replaced.
  20. Ed Coleman made it sound like they were a little closer than that. Mets offering 1 at 1.5 plus an option year, Hisanori asking for 2 at 2.
  21. My first thoughts upon seeing this thread: Charlie Daniels was suspended? From what? What does that have to do with... Oh, oh. Charlie Samuels. Of course. The Phillies manager. Nice. Charlie Daniels made a deal with the devil to manage the Braves or something.
  22. Centerfield wrote: According to Metsblog, the Padres GM Jed Hoyer has confirmed that Alderson has asked permission to speak to Paul DePodesta. How cool would that be if we got him? I can't believe how excited I am over this. I realize that the track records of some of these deputies aren't exactly stellar, but with the Mets resources, I feel like this team could become something credible. You hear good things about these guys, but sometimes I wonder if they're the 'chic' pick. I mean, everybody picks people they know and like, but sometimes you wonder if it wouldn't be better to look to see if somethings better than stick to the comfortable choice. btw, 3 months ago "Why would anyone want to work for Jeff Wilpon?" and Alderson basically takes a job 'below' him to be here, and Riccardi gets out of Boston as fast as he can when he's offered a shot here. He was basically sitting in a meeting with Theo Epstein and got up and left for NY. Hasn't word got out that Jeffy's a big bad wolf?
  23. From a Mets standpoint..who's watching the books? What other skimming is going on, went on, that they just don't notice? Do they just see "we spent $$$ in the clubhouse this month." and go with it? Not notice the traffic? not think that's high? I mean, $500,000 extra barely pays for Ike Davis, but it's still a nice chunk of change that shouldn't be able to just slip through cracks right? Or is he just taking those extra cents that are truncated off transactions and putting it into a bank account? You wonder how long he's been doing it too. Maybe stole $1000 or two back in Keith's days, realized no one was noticing, and gradually got greedier and greedier?
  24. My best memory of him is that he got rid of Francoeur. Also, the number 12 reminds me that I made a fool of myself on the third question of beer money, way back in like April, and it hasn't aired yet.
