  1. Young sucks. Turner is overpaying, but give me Turner over him and just resign Hairston or someone else for the OF. Turner can backup 2nd and 3rd, and 1B isn't exactly hard if they wanted to have him workout there as the emergency backup. (although I imagine they've got no problem with moving Murphy there for most backup games) sign a crappy backup SS guy or use Turner there too on Santana/Dickey days when there aren't as many hits/grounders.

You can start the thread if you like but I've been delayed in my completion of the task. going to try after lunch, but might not be until tomorrow unfortunately. i'm like 95% done. struggling on one turn of phrase that I'm working on now. post at leisure.

Monday seems like a good time. Whachasay JCL? I brewed 5 gallons of afelwein and bottled 5 gallons of a coconut brown ale..but I didn't parody a Mets song. oooops. I'll try toget it down at work tomorrow though.
  8. uhh yeah, because I'm a Mets fan, not a business student. and Megdal's seemingly crossed into 'every decision I disagree with is because of money' territory. The Mets probably didn't resign Paulino because Paulino sucks and they used what's clearly a larger subset of information than we have to come to that decision. Not because they physicaly couldn't spend the extra mllion dollars over Nickeas or whoever they end up playing there. The Wilpons/Mets have certainly earned that scrutiny, but that doesn't make it automatically true. Personally I prefer Dan Lewis' take over at Amazin' Avenue. It seems a little more honest in it's assessment of what we do not know rather than making blanket assertions about what the Wilpons are doing right now, and what the future holds.

The guy at second is Daniel Murphy.... and now for the first pitch, the radio voice of the New York Mets, Howie Rose... guy." I've enjoyed the couple of games he's called in spring training, albeit on TV. Anyone listen to him calling football? Could it be that letting him (and I assume SNY had to grant permission due to overlaps) go do Cowboy games was a way for them to 'try him out' so to speak, before perhaps offering him a role? I believe they denied a similar request for him to call games on Fox or something a couple of years ago. I'm sure that's where his career is heading in any case. He's not a Mets fan, but he's been here a while and knows the team and the players and it's history. So he'd have plenty of 'remember when?' conversations to have about things, but also would allow Howie to tell older stories without the other host interrupting with "That reminds of this game in Colorado.."
  11. pretty sure you're in the minority there.
  12. Burkhardt?

  14. My first thought is that Beane does this all the time, floating guys he's not really going to trade, trying to provoke someone into giving him a ransom. And Alderson, being a GM looking to improve his team (really, he's not just here to sell guys and reduce payroll) is obviously going to be interested in a good player. But the derision this was treated with was pathetic "What, no, the Mets don't get good players. That goes against the narrative! Blah blah the Mets are sellers didn't you see they tried to trade Niese?"
  15. Phil Mushnick [Fri - NYPost]: Its doubtful Wayne Hagin will be back for a fifth year as Howie Roses partner in the Mets radio booth. Hagins contract has expired and WFAN has been interviewing possible replacements. Can we claim Hagin is the curse? Not convincingly. This isn't a case of life imitating art? The Mets aren't butchering plays in the field because Wayne butchers them in the booth? Hey, Maybe Jason Bay can be the next host. transfer his contract to WFAN, free up payroll.

  20. What about if replay was unavailable for game-ending plays? I guess that's kind of silly though. But yeah, a lot's gonna get written about the first game where a team has a win called back via replay and they go on to lose.
  21. should've looked harder: "he tore his labrum and rotator cuff in 2008, missed the entire 2009 season recovering from surgery and wound up in the Nationals system in 2010" His numbers look good in the minors. Bullpen depth I suppose.
  22. well, if he's getting his own post... Wikipedia wrote: Shortly before the 2002 draft, he broke both of his wrists while attempting to dive off of a roof and into a swimming pool.
