  2. TransMonk wrote: After 3 games, I would get behind a "Sign Wright NOW!!!" thread. I know it's early, but even his outs have looked MVP-ish. Got burned on that last year. sigh. David Wright does not have a lot of swings and misses this season yet. Nor in Spring Training. Three game streak is not unheard of in recent years (although he didn't do it before the DL last year) but it's a good sign to see.
  3. battle for first place in the NL East. big things riding on this series.

  5. Right around 4:30 this afternoon, Mike Pelfrey will eat a grilled ham and cheese sandwich.

I'm still 99% certain that Chris Rock graphic is repurposed from 200..7? The mic is Citi Field though, but I think that's digitally edited. You'll notice the plain white background, because I'm pretty sure that used to be Shea. Anyway, crowd was fairly lively without scoreboard prompting on Opening Day. They don't have Spring Training where games matter for fans to practice though. Give us a couple of days.
  7. Village Voice. pfft. Support your local bloggers food reviews: http://www.ceetar.com/optimisticmetsfan/2012/03/27/mets-add-more-food-options-to-citi-field/ I love the Buffalo Dog btw. Spent (too much) of Opening Day tailgating and chatting with people. (and it was packed and crowded) to do a full walkthrough though. Tomorrow. I'm intrigued by the Gyro/Feta Fries. Only because I hadn't heard about it in the 'new food' mentions.
  8. I may have missed this, it being EAster and all, but I assume Francisco is unavailable for saving games tomorrow. rauch then? Ramirez? Bobby?
  9. it's 4/9. technicalities. I like Jackson, but the Mets are gonna destroy him.
  10. In terms of the Mets, I'm glad we don't have Matt Holliday right now given where the team has gone. It'd be a worse drain on the Mets. What's wrong with his numbers? they look pretty standard minor-major numbers, his Rookie of the Year numbers weren't even his best couple of years, and except for the drop off in 2007, he'd been very steady. Until 2010 when he got to the Mets/Citi Field/they changed the maximum bat diameter rules. And I don't think that last one should be ignored either. I doubt he was taking and then stopped taking. You can use that same argument to infer that Jeter and Mariano were/are using (mid-late 90s Yankees when they came in? yeah) or pretty much everyone that played the game in the last 20 years.
  11. Rule 10.07(h) Comment: In those instances where a pitched ball eludes the catcher and the runner is put out trying to advance, the official scorer shall not charge any caught stealing. The official scorer shall not charge any caught stealing when a runner is awarded a base due to obstruction or when a runner is called out due to interference by the batter. The official scorer shall not charge a runner with a caught stealing if such runner would not have been credited with a stolen base had such runner been safe (for example, when a catcher throws the runner out after such runner tries to advance after a ball that had eluded the catcher on a pitch). Seems like an interpretation, but I guess it makes sense. It'll look like a 2-1 (or 2-6) in the scorecard, but without the CS or PO it'd have to be the out advancing thing.
  12. Tejada-SS, Murphy-2B, Wright-3B, Davis-1B, Bay-LF, Duda-RF, Hairston-CF, Nickeas-C, Niese-LHP
  13. ugh. I really don't want to see that tracked. the stadium is the stadium and I hope they're at least tracking the opposition too. It's not a CS in the box score. I guess it's just plain "out advancing". Would have to dig into the rules to explain exactly why it's not a Stolen Base Attempt if you start once the pitch has been thrown?

The Bay signing reeked of what exactly Bucket is talking about. They signed the second -[crossout]most expensive[/crossout] best OF FA available that year, despite Bay's history of injuries and incongruous career development in the middle of the steroid era. The middle of the steroid era? Minor league drug testing started in 2001, Bay was drafted in 2000. Major League drug testing started 2004, Bay came up in 2003. He had good years right before getting to the Mets. I don't buy arguments (And I've seen them) that he stopped using something undetectable after inking the deal. The deal made sense, Holliday was too big a contract, and Bay definitely could've provided power in an otherwise good lineup that needed a little more SLG. His contract is barely prohibitive to what was a 140 million dollar club, even if he was only smacking half the home runs of previous years. Yeah, you wouldn't get return on investment, but it's suppy/demand and that was tone of the sureer option to get the power the Mets needed/wanted. Addressing 2010 with just hope that the injuries of 2009 and David Wright's power slump were behind them would've been worse.
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I wasn't slamming the personnel so much as the fact that the organization impeded its progress by thinking we wouldn't notice they were also doing dumb shit just for show, getting raped in trades, giving away idiotic contracts, and counting money it hadn't earned from a stadium designed to appeal to the 1% The Wilpons so wanted to be. well I think everything was compounded by bad timing and a confluence of events of Madoff, the economy, investing in a new stadium at that exact time, and suddenly being struck with the injury bug. (because winning seasons even would've mitigated most of that) Contracts like Bay and Perez don't look so bad if they even got half the value from them and the payroll is 40 more.

  17. I like the new SNY ticket and I thought it'd generally been met with approval. I haven't had any problem with besides the normal training my eyes where to look for each bit of data. much better than in previous years.
  18. Edgy DC wrote: Mets face their first lefty tomorrow in Mike Minor. Who escapes from the bench? Hairston? Turner? Nickeas? Cedeo? Mets counter with Jonathon Niese --- a good guy to go after this lefty-heavy lineup. I'm thinking Hairston due to Nieuwenhuis' rookieness. I wouldn't be surprised to see Turner in for Murphy though.
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm getting there but cannot forget that all the right things this group is doing right today results from leadership that basically arrived at the commissioners gunpoint, not because the owners suddenly got intelligent religion. I wouldnt put it past the Wilpons, now that the immediate crisis is over, to kick the eggheads out of office and resume their prior contempt for fans and common sense. You can't ignore that Murphy, Tejada, Nieuwenhuis, Ike, Duda, Thole (extension for Wright) Pelfrey, Gee, Niese, Parnell and even Harvey and Familia and Mejia are all the previous administrations work.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: All things shall be tracked. Encouraging that we played well enough to win a game we didn't play that great. If you're the Braves you've got to be disappointed, devastated being too strong of a word of course. hah. I think they're just happy they scored today.
  21. Mets Willets Point wrote: And we don't have to wait to see the Mets win a series or win two games in a row. Let's hope we can see the Mets' first sweep and three-game win streak next. Glad Edgy's IGT streak is the opposite of his spring training streak. we tracking that this year?
  22. Duda blasts one into the Mo Zone. HR #2. on pace for 162 or so. and now Nieuwenhuis with a hard hit single to right.
  23. Mets take it back on a Thole single off Livan. 3-2 going to bottom-5. 9 for Nieuwenhuis, who just tapped out to short to end the inning.
  24. Dickey fails to sneak a fastball by Prado and we're tied. Oh well, I guess we're not going to allow no runs all season.
