  2. seawolf17 wrote: IV, I think, came out on the SNES or the Gameboy or some system I didn't have. I remember being mad that they did that. Nah, it was NES. October '92. Never was one for the super nintento.
  3. seawolf17 wrote: I think it came with Dragon Warrior. awesome game. Holy crap I LOVED Dragon Warrior. Played the hell out of I, II, and III. oh, IV was real good too. There was a Dragon Quest 5..and 6 i think in Japan. I own Dragon Warrior 7, but only played it for like 3 hours. It's now on the long list of games that I keep meaning to get back to. (checks: Dragon Warrior 7 game out 11/1/2011. yikes) Sadly, games come out faster than I can play them now that I'm an adult with more than one interest. weird, that. Half the time I go to play something I end up replaying some old and awesome too.
  4. yeah, rca->coax. I do vaguely remember those game/tv input boxes. I couldn't find the appropriate piece at radio shack, although I do recall looking in a couple of them before ultimately googling it and finding it online. I know i have a picture of it playing on the tv, but I can't find it. I did have trouble getting a couple of the games to actually work though. It's pretty cool though, just for the insane silliness of playing it on a 46in HDTV. I really didn't play much Atari when I was younger, though I did some, I got an NES when I was 7. I think it came with Dragon Warrior. awesome game. My new quest is to get an emulator working for my old Tandy games, Peanut Butter Panic, Temple of ROM, etc. I spent a lot of time playing those. and yes, we've digressed in this thread.

  6. Edgy DC wrote: Folks'll do anything to get off the Royals. funny, people* are suggesting the Giants should get Francoeur from the Royals. *stupid national beat guys
  7. Edgy DC wrote: Who did Daniel Murphy infect? baseball comp. Murphy's not big enough to be able to woo the ladies with signed baseballs. (I don't think? maybe?)
  8. I think he's a decent comp for Daniel Murphy personally.
  9. "I think we have a much better sense now of who our players are, who we think are going to develop into those championship-caliber players, who may not, and are in a position to act on that," Alderson said. "The last couple of years, we've done a lot of experimenting. Some things have worked out. Some haven't. But I feel a lot more confident about where we're going than I did a couple of years ago." This is what I was talking about in the other thread. I feel like Sandy's poised to dump those "who may not". Doesn't mean the ones he replaces them with will be those who may of course, but..I'm sorta expecting a decent shakeup this offseason.
  10. metsmarathon wrote: happily, minimm has yet to become a battery hog. there's very few of his toys that actually require them, particularly those that he actually plays with. regardless, if you happen to need an antenna hookup, head on down to your local radio shack. sure, some of the stores are total losers, but you're much more likely to walk out of there with what you need than you are if you go to a big box store or a generic electronics retailer. I haven't been to a Radio Shack in ages. I always find them confusing and slow. And they're not overly helpful. I had a hell of time trying to find the attachment I needed to hook up the Atari to the flat screen. Ended up ordering it online, just like i will the micro USB->HDMI cable I want.
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: in an age when people are shifting more, power (and not just his despite the little league park) is down, how is this even possible? I dunno, hence my [crossout]obsession[/crossout] ... er, interest in this topic. I don't think it's shifts with Jeter; he's always been an all-fields hitter and swinging bunts or 'tweeners' just can't be defended. Plus I don't see the infield hits he's getting as having any particular pattern to them other than good fortune (or lax official scorers). oh, he definitely gets a bunch of them on reputation. I wonder if he played at a more fair park, if he'd basically be Luis Castillo (well that's an exaggeration) and people would play him in more? He's not exactly a guy tattooing the fences, so if the outfielders played in so his flares to the outfield got caught, the infielders could play in and make the plays on his squibs? But the extra half dozen home runs he gets makes people think he has power. (Well, not A-Rod, he always understood Jeter was the guy you pitched to when you faced the Yankees) Or maybe he's just good enough to hit fastballs well so that pitchers throw breaking stuff, and he's got good enough bat control to bat-on-ball those and it results in all sorts of weird bounces and hops? Edgy DC wrote: Well, part of it is that he's hitting a lot more infield grounders, so that a greater number of grounders are available to turn into infield hits. I field dirty just checking is baseball-reference page, you know? yeah. *shudder* I keep trying to figure out how to add "Gave Jessica Alba Herpes" to his list of nicknames.
  12. on my way to check his b-r page, and one of the companion searches is "Derek Jeter herpes" apparently he gave Jessica Alba herpes or something. I think i mentioned this in the MFY thread actually, but his worst career OPSs with a meaninful sample size are against the Red Sox, Mariners, White Sox, Rays, and Orioles. He's been pretty bad against the Rays these last couple of years too, in the aggressive shift days. You think the other clubs would learn. Although maybe they have, since he's pretty bad against the AL East that sees him the most.
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: * he's on pace to wind up with nearly twice as many IF hits during his age 36-38 seasons as he had during his 26-28 years In an age when people are shifting more, power (and not just his despite the little league park) is down, how is this even possible?
  14. Edgy DC wrote: Dumb question, but can't one switch off the cable and get the game through the airwaves, or is that not possible anymore? I thought they went all digital? This isn't something I've tried though. But maybe you can plug the cable directly into the tv, as the cablevision blocking thingy is in the box right?
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: I mentioned the Jeter single for two reasons. - One was because I was making a big deal about a week ago about what a large segment of his hits (over 20%) have been IF singles. And since I wrote that I've seen at least 3 different IF singles from him. - I saw the hit today and it should have been: A) an error, and a double play, but wound up being neither. The flip from the SS pulled the 2Bman off the base and also caused his relay to be late. Couple more calls like that one and he won't have to get the ball out of the infield in order to pass Rose I was briefly toying with it the other day. Fangraphs only seemed to have data for infield hits back to 2002, but it's Ichiro 1, Jeter 2. Jeter and Tejada both at 110 OPS+. Jeter has .30 more OPS, mostly in slugging. (actually .33 more) That's adjusted for league and park, and doesn't seem right.
  16. Really seemed like the Reds didn't show up for this one.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Wait... we knew Beato was being DFA'd? I think that can be assumed by him being named. Not whether or not he was ever going to be useful, but the Mets only gave him 4 innings, and need relievers that can get the job done/strike guys out. So he clearly wasn't impressing them, and despite Alderson suggesting they haven't started thinking about the 2013 budget yet, they know they'll need roster spots and if they decided Beato was the 40th man and were going to DFA him to get him off the roster anyway.. I think this makes more sense than Alderson was playing dice games with the Red Sox and lost? Gwreck wrote: You don't give away prospects (however loosely that term may apply to Beato) for EVALUATION time for a platoon/backup catcher. Seriously? You do if he's not a prospect and simply a AAAA reliever that you don't believe is going to work out. I mean, the Mets DFAd Fernando Martinez and Josh Satin this year. Those guys may be higher 'prospects' than Beato.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: It all makes the timing of this trade even tougher to understand. not really. They get 6 weeks of up close and personal evaluation of a guy they had on their radar for next year anyway. And get him to get his feet wet with the pitchers he'd catch. All for a guy they were going to DFA. Which clears up a 40 man roster spot that was being used by a minor leaguer (Shoppach is going to take Nickeas' or Johnson's)
  19. so basically we traded him for a 40 man roster spot next year.
  20. bigger name than I expected to be named. My main memory of him is a couple of weeks ago at Star Wars Night, in the rain, extra innings, him putting the game out of reach.
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: eh. It's one thing to explain to the folks at home what's happening, another to convince an athlete what's best/right etc. And I like those guys in the booth where they are. What I want is for the token X-Met coaching assignment go to a Pat Zachry or Butch Huskey or some dude who's not flashing his 86 bling all over the joint. Give me Dennis Cook! Bring me Steve Henderson. Jason Jacome, come on down. Rick Reed? (checks) Reed's the pitching coach for Marshall University apparently.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: That's something. Mex back in uniform would be a fantastic sideshow. I just don't know if he's capable of even pretending to lead the sort of stable disciplined life that a leader of young men would have to have. He's a mercurial dude --- part of what makes him great on broadcasts, but I imagine by May of his first year, a batter could come to him and ask, "What am I doing wrong here?" and he'd respond. "You know, I don't care what you do." I think he'd be more "you're hopeless" than not caring. Both him and Ron have hinted that they have talked to players about their trade. Maybe that's the best we can ask of them right now.
  23. If you have a run of heads, the more likely you'll have a run of tails no. If you flip a coin and get 10 heads in a row, the most probable result for 100 flips is 55 heads.
  24. Vic Sage wrote: When pendulums swing back, and trends revert to the mean, they don't stop at the balancing point. they blow right on by, then slink back. The fact was that we were BABIP-ing and "2-out RBI"-ing our way to more early wins than our overall production could justify or sustain. And now the trend has reversed. wow, shocker. yeah, no. That's saying that if you flip a coin 10 times and get 8 heads, you'll probably get 8 tails in the next 10 flips.
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: No more 86 Mets! I dunno, sometimes i think just an audio feed of Keith and Ron talking from last night's game is all the pitching/hitting coach they need.
