  1. Neither of them are begging out of games, but it's a long grueling season no matter what shape you're in. (and Ripken probably should have sat some of those games) in the death throes of a season going nowhere, might as well give them a rest.

  3. without Duda the Mets are losing this game.
  4. Astros swinging early against Hefner, no score, 31 pitches through 3.
  5. I renewed a league I made for a blog that didn't have a whole lot of interest last year, so now we only have four members. Want to join a fantasy football league? http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/435387 league id: 435387 pw: icecream2
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: I'm OK with this - especially knowing that all moves at this time of year are temporary anyway. I'd rather the 5 games from Duda anyway, I think he's got a better shot of 2013 contributions. Jordany technically needs to stay down 10 days I think though. or is that rule not relevant across roster expansion?
  7. Swan Swan H wrote: SNY is reporting that Duda is heading back from Buffalo. No word on who will get going - might Hairy be dealt? people are speculating Jordany. but i suppose many things are possible. maybe the Dodgers want Bay.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: I expected to like this one more than I did. Not quite sure why it fell (somewhat) flat for me. same sentiment. gave it a 2.5 or 4/9. I never really understood his motivation for anything. I wasn't sure if he was actually flirting with the girl or just being helpful. Overall it just seemed to be a poor excuse for a murderous rampage. "Here's a stunt driving scene to introduce the skin-mask thing for later" (Even though no one ever saw him in it and lived...so what's the point? They introduce the husband for like three seconds, really just long enough to set up the job they need to get Gosling (did he have a name? I think they mentioned his name once somewhere..) another getaway driver job and start the rampage bit. I guess all the crime/driving stuff was interconnected with the mob and he's always been part of that in some way. Just a low level grunt doing jobs when asked. The whole movie seemed to lack motivation for anything that happened and you never really understand why he's doing anything he does. Or why he's so skilled at combat and all that. So really it's just a story about a low-level grunt that ends up having to kill a lot of people to protect a girl he likes. It's called Drive but there wasn't enough cool car chases and way too many scenes of awkward silence.

Ruben Tejada jumped like he was going to cut it off, and seemingly deked Green into not taking second. Heads up. Also, just the simple act of getting the throw low enough and accurate enough to where the runner thinks it could be cut-off is enough to hold runners, with or without a good deke -- and that's what our outfielders have not been doing a good job on all year (hence our whole thread here somewhere on our pitiful OF throws) Josh Thole came to bat to "Who let the dogs out" in one at-bat. I'd bench him on those grounds alone. Hairston to me has been and adequate but not particularly adept outfielder, but he made that throw pretty well. He also hustled over and cut off a liner down the line to keep it at a single. so props to Hairston today. I don't remember where he played in San Diego, but maybe he's just a better Rightfielder overall? Well, on Piazza Bobblehead day I think Thole gets a pass for Who Let the Dogs Out.
  10. 7th inning stretch crowd shot. Notes from the game, if we're still doing that: 1. Greene laced a single to right field, and the throw was headed to third. Ruben Tejada jumped like he was going to cut it off, and seemingly deked Green into not taking second. Heads up. Crowd was dead. Pretty sure it took until the 9th for a Lets Go Mets chant. (and I don't think we were prompted for one ever..) Steak Sandwich is yummy. you knew that. I hate when the U.S. Open is there too. so messy with parking/traffic. Got a bobblehead and a 50th anniversary Mets ice cream helmet. Josh Thole came to bat to "Who let the dogs out" in one at-bat. They were randomly playing the James Bond theme between innings at one point. Would've been cooler on the organ.
  11. Also, Josh Thole came up to bat to "Who Let the Dogs Out" in his third at-bat today.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: Harder maybe. Not the same thing as hard. Although two of the three times he got the ball out of the infield this week were in his final two ABs well, if I recall he drove one into the outfield that i thought might fall in, and the other was a good 350 feet. of course, we're well past "hey, he hit it hard at least" but just what I noted. where was he on the passed ball/wild pitch today? Couldn't really tell from the stands. Usually you almost give him a pass considering Dickey though.
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: Since I first posted this (3 games ago) Thole has gone 0-for-10 with three Ks, one walk (intentional), and one GiDP He's gotten three balls out of the infield. I thought he really hit the ball hard today. just at people. I dunno.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: Can one of these reporters actually dig for facts rather than just speculate? Lord knows, there are enough of them. Leave the idle and baseless speculations to the rest of us. if you mean Bayless, I don't think he's a reporter, he's a ESPN 'be idle and baseless' guy. What Murray Chass has said isn't any more idle or baseless. maybe less, considering it wasn't based on a statistical observation but a appearance one. But could that keep Mike from the first ballot? Could this keep Jeter from being left off by 5-6 so as to preserve Seaver's percentage?

  16. This a day after he claimed he wasn't going to talk about the Mets anymore. Whatever, he's an idiot. I imagine half the stuff he yelled about either A. isn't true, B. Was something Sandy told him yesterday they were going to address.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Note that Baxt wasn't pinch-hit for against the lefty. next time maybe.

I'm crazy about ninth-inning pinch-hit homers. Is that one of the 5-tools? Mets squander a Baxter walk in this one, but clear pitcher.

  20. Zvon wrote: If Valde don't steal at some point here I see no reason for him being at the top of the order. even if he does steal I don't see a reason. of course, that was the first game-starting walk for the Mets in 50 games.
  21. Edgy DC wrote: Gabby Douglas in the house today. 8th inning 'guy' or bat off bench?
  22. And the first two non-playoff teams are only 3.5 and 4 behind for the WC.
