  1. bath time starting now. rushing to bed time. If I don't show up by like 9:05 someone ping me in case I fell asleep.

  3. metsmarathon wrote: yay, no playoffs! (more specifically, yay no format change for playoffs! i'm not necessarily opposed to playoffs in general.) i spoke with the new owner of the deathship. he expects to have his cutlist done by sunday. hope that's enough time. sorry for helping to keep him very very busy at work. welcome backabordick seo! Sunday's fine. I probably should've set a hard date. I personally don't care because I do zero draft prep.

Batter categories: R, HR, OBP, SLG Pitcher categories: ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K Just curious, did I miss the decision on playoffs? looks like ceeter was still considering, last message I saw. no playoffs. we'll debate in a month or so for 2019. I swapped you in as the owner of the team. have at it.

No one's vehemently come out in favor of playoffs so that sounds rather like the basis for making a decision, doesn't it? I'm still wavering between that and the "fuck it all, you're wrong and it's not a big deal. it's my league. deal with it." side. But I'll decide by the end of the day.
  6. your team is your team. keepers are already set. you keep everyone. It'll suck to miss the draft though. At the very least you should see if you can find someone that just wants to draft for you, at least just for a few guys to round out the roster. otherwise you'll have a week to play with the waiver wire and add guys. You're coming in with a real solid team though.
  7. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I got an email from mm's homie. He said he'd be dropping and would ship the old Guadalajara Cornballers team back to me, if that's cool with everybody else. If so, would you guys refresh me on the format, key dates, etc.? And catch me up on the new changes? Gracias... what was your fangraphs/ottoneu id? main one is you have to be available (or find a proxy to be available) next Wednesday at 9 for the auction draft. Otherwise it's Otto roto. categories listed on the team pages, your prospective roster. https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/209/team?team=1886 the current argument is a few people seem adamantly against playoffs because of a slightly different format for determining the winner. No one's vehemently come out in favor of playoffs (though I'm sure they will the second I cave and nix the playoffs) Currently winner is crowned at the end of the season based on the roto categories. proposal would be a head to head format over the last 4 weeks of the season which uses a more counting based statistic grouping (doubles, SB, HR etc) rather than the rate based ones we use now.
  8. metsmarathon wrote: so i just PM'd seo; a spot may be opening up. the playoffs thing is a factor in the decision-making - not the only consideration, but it pushed him over the edge. i _really_ think you should reconsider the playoffs... In theory I would, but I'm not comfortable, nor have the time to shake everyone down, in the lack of response I'll get if I request/demand a response/vote. the turnout/conversation on the initial thing three weeks ago was sparse as it was.
  9. A Boy Named Seo wrote: If everyone else falls though and you need an extra dude, I can play. I was terrible a few years ago at keeping up with the daily lineup changes, but work has me in front of a desk 5 days/week, so I'd be more reliable nowadays. LMK, fellas. Personally I'd rather someone from here, but did Marathon already promise the team?
  10. There are other places to chime in than here and I only heard from one person that was against it. I'll need some convincing that anyone would've done arbitration or keepers differently because of a slightly different format for September. I don't see what anyone's up in arms about. We'll still have a regular season 'champion' and the official but still just for fun with no additional accolades 'winner' will be determined by a little different arrangement of stats rather than who got lucky and drafted/kept the breakout guys in April and accumulated stats. It seems like such a minute difference to get up in arms about, and there were plenty of complaints about the current system anyway and the disinterest late in the season, etc. Anyone else want to weigh in?
  11. metsmarathon wrote: Ceetar wrote: We may need another player, anyone in? there's a guy i work with who would very likely be interested. what do i need to tell him? Okay. see if he actually wants to play and we'll get him in. We'll give him a short grace period to cut whoever he wants from the roster to get ready for the draft.
  12. metsmarathon wrote: just so you know, the non-forum members who work with me are not at all happy with the playoff format change. i don't disagree with them. i like the appeal of playoffs, but not with the format change. that's just absurd. seriously, i think you're in danger of ruining my favorite fantasy league. Only one person chimed in. The overwhelming support was for playoffs.

I figure give LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr a chance to at least claim he wants to play this season first, but if not, the usual $10 spiel.
  14. We may need another player, anyone in?
  15. metsmarathon wrote: fluky is one thing. switching formats is another. though i suppose the analogy would be akin to doing shootouts in hockey at the end of overtime. I mean, we decide the baseball champion by a tournament after a division format regular season. It's not like that's the best representation of the best team either.
  16. a little, yes. I mean, Fantasy in September with roster additions is crazy anyway. Even without the playoffs the actual winner could come down to picking up the right fluky guy that happens to get a lot of playing time in September off garbage pitchers on a bad team. Might as well do it showdown style.
  17. I like the different stats, but I've been finding the rate stats pretty frustrating in practice. A lot of the super overperformers are luck, or at least heavily fluctuating. especially WHIP which would feels like there are only a couple handful of actually 'good' guys at WHIP and the other is random fluctuation and adjustment that may not be correlated to playing time so it's hard to pick guys. Solid strikeout relievers might be called upon to IBB guys, etc. I dunno. Nothing is perfect. I've felt like once you fall behind in rate stats it's harder to catch up, versus having a bad two months of head to head means you can still make the adjustments and be good the rest of the way instead of having to be that much better to make up for the early struggles.
  18. metsmarathon wrote: wait... are the playoffs also something that happens if we're still 4x4 roto? yes. they'll just be ranked by finish.
  19. Playoffs options. Playoffs will be H2H regardless of the regular season. Either 6 teams with the top two getting a bye or 4 teams. two weeks semi, two weeks final or 4 teams, 1 week semi, two weeks final. I believe this option avoids the final week of the season. I haven't put up a divisions poll yet unless H2H wins, but if we don't have H2H we have no divisions. Ranked 1-6 as obvious. seeding is still fairly obvious. 2 divisions means top 2 or top 3. 3 divisions means top 2, or top 1 and the best other record.
  20. Switching to head to head also means switching scoring systems which sorta means our keeper choices might've been poorly informed. I included a 'switch in 2019' option in the poll if you like the idea of switching, but don't want to do it yet for this reason. The only difference in Fangraphs/SABR points is that Fangraphs penalizes pitchers for hits and is very slightly less punishing for HR (-12.3 instead of -13) Currently we're Roto (OBP, SLG, HR, R and ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K) H2H would be AB,H,2B,3B,HR,BB,HBP,SB,CS and IP,K,(H),BB,HBP,HR,SV,HOLD H2H gives us the options of divisions. Either 2 or 3, which you can comment about or we can vote about after. I would probably just assign the teams to divisions in sequential order of standing last season to try to divy it up fairly competitively.
  21. I'm updating Ottoneu. league password is 'welcome abordick' which should help keep rando's from claiming teams that we lose and don't notice, etc. new features and the like. playoffs, head to head? http://community.ottoneu.com/t/head-to-head-scoring-coming-to-ottoneu-fantasy-baseball-in-2018/2669 this will be messy as it's new features, new coding. but we gotta do it. it makes it more competitive. I'm going to turn playoffs on unless there's overwhelming angst about it. We can vote on switching to head to head/divisions and the playoff format. The playoff format will always be head to head though, just an fyi. I'm gonna make two threads for voting. one for head to head versus current, one for playoff options.
