  1. I think Gee may have settled in now that he's gotten his velocity up. weak hitting team too. Not that that's stopped anyone. Still competing for his job though. Suddenly we've got too much depth? (unless Niese's tendinitis flares..)

I doubt Jeter is involved in Biogensis as much as I doubt he's never taken a steroid in his life. Seems like a guy to stick with what's worked for him in the past and not gotten him caught. (Same for Rivera for that matter, and really 95% of any Yankee from the late 90s early 2000s that didn't get caught yet)

  5. Edgy MD wrote: It's "writing" a wrong? I fail to see how such a discreditable process is a gift to the fans. It's about advertisers getting their logos in front of fans. I'd agree that fans want to feel involved and included, especially in this social media world.
  6. Nymr83 wrote: Could the Mets just say "fuck you" and sign a development agreement with the Long Island Ducks? How does the level of play in the Atlantic League compare? to Triple-A? It's not even close. That'd be a disaster for the Mets. Now, could they convince the Yankees, Phillies and Red Sox to take over the Bridgeport Bluefish, Camden Riversharks and Newark Bears (Actually I think the Bears dropped from the Atlantic league, but same point) in a development agreement that raises the level of play for the Atlantic league or hell, create a whole new league? Go out to Metsmarathon's backyard, build another stadium, have the four teams share a huge complex and play each other. Everyone's fairly close to home. the minor leaguers don't need to waste time on buses and travel and can just focus on getting better and they never have to lookup where the nearest Chipotle is cause they'll already know (or really, if you're building a new complex, put one in)

  8. vtmet wrote: winning teams tend to do well in the votings, regardless of each player's results...Giants/Reds/Cards/Braves have most of their players in the top spots... and likewise, basement dwellers don't get representation... yes, because most of this voting is done by those fringe "Oh! Baseball is exciting this summer? cool!" fans not the diehards. The voting is a travesty across the board every year. I've lost all ability to care. I love the game and all that, but MLB makes sure the best players are represented with a pretty good accuracy rate, so whatever.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: metsmarathon wrote: maybe part of the solution is to take the AAA out of las vegas, and promote another city, or get another city started up. That's been my thought too. Can they do that? (I mean, it's MLB, they can do anything, but..) Aren't technically the teams/leagues all independently run? You'd have to force the Vegas owners to move (which, they're talking about) or find a new owner and force them out, but that might not be MLBs call. Also, while Vegas adds dryness, the inflated offense stuff isn't exactly unique to there. the PCL is a mess of that.

Plus, it's not like stories about Jeff micromanaging or organization-wide communication issues have been widely rumored and often reported during the last 5-10 years or so. also, that time period was (and probably still is) a time period when most companies were looking to micro manage a little more (and started to have more and more ability to do so thanks to computers and what not) And also a time when the product the big clubs were loaning these affiliates was becoming worth more and more.
  11. metirish wrote: Yeah the Dickey comment jumped out at me too....but fuck that, worrisome to hear the pitchers hate it there.... on the other hand, tell the minor league journeyman types to stop bitching and pitch. Everyone (besides WFAN callers) knows it's a hitters environment and they look at your performance with that grain of sand.
  12. Getting those Opening Day packages nailed down was a bit of a run around (behind the scenes that is). Seemed like there was a lot of red tape going on, but it might just have been that it was the offseason and they were still finalizing pricing and seatings and budgets and all that. MLB loses more money than the Mets do probably, with all the licensing bits and what not, but I imagine they sell more tickets than they might trying to beg other groups to buy those seats.
  13. I think inferring that the Mets only got Dickey to make their AAA affiliate happy is a bit much, but yeah, interesting to hear more about Vegas.

Teammates are demoralizing themselves nicely without any help from him. I wish they gave a shit about us fans. What do fans have to do about it? Plenty of fans, like me, are perfectly happy to never see Jordany get another PA, but ultimately the only thing fans care about is winning. Oh, they'll talk a good game, but all that other stuff is a drop in the bucket compared to the attention and attendance of winning. Anyway, OFers I'd like to see in order. Duda/Nieuwenhuis/Baxter/Lagares/Valdespin/Brown/Cowgill/Hoffman/Byrd/Ankiel
  15. I just hope they draft someone good. This 2017 team should be real good!
  16. on the Mets front, d'Arnaud out of his boot. Baseball Activity time!

Yeah, I sometimes Google what's filming with the thought of wandering around nearby in a Mets cap. Wandered through a crowd shot of Ninja Turtles that way.

Screw 'em. good for Kevin.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I dunno. I was thrilled when it happened, just because, but that game if any illustrated just how random and weird a no-hitter can be, but that sense of randomness along with the Baxter play is what was great. I think in my Mets-watching life I've experienced a few dozen better performances by a starting pitcher that didn't wind up as NHs, that's what makes this great, NOT that is was extraordinary in other ways. Well sure, we celebrate the random and the weird as part of what makes baseball great. It weaves a story beyond the strict value of the performance. three cheers for statistical oddities. I was at Johan's start the weekend before that and it was probably a better performance.
  21. Finally saw this. Beyond the silly reboot (did anyone see this that DIDN'T know the origin story?) it just.. are we sure it wasn't a Godzilla remake?
  22. Saturday, June 1 @ Miami Omar Quintanilla - SS Daniel Murphy - 2B David Wright - 3B Lucas Duda - LF John Buck - C Rick Ankiel - CF Ike Davis - 1B Jordany Valdespin - RF Collin McHugh - RHP
  23. Edgy MD wrote: It's a good object lesson. I don't consider it a letdown, but beating the Yankees don't mean the offense has their shit together. And two stupid flares off the end of the bat in the seventh are bad breaks but they shouldn't have been in a position for those breaks being the diff. Exactly, and with some runs and/or a lead Marcum probably pitches differently. I know they played to permit the run already, but if it's 3-0 with runners on you simply do what you do to get an out, not worry about how to get that out or if you can get/need multiples in one play.
  24. Oh, the Mets still suck, et al, but we got ourselves off the no-hit schneid. Another perspective suggests the Mets didn't suck at all, but have ever since. Mets the first two months of 2012: 29-23 (.558) Mets ever since: 67-95 (.414) So, any of us who said, posted, or thought something along the lines of "Whatever else happens this season will be gravy --- we have a no-hitter to forever cherish and it's all worth it!" or the like, let us all step forward and collect our booby prizes. Interestingly, that's exactly 162 games. So I like to think our cosmic debt is paid in full and we get to back to moving forward exactly NOW!!!! #ArbitraryEndPoints

Next year at this time perhaps Terry will wish the MFYs had taken one or two games in 2013 so as to relieve the pressure his team felt on their next stop in Miami. Agreed. I understand the fretting and worry in hindsight (And don't we all do the 'hope he gives up a hit' in the back of our head things? Mets are down 4-2 in the 8th of a west coast game the thought doesn't cross your mind that if they go quietly you get to go to bed?) but now that it's over and done with and had no effect, let it be.
