  2. indeed it be Burke optioned for our Wonder Wheeler.

The Mets' only other good hitters are 27-year-old, fielding-challenged Lucas Duda and 35-year-old Marlon Byrd. Agree with the big picture ... the premise. (No surprise) But Neyer left out Murphy, a good hitter, better even than Byrd. Well, this year? Murphy's wOBA/OPS+: .310/101 Byrd's wOBA/OPS+: .344/126 Byrd's getting on-base more and slugging MUCH more. Sure, but go back two weeks and that's not the case. Getting Byrd at the peak of a hot streak and Murphy at the valley of a slump. And probably go forward two weeks and the same thing.

All I hear is screaming, grunting, shreiking, clashing of iron, and what sounds like cannons (?). Am I right to think it sounds awful? Has anybody seen it? re-reading this, are you sure he wasn't just watching porn? ;-)
  7. I'm amused by the little twist, kind of want to watch it.

I think it's neat sometimes, particularly when you get a splash of color (like Mets fans in Orange in a section at Yankee Stadium) but The White Sox even mentioning Black seems wrong.

  10. I think the call was ultimately wrong with no runners on. Once he goes to make a transfer, in any way, the ball is caught and the play is over because there is no need to make a throw. But with a runner on, the transfer is part of the action that needs to happen so you can conceivably argue he could be trying to hurry and drop it because he's trying to do two things catch and transfer to be able to throw. With no one on, all he's trying to do is catch the ball. But whatever, a billion calls go against the Mets including ones where I would've sworn it was a catch and transfer thing and it was ruled a drop.

I suspect when you're a low scoring team this tends to happen more often. (but hey, they're creeping up towards 4 r/g)
  12. either way though, giving it the two weeks to see what it looks like seems like the smart "more information" avenue to take. Remove the stressor and see what happens. vis-a-vis healing. Worst case is you get into that murky "well, it seems better, let's give it another 2 weeks" cycle, but being able to NOT cut into a pitcher's shoulder always feels like a great idea.
  13. I played Google doctor a little after it was announced for some of the more recent cases. Two guys this year Both Chris Narveson and Roy Halladay had surgery. Tommy Hanson was diagnosed in August 2011, didn't have surgery that I can find, but had has poor 2012 blamed on the rotator cuff. Brandon Lyon had the diagnosis in April of 2011 and missed a month before returning for 3 games. He then developed biceps tendinitis and had surgery for that and the shoulder and missed the season. It's unclear whether the tendinitis was related, was based on adjusting his motion, or what not. It seems like surgery for that is rare, and Lyon's case was more of there just being too much wrong so let's go in and fix what we can. So Dr. Ceetar sees a glimmer of hope, but someone smart has to make sure Niese isn't altering his delivery. If he is, it very likely could mean reduced velocity like Hanson, or other injuries like Lyon. Now to the "why bother, the Mets suck" angle, which always bothers me. Guys want to pitch, they want to play, the team wants to win. You don't just wrap guys in a bubble until you can use them to fire the fatal shot. they might be rusted in the gun. But you don't want to go into the offseason with Niese as an unknown either. Sure, don't rush him back in a month, but you'd like to see him come back and pitch too.

  15. Or any stage. It seems like every team in the division is messing with each other. They're all in dire straights but maybe trying to let on like it's not so dire, because they're all in dire straights. I'm not sure that, if somebody offered me any team in the division, the Phils aren't at the bottom of my list. That's on paper. In reality, I don't touch the Nats. In terms of going forward, you have to seriously consider the Mets as the team you want to be. I don't know if the Braves are going to falter enough for a miracle '73 run, but with the Mets pitching.. starter ERA in june: 3.35 reliever ERA in june: 3.84 mets runs per game in june: 3.47 If they could just mix in one good hitter, or a one and a half..they should be comfortably outscoring their runs allowed.

I think it means that it took a shock to his system before he started to listen to anyone. well, there were like 45 billion people suggesting things, plus the level of competition, and park factors (Remember he was flying out to deep center quite a lot the last month or so)

Citi Field is about the only thing that made Pelfrey appear to be a semi-decent pitcher...he obviously isn't as fortunate to be calling Minnesota home...he probably should have chosen a place like San Diego, Seattle or Miami to continue his mirage of being a MLB caliber pitcher... I disagree on the park factor thing, and I think he'll settle in, I think he's suffering from the missing a year thing. But they made the right call because at the time they made the decision it was unlikely he was going to pitch to start the season, and if you needed a fallback plan you might as well just pick a main plan and move on for the arb money. But i'm starting to think it's worth it to keep guys like Pelfrey and Byrdak around who seem to heal from injuries remarkably fast and at least trend towards overall health. Mets are hoping to have five starters better than Pelfrey, but for many teams an average ish pitcher like Pelfrey who you don't have to worry (well, only barely have to worry, he's still a pitcher) much about not being there is a nice thing to have.
  22. honestly I wouldn't be surprised tosee him back if he continue to hit at this rate the next time the Mets are home.

I want so bad for Wright to have his first 3 HR game. Sooooooo, since I want that and I said that, it won't happen. With the current parameters he's scheduled for ~ infinity more AB, so I have faith he'll get it.
