It would've been easy and even understandable if he accepted less than he got for those guys. (or for Byrd/Buck) There are other things of course. The bullpen. The Pagan giveaway. Also the unwillingness to overpay even a little bit for most guys (perhaps Granderson is a shift in this regard) and being willing to let them walk. I get that the Mets aren't quite at the 'go for it stage' but sometimes you need to make bolder moves to get into that position. But this negative spin stuff is why i don't read Rubin. I get that he hustles and gets more information and schmoozes everyone in the organization for extra info, he's a fine reporter, but those extra nuggets aren't worth to me the baggage and bitchiness he brings.

I think it's all because they came up at roughly the same time. which of course is fudging it a bit. Jeter barely played in 95. Posada got into one game and one postseason game. (Jeter didn't get into any). no AB and didn't play in the '96 playoffs at all. Rivera sucked and was converted to a reliever fulltime in '96. But Bernie was there prior to that so he must have been part of the reason they sucked then right?

Even if true, and the Yankees liked that contract, no telling that Boras wouldn't have turned around and told the Mets "make it $130". Plus it's the unnamed source, and no details. was it really 100/6? was there an option year? 3 option years? incentive bonuses? no no trade? (Astros had a competitive offer but wouldn't offer no-trade supposedly) basically, fits the narrative, but there's really very little to go on.

Or did they try for a week, see that it showed no progress and decide it wasn't working? Did anyone mention the reason for the decision change with Parnell? yes, but it's hardly bionic. We've (baseball) gotten a handful of guys having their second TJ this season. It's still surgery and not foolproof. Plus if it ever reaches the point of pure enhancement baseball will just ban it anyway. If anything, I wonder if the trend should be to NOT have the surgery on partial tears as things like PRP get better at recovery. (Why even try that if it's only gonna be a week btw?) These things clearly didn't come out of nowhere. What did pitchers do 50 years ago? retire? suck? suck for a couple of years and then learn the knuckleball and win the Cy Young and get traded to Toronto? Or did they suck and then recover? Did said partials heal over time? If Parnell took his PRP and didn't throw for a year, would it be healed?
