  1. I know people want to believe the narratives but he's right, he knows more about the finances than anyone else that's written about them.

  4. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I like the idea of closer by committee, if it means you have several good choices. I like the idea a lot less if it means you only have a variety of bad choices. Well, we cut one of the bad choices. The lack of adherence to one guy though allows a good one to rise from the ashes. There's some talent floating around out there.
  5. John Ryan Murphy. Youngest catcher in the majors.
  6. I've got a generic one around here somewhere. I could've sworn I ordered David Wright but it was a plain 00 when he got here. sometimes I let yoshi play with his bat.

    Gee to DL

Edgy MD wrote: I kinda wanted to see deGrom start over Montero. Montero had been uncharacteristically wild so far this season. deGrom has been money. deGrom's more fun to say too.
  8. note via Elias: "the Mets are the first team in the modern era (since 1900) to have a streak of three straight major-league debuts by starters who pitched at least five innings and held their opponents scoreless." -- so Rafael Montero will be challenged to match what Matt Harvey, Collin McHugh and Zack Wheeler did in their first games. Anyone who could have pulled Collin McHugh out of their cap, please step up and collect your prize. It wasn't really a long time ago..
  9. Montero. At Citi Field.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: And somebody's going to have to buy it today to make room for Mitsubishi Montero. Favorite seems to be Valverde, with a popular groundswell building behind Farnie. Figure there's an outside shot for Dice-K given his usage yesterday making him unavailable. But then again, he pitched well. I'm going with Farnsworth. My guess is his leash is shorter since he didn't start with the team.
  11. I feel like Oliver Perez probably had a couple 4IP 6BB 7K 2H type lines. here's one. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN200709160.shtml 4.2 IP. 6H, 5R, 2ER, 6 BB, 6K http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN200807110.shtml 6 IP, 2H, 1 HR, 6BB, 7K, 119 pitches
  12. What a game. Let's keep it going so I can use the game/series as a ships passing in the night metaphor for the long term viability of the respective franchises.

Duda came back after missing a couple of days and getting intravenous treatment. And Duda's a monster. A few days of dehydration probably hits Flores all the harder. Someone tweeted that he was. But that could just mean HE said he was, doesn't mean Collins agrees either.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: What the hell with Flores? He hasn't exactly proven he's a viable option. Tejada's hit well the past two games, might as well ride it.
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Was just listening at lunch. Fatcessa said the Mets are mad at the FAN because their agreement with the MFYs prevents the Mets from doing promos like ticket giveaways on the station, and so withholding guests is their way of fighting back. Sure, because doing the promos on Z100 and Q104.3 or whatever the sister stations are isn't enough. yawn.
  16. Going with Familia.
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think its likely that the Mets are taking orders from Clear Channel as to what they can or cannot do on the radio anymore. I'm pretty sure Terry still does a weekly thing with Fatso. he doesn't according to that post. Many of the Mets already had a contentious relationship with "The Pope" so hunger to go out of their way to appear on that show. Interesting how no one's seemingly noticed or missed Collins' weekly spot or really any of this until now. Seems like sports radio needs the Mets more than the Mets need opinionated talking heads.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I can see Farnsworth taking Familia under his wing and giving him a swirlie. It's a shame he wasn't clean yesterday. You know the Yankees would be eyeing him this morning if he got the job done. relievers the Yankees have used this season: David Phelps, Adam Warren, Shawn Kelley, Matt Thornton, Dellin Betances, David Robertson, Preston Claiborne, Cesar Cabral, Afredo Aceves, Chris Leroux, Bruce Billings, Matt Daley, Dean Anna, Shane Greene

Frayed Knot wrote: Statistically it's a virtual toss-up KF = 19 G; 17 IP; 18 H; 6 BB; 10 K; 3.18 ERA; 1.41 WHiP JV = 15 G; 15.1 IP; 14 H; 7 BB; 19 K; 4.11 ERA; 1.37 WHiP I think I said in some thread somewhere that Valverde seemed to have lost any semblance of swing-and-miss stuff, but those K-rates say otherwise. Also the Pitches throw/batter are about the same for each: KF = 275 pitches to 71 batters faced (3.87 per) JV = 257/67 (3.84) my impressions of it is that KF has pretty much sucked most outings while JV has been more hit or miss.
  20. Lefty Specialist wrote: What kind of virus puts you on the 15-day DL? Must be something really nasty. Or they just made that up to fudge the roster. He seems to have fallen out of favor a little (I disagree) but if he's contracted whatever is going around and you're without him a couple of days, might as well swap him out. It's also worth noting that he hasn't pitched since 5/5 and that means his DL stint is already half over. I vote Farnsworth. I think Valverde might still have something left. A couple of hot streaks here and there. I'm not sure Farnsy has any value at all and last night didn't help his case.
  21. deGrom up, Germen DL with a virus.
  22. Nymr83 wrote: Was that the Jeter Retirement Tour Strike Zone there? 2 of those balls were strikes, one obviously so. Brooks Baseball which is perhaps a little more accurate? has it as more balls, but the 5th still clearly a strike.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Man, that's like five or six hard-hit balls for Ruben in the last two days. Not sure he had that many all year prior to yesterday. he did. he was trending near the the top of the "hard hit leaderboard" that Mark Simon was tabulating for most of April. Granderson too.
  24. Wait wait, Duda drove in Campbell. The Campbell racetrack's five miles long Oh! Duda day!
  25. Seafood Bisque! what?
