  1. that's the one. interesting. also, see? Why not have Murphy DH for reps in Texas?
  2. conspiracy theory: Sandy is telling other GMs "no, Gee and Montero aren't _depth_. see? we're using both of them. they're integral to our success. pony up if you want them."
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: They don't want to play Murphy in Texas because then if they do need to DL him they couldn't back-date it. As things stand now he's been playing only in minor league (read: non tickets sold) games so the team can essentially custom design the length of his DL stint if they so choose. Right right, my point is if he's in Washington with the intent to have him in the OD lineup, it seems silly not to have given him the reps in Texas. Unless he's there for a gameday decision (which it can't be, since it needs to be finalized today). Or simply to be with the team Opening Day and then go back to extended Spring.

Means I can listen to the game during my drive home from work. Likewise, Looking forward to getting a mix of radio and TV on the first game. It being Easter and 'transfer beer to secondary' weekend should make it go faster. And I have a daughter/doctor thing to deal with on Tuesday to keep me busy through the worst baseball day of the year. I'm more impatient for the wait until the _next_ Monday, when I get back to Citi for the first time in like 8 months. Word is Murphy is going to meet the team in Washington. This seems..I dunno. I feel like if they were confident he was ready to go they'd have brought him to Texas and at least gave him DH swings. Maybe he's with the team OD, then goes back to Extended Spring and meets the team in NY.

But I think they would benefit from a smart talk show, to counter all of the dumb talk shows that they have in abundance. A Bob Costas and/or 60 Minutes kind of thing that would, in each episode, take a serious in-depth look at a local sports issue. do those exist? even in a non-Mets sense? The Mets are picking up. ratings will go up this season, and with it advertising and therefore budget money. Perhaps it'll lead towards something interesting. Probably not, but who knows. I don't watch SNY besides the games. I guess there are some things I'd tune in for, like the Mets broadcaster trivia thing that I actually missed last year, but mostly I spend so much of my free time on the Mets as it is that it's hard to add in MORE. I can't imagine i'm in the minority here. Sure, the minority of us diehards will try to tune in for a few of the specials, but is Bandwagon Barry going to? I know people like to hate on Beer Money, but casual bar trivia is exactly the kind of thing that gets the channel kept on in bars and the like.
  6. I think the Marlins have some talent, but are mostly trash. I don't get why they seem like a trendy pick.
  7. I think we might see a little different managing from Terry this year. Certainly not suggesting he's going to get that innovative, but I think I expect to see a lot less patience in general. He's always been a manager to fall in love, and I think this could lean more towards him deciding to say keep Familia in the 9th if he blew 'em away in the 8th.
  8. they started at noon. Spring Training is done, a couple of exhibitions now.
  9. how did I change arbitration into nitration? is it because I was half-writing a BeerGraphs post about the Old Howling Bastard I had on nitro last weekend?
  10. or grow more hair to fill the space?
  11. Edgy MD wrote: The thing is that exact day is something akin to guesswork. you're thinking of the Super 2 nitration date. The service time calendar is mapped out pretty precisely.
  12. or, you know, SNY For those of us local. Or KMOX1120 for those of us at work.

According to Baseball Reference, Lagares wouldn't become a free agent until after 2019. So if the new contract covers his first year of free agency, wouldn't it have to run through 2020? A contract starting in 2015 would have to be a six-year contract in order to do that. Probably starts in 2016. Seems like it might not be finalized yet though. Guess that's we get for listening to ESPN for hard facts.

I've only been to two parks in recent years, but in my experience, the umbrella drinks are reserved for the clubs or the swells in exclusive sitting. I've only been to the one in the last little bit, (I'm due! Traveling to a different one with a 8-15 month old can't be tough right?!) but they've had booze the entire time. I remember seeing some at Oakland Coliseum years ago, and other places.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: And Harangatang is the #2 starter. Phillies have also announced they will be selling wine and cocktails on the concourse this season. Which isn't really...news except it makes for a good joke. Many/Most team sell cocktails and wine.
  19. The Phillies Opening Day center fielder will be a second baseman who's never played above double-A.

  21. I didn't really keep track historically for this to be interesting for me, but I do know, thanks to At-Bat, my last 40 games. All at Citi Field (i'm due for a trip) I'm 15-24. I've seen 9 Nats games and they've won them all. 2 Yankees games and they've won both. dammit.
  22. Torres is under control, young, not limited to a LOOGY (and getting Blevins helps that be true), and seems to be pretty good. And they bought low because he a had an iffy year, though not bad, last year.
  23. d'Kong76 wrote: I took like, but would have took somewhat like if available. They needed some lefties, they got some lefties. Yeah. This is where I am. I think it's a good trade but den Dekker wasn't worthless and Blevins might turn out to be. But it's unlikely to be bad either.
  24. beat him in Words with Friends in 2011.
  25. hard to project bullpens a lot of times, but I really like ours.
