World Champion with the Giants last year. had a good year.2/$16 pretty good deal for the fish. annual performance bonus: $0.25M for 550 plate appearances he's exactly 3 days older than I am. been rated pretty poorly as a defender, but getting most of the time at first with the Marlins so far instead of the outfield. feast or famine type guy. Drives the ball but strikes out a ton. Overall, a pretty good hitter, one of the few the Marlins have with any reliability.
  2. Dillon Gee vs. Jarred Cosart Jarred came over to the Marlins in the ..Jake Marisnick trade with the Astros. (is Marisnick the centerpiece of that deal? mostly a minors swap?) Pitched pretty well for the Marlins, not as well the former Colt-45s. He's supposedly got quality pitchers but rarely executes them well. He doesn't strike guys out and has command issues.
  3. Nevermind that the (current) Mets have hit Chase Utley 9 times in 144 PA. What's that over 162, like 45 times? The Mets have hit him 27 times in 173 games. That's 5 more than anyone else (Marlins) But it's probably more about Chase Utley, who's been hit 170 times. He's the active leader. He's 15th all time. Edgy: any particular posts you noticed about this? I was going to tweet out these facts but perhaps I'll write up a post instead.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: The narrative that 'our hitters get thrown at but our pitchers rarely retaliate' is one that fans everywhere embrace as something that applies to their team in particular. Everyone mishandles their bullpen too.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Ruben getting applause?! verge of a sweep, Has a hit, Mets are winning..perfect storm.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: I'm having one of those weeks where everyone seems to be setting me up for a "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" punchline. These things tend to come to a head.
  7. 1. Granderson 2. d'Arnaud 3. Duda 4. Cuddyer 5. Murphy 6. Campbell 7. Lagares 8. Tejada 9. Niese
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: For whatever reason it feels like Dilson's star dimmed this spring while Reynolds' brightened considerably. But if you really want to go alternative rock, here's an idea: Trade for Chase Figgin Utley. Do it in a second I would, probably. Bah, guys busted.
  9. SWEEP TIME! Wright to DL. Campbell up. #42 will play third base for the Mets. Phillies will pitch Jerome Williams. Jackie Robinson Day. Original Met Al Jackson will throw out the first pitch to Mookie Wilson. Granderson will participate in the pregame ceremony as well.
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Any word on Cuddyer? I assume he's "day to day"? He claimed he'd be fine last night, but I don't think we'll get any definitive answers on this stuff until guys report to the ballpark.
  11. don't jinx it now. ;-)
  12. Lefty Specialist wrote: I think they've finally proven to themselves that a 4-man bench isn't optimal. They got away with it for 7 games but it nearly bit them in the ass tonight. I dunno, if the bullpen thing works for them... It's a freak thing that you get two injuries in the same game. the odds against that are rare. I think it works early, ease your pitchers into things, your starters don't go as long, etc.
  13. But Campbell pulled from the game, so.. yeah.
  14. RealityChuck wrote: Soup tomorrow. I think I'd prefer Matt Reynolds? I dunno.
  15. Ashie62 wrote: David is an old 31. so much so that he's actually 32! Sucks. He probably shouldn't be trying to slide unnaturally.
  16. d'Kong76 wrote: Wow, coupla Harvelous starts and they won't have to do the supposedly much needed Gee salary dump to stay afloat! oh, they just saved a million plus on Mejia though!
  17. Gwreck wrote: The Mets are currently (as of 12:30 PM EDT) offering only 1402 remaining seats for sale for tonight. I don't know how they count the luxury suites and group sales areas in attendance, but unless they're playing games with ticket availability, the paid attendance should exceed 40k. yup, if you go to the ticket map on the site there are very few tickets available for purchase. they even have 600 tickets in the Big Apple Seats which I assume were recently released when they couldn't/didn't get a group sale for it. those seats are only $20 though, so at least it's not super gouging. it's a cheap game. I don't know when/if dynamic pricing kicks in, but it doesn't seem to have been too fierce.
  18. it's an entertainment business and the 150 or so 'major' sporting venues will always copy from each other in ideas. It's not like a singalong is a particularly innovative, unique, or exclusive idea. hell, the 7th inning stretch and Take Me Out to the Ballgame were the same, without even any local team customization.
  19. HahnSolo wrote: On TV, Colon's ovation sounded pretty good too. yeah Colon did good. Mostly positive all around besides Tejada and a little Flores
  20. re cheers: It was Wright Harvey deGrom Teufel Lagares and Duda pretty high too.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Did Mayor De Blasio go with "deBLASIO," "d'BLASIO," or "den BLASIO" on his jersey? I dunno but he was booed worse than anyone on either team.
  22. d'Kong76 wrote: I'm curious to see how many fannies Harvelous puts in the seats on what is traditionally a very small gate. Gonna be relatively mild this evening for an April game with light wind. reportedly, it's going to be a nice crowd. They released the 'expected attendance' in the press box, so we should get those reports with the game notes/lineup later.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: I agree that, apart from borrowing culturally from the Red Sox, "Piano Man" is not a superior song to "Sweet Caroline." Moreover, it's something of a downer for the seventh-inning stretch. Not that a weekday day game isn't an appropriate time to sing about businessmen getting stoned, but still. "Piano Man"? Rilly? well, 8th inning. but yeah, a little bit mellow. Maybe it's like the Nats trying to lull the opponent to sleep with tunes during BP?
  24. I hear Matt Harvey is pitching tonight.
