He and Bubba Trammell were the two reserve outfielders that were shocked to find themselves leapfrogged by a virtually unknown Timo Perez, coming on to pick up most of the playing time made available by the injury to Derek Bell right as the post-season was getting under way. arguably costing the Mets a World Series title.
  2. I'm trying to balance this "doesn't want a big market/center of attention" thing with the free for all 'The Decision' nature of this posting.
  3. he's significantly younger though, so you'd at least reap the 'good' years. And Castillo's contract on Hernandez in 2018 probably is a steal.
  4. hey look it's Luis Castillo!

  6. the ICE stuff is what has me the most worried. Someone up high says "round up all the non-white folk" and everyone down the line just does it, even as it's completely illegal and inhumane. Where are the stories of the guys at the airport for the Muslim ban that were sneaking people out the back door into the country Underground Railroad style? More to the point, why aren't there stories of that?

I wonder what Harv's up to these days; I could see him showing up in camp in the best shape of his life and I could also see him showing up two belt holes fatter with another chin or two. I'm not sure which one would actually be better for him though. There's probably an argument for some girth and an offseason of rest for the arm. My amateurish analysis suspects he needed a bit of a reboot in terms of command/delivery/approach. I'd actually bet high on Harvey and the new pitching coach, because the 'stuff' of his pitches still seemed to be good.

  9. Edgy MD wrote: It's a good coincidence? Who was the Japanese player the Mets had (or sought) that had a wife whose whole gig seemed to be taking pictures with food? Or was it a Korean? Dae-sung Koo? Mukbang (or muk-bang; Korean: 먹방; meokbang; lit. "eating show") is an online audiovisual broadcast in which a host eats large quantities of food while interacting with their audience. Usually done through an internet webcast (such streaming platforms include Afreeca), mukbang became popular in South Korea in the 2010s.[1][2][3] Foods ranging from pizza to noodles are consumed in front of a camera for an internet audience (who pay or not, depending on which platform one is watching).
  10. The Mets _did_ announce a revamping of their medical process back in October. coincidence?

Experiments are always worthwhile, but I'd not only want the Tigers to throw in some $$, but also some less unstable talent too. jose reyes 2017 0.246 / 0.313 / 0.413 with a wOBA of 0.312. fangraphs has him at 2.0 WAR miggy cabrera 2017 0.249 / 0.329 / 0.399 with a wOBA of 0.313. fangraphs has him at -0.2 WAR yikes... positional adjustment for the WAR, but yeah.
  12. Will be interesting to see if they like, skip a start here or there or if he actually gets hurt in a way that doesn't affect his swing. We could get injury updates on an active player!
  13. I nailed the ERA but that feels like luck. ultimately he was used like 4x as much as I thought he would've been especially considering his control numbers were garbage. 4.38 BB/9! That's bad!
  14. Centerfield wrote: A few guys on the internets are saying Dodgers now. Imagine if the Dodgers get Ohtani and Stanton? Holy crap. literally listen to no one. There's pretty much zero info out there on what Ohtani actually wants, including to play the field, how much he expects/wants to hit, does he want big city or small, what type of lifestyle, is he looking to be the center of attention/#1 star or blend in? etc. Some teams have literally been scouting him, though to what extent they've formed a relationship with him is unknown, since 2012 or so. I found some interviews where he says he doesn't like walking down the streets in town and being accosted/known/famous. But maybe he's grown out of that by now. But does that mean he'd rather play in NYC where it's much easier to blend in on the streets because most people don't watch baseball anyway, or a smaller city where more people will know him but fewer will hassle him with the same intensity? This includes marketing. People push the idea of him being able to sell himself to Toyota for millions as part of the selling points, but is he actually looking to be that level of star?
  15. damn, papers really game to have Ohtani be a subway series showdown aren't they?
  16. Edgy MD wrote: It's more of a kimono than a sari, but I couldn't resist. I wonder if Eno Sarris hangs with Voros McCracken. Not that I know of.
  17. i didn't check off Chipper either.
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: We should make him a strict short reliever and call him "Two-Minute Minor." If he gives up a game-losing HR up in the zone the Post can make the cover a photo of the swing "Two-Minute Minor for High Sticking"
  19. Not so much a converted starter as an injury-rehab type guy. He was relieving because they didn't want to jump the workload. i assume those projections are starter numbers, and honestly that's pretty cheap for someone with his potential (reliably and decent pitcher, which doesn't come cheap) and now I guess flexibility to pitch out of the pen. Hell, he could be that 110 IP reliever the Mets could lean on for large chunks if/when a starter is laboring early and pulled after two times through. Shoulder surgery. labrum. but he pitched last year, and some the year before. He's throwing much harder, and as a result striking out a ton more guys. Probably the short-stint/reliever stuff, and wouldn't translate back to a starter? I'd consider him in some role. Could be very useful.
  20. all aboard isn't very good, but it's the only one that's not terrible.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: He's been darn good three of the last four years. If the terms are good, then he's got the potential to be an upgrade or an effective reserve. Comparable to Duda as a starter or the lefty off the bench they haven't really had. yeah no. Over the last four years Duda has a wRC+ of 86 against lefties, and Lind has had a 49. Duda's been worth 7.4 fWAR and Lind has been worth 4.2 123 wRC+ to 117. Duda has him 3 SB to 1 too. Duda's pretty much better all around except Lind gets more singles but Lind is unplayable against lefties and Duda generally doesn't kill you there at least. If Lind was a righty and you wanted to give Smith liberal days off until he can prove himself, fine. But as a meh platoon guy that only plays one position? Waste of a bench spot especially if the Mets might be playing that short. I'd rather see the Mets work out Plawecki and d'Arnaud there occasionally, and do the C-1B thing.
  22. he's "among the names" they'll consider until they look at his splits and think "no thanks"
  23. I'd be awfully concerned about Cabrera's plummeting power.
  24. trick question, Shohei Otani? otherwise, Darvish.
