  1. Kipnis is better. Granted, so is Walker. Machado's desire to play SS doesn't really factor in once he has a contract. I suspect strongly that there's some preening there, he'd certainly open up more options, and more money, with SS on the table. Are the Orioles going to play him there some? I'm not sure where/who I want the Mets to target in the super class next year, I guess I'll worry about that next year. I don't love Frazier, but I'd take him I guess as a 1B/3B type guy. I know I'm not allowed to talk about David Wright playing as anything but a flight of fancy, but I sorta envision like 45 games from him this year.

That's correct. all three counts. edit: that didn't make sense. you're correct on the first two counts, incorrect on the third in that it WAS The correct link.

Teams tend to get an idea of whether team in front of them has their eye on a player. With the Mets drafting 12 slots ahead of the Royals, this was the equivalent of the trading-to-move-up move common to the NFL amateur draft. Someone should compile a list of these things, I bet you could use it as a sense of GM friendliness. Basically an IOU for a favor later, perhaps the Mets want to grab someone on the August waiver wire when the Royals suck and pick first.
  4. Centerfield wrote: Sure, it could. And Harvey might bounce back. But again, we are hoping for everything to go right. A few quality arms in the mix really improves those chances. One outstanding arm changes the equation even more. I mean, not _Everything_ just a few things. I'd like to see them nudge the odds a bit too, but I've already said I want the Mets to get Darvish. I'm not particularly enamored with banking on last year's relievers as the 'quality arms' and find bullpens to be much more fluid. I'm not worried about adding those guys now, they'll be around, whether it's January, March, or July. About Gerritt Cole? Rumored to be available. Solid above average type guy. Might be a good filler guy. I guess I could start a thread.
  5. The Mets team run creation was exactly the same as the Nationals. The pitching crashed, but Syndergaard back should bridge a ton of that. less garbage mop-up starters in a lost season. Maybe a veteran pickup, or maybe Wheeler or Matz or someone picks it up. It's not hard to see the pitching hold up this year, and that puts them right in the thick of it.
  6. Centerfield wrote: Word among the beat writers is that Alderson is basically done with the bullpen. And as we already knew, he's not addressing the rotation. I wouldn't get too into season by season ERA by combined bullpens. the Mets have some solid arms there. "we'll see. We wanted to acquire an extra arm. We feel the bullpen is a relative strength. Will probably be looking elsewhere for the next upgrade" That's not quite 'no other reliever" it's simply, we're going to go address other holes.
  7. Jeter isn't even really the one making the deals though.
  8. he went to Cleveland in 2015 and started striking guys out and getting good results. I wonder who the pitching coach was, we should talk to him.
  9. Sandy is definitely partially trolling sometimes with this stuff.
  10. weird numbers. learned out to strike guys out recently and got 'good'? He's been good-ish the last two years, the Yankee year he just got victimized by some bad fly-ball luck/little league stadium. I'm a fan I think.

  13. Bryan Shaw isn't particularly much of anything.

  16. Man, look at those through the order splits. 9.24 K/9 to 6.13 the second time through. Shouldn't have taken this long to make him a reliever. This is the second guy I've looked up in two days that the Mets are 'interested in' that's a converted starter. Wonder if Sandy thinks that's an exploitable thing. 205 innings at 3.38 ERA as a reliever. 26.4 K%. 3.05 FIP. NL average ERA/FIP was 4.18/4.19 so he's..okay?
  17. still lots of time to go. this also applies to anyone googling Fred Wilpon's home address btw. I mean, Torres will be down until 4/15 for the extra year of control at the very least. People speculate they'll get a bland veteran like Frazier back to hold the fort. but they probably need two infielders, unless they're gonna mix and match. But as of right now? I don't think they're a better team. they're probably worse.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: So, is Miguel Andujar and his eight career plate appearances now their #1 thirdbaseman? With the scarecely-more-experienced Ronald Torreyes at second? They've got this other guy Gleyber Torres apparently, who's the #2 prospect according to mlb, for whatever that's worth. 2b/3b. He got about 100 PA in AAA before Tommy John surgery. I guess they can just roll with the unproven but highly regarded rookie. I mean, I know everyone says the Mets will suck going with two of them, so i dunno.
  19. Flexen too I guess. Who'll be at the QBC.
  20. deGrom, Thor, Gsellman, Harvey, Lugo, Matz, Montero, Wheeler right? or is one of them under the knife and I forgot? It's hard to keep track. technically that's 8 guys for 5 spots already.
  21. I mean, i wanted Ohtani AND Darvish. Sandy's phrased it as more of a reliable workhorse type. I doubt they're trading Harvey too, unless they're blown away with something.
  22. basically it's a straight salary dump because they can't afford to keep Headley.
  23. Jeter did make it to the Dolphins game though.
  24. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Were both those tweets really at the same time? In that dude Evan Grant's article, he shows a different Heyman tweet w/out the reference to Grant's piece. Was wondering if Heyman made the edit to show his source? Or Heyman found it and added it as a second voice to back his rumor? I dont understand twitter all that much. I'm not sure, I didn't actually read that article as it was just Rangers speculation. Their was someone else that was talking about the Rangers and Mets talking, but I'm not sure who made the connection to the rumors to pick those players. Both Heyman and Grant were tweeting about it in general. It's just noise.
  25. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Oh and Ceets, it's unlikely any teammate is gonna say to a beat writer, "that Matt Harvey is an asshole" but after he showed up late after partying, one anonymous teammate said this anyway: https://nypost.com/2017/05/09/extremely-embarrassed-matt-harvey-begs-mets-for-forgiveness/ “Actions speak louder than words,” one Mets teammate said after Harvey apologized for skipping Saturday’s game, leading to the right-hander receiving a three-game suspension from the club. “We’ve all been out late, but you’ve got to show up. You’ve got to go to work.” Sounds very David Wright-y, but it's still criticism from a teammate. That's not made up. It's not nothing. Agree. it's not nothing. That's the one major issue you'd point to. But it also reads as "you screwed up" more than "you're a bad person".
