  1. I left Jersey as a toddler so I have no recollection of it at all.
  2. I don't understand what all the handwringing is about. No-hitters are awesome! We love the Mets! Thus, a Mets pitcher getting a no-hitter is awesome! I'd never seen a no-hitter happen live, either at the ballpark or on tv. And then one night about 10 years ago I tuned into a game of my favorite team and saw a no hitter. It was my first no-hitter and my team's first no-hitter, and it was great! As I've noted before, I felt so emotional that I wept a little. I really don't understand why anyone could think this is a bad thing.
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: I suspect what the book Willets cites is saying is not that the kid who grew up from a Liverpool FC onesie to season-ticket holding/red scarf wearing super-fan as an adult will suddenly change his spots and claim to be an Everton fan on a whim, only that that type of one-team-forever fan represents a smaller percentage of total fans than is generally believed. This is correct. Also the book was about English Football, which I neglected to mention.
  4. I read a book called Soccernomics and one of the things they tested was the conventional wisdom that the largest demographic of fans were the diehards who supported the same football club their entire lives. They found in reality that the vast majority of fans attending games and watching on tv changed their allegiance at least once over the course of their lifetimes. I suspect the same holds true for American sports fans. And in a multi-team city like New York there is a sizable block of people who root for all of their hometown teams.
  5. Born in Mountain View. Very good chance his parents worked for a Silicon Valley tech company.
  6. I love how Gary Cohen looks like he's conducting an orchestra.
  7. Naturally I tuned in just in time to see Marte's RBI hit.
  8. This is the type of game that would make Bob Murphy utter a mild curse.
  9. While many of the bands in batmagadanleadoff's list are not from the United States, I'd agree that there are a ton of US classic rock bands I'd enjoy listening to more than Aerosmith (who I'm "meh" on) and the Eagles (who I despise).
  10. Hooray for a leadoff base runner! Now,https://www.penninemusic.com/images/bring.jpg>
  11. Just as long as he doesn't bump as well.
  12. Sweet Jesus, that was a hell of a catch!
  13. Does anyone who watches MLB.TV get a Mastercard commercial with David Ortiz talking about how Mastercard and the Red Sox are helping small businesses? I figure that it's in my feed based on my location but it still feels strange to have it playing every commercial break on my Mets-only MLB.TV subscription.
  14. I was working on a one-legged flautist joke and you just go and post the picture there. Sigh.
  15. Vig Sage, previously known as Big Ralph and Norrin Radd, was one of the CPF greats!
  16. This totally looks like one of those threads the I participated in early on and then checked out after others got into endless bickering and arguing.
  17. Suzyn's deadpan "Because Stanton caught the ball" is hilarious.
  18. The Blue Jays have a lot of talent but always seem to roll over for the Yankees. Hopefully that ends tonight.
  19. Goodbye Yankee castoff!
  20. Cano cannot.
  21. Party of Five gets my vote. The others are underwhelming and generic.
  22. To think that just a year ago people were aggrieved that this douchebag wasn't signed by the Mets. Biggest bullet dodged ever!
