  1. ]Instead, the word from Yankees public-relations chief Rick Cerrone yesterday was that Derek Jeter was leaving town later in the afternoon. He's not staying to watch the Mets? Pity.
  2. ="Frayed Knot"]Torre = UNcanned (although maybe not un-caned) So Madden used his access and ran with a "scoop" that turned out to be either: - George throwing a temper tantrum that eventually blew over and Billy M. jumped the gun by assuming it was a final decision OR - it was true at the time but George was talked out of it by those in the org loyal to Torre 3rd option - Yankees allowed the story to float in the media a couple of days to gauge fan/media/player reaction.
  3. This is Mets related.
  4. Just want to point out that this is called IGT and there's going to be no more "in-game's" for the Yankees this year. MWAHAHAHAHA!!!
  5. Hmm...think he can play second base? Think about it, he doesn't need to be captain, or face of the team, or "intangible", he just needs to be a good player in a strong lineup. The pressure is off, plus he'd be fired up to prove himself. I'd do it if the price is right.
  6. I suck at predictions. So...the Yankess will dominate!!!!!
  7. As a Star Trek geek I love that the device is called a Jordy (although then it should be spelled Geordie). I was watching that game in a bar with no sound so I had no idea they were mocking the guy. As soon as I saw it I figured it was a device to improve vision for the visually-impaired and stupidly assumed they were talking about it as such.
  8. Yancy, is there that big a difference in tallying up for playoff series than for a month of the season? I mean can't you just treat the series like a month or is it more complicated than that?
  9. Damn liberal media!
  10. Les Tigres des Detroit!
  11. Hold that tiger Hold that tiger Hold that tiger Hold that tiger Hold that tiger Hold that tiger Hold that tiger Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger?

Yancy Street Gang wrote: ="Dave Howard"]The black was added as a style element based on some degree of research of fans in terms of what was popular in the marketplace, Dave Howard, the Mets executive vice president of business operations, said on Thursday. At the time, our traditional hats and uniforms were selling hardly at all. They were selling hardly at all because the Mets had pretty much sucked for six or seven years. The black was introduced in 1998, the same year as Mike Piazza and a near miss at a Wild Card berth. People would have started buying more Mets merchandise that year anyway. I think other teams have demonstrated that you can sell merch in all sorts of crazy designs without the team actually wearing them on the field.
  13. SteveJRogers wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]So do it and post it in this thread. Just because you "called it" doesn't mean everyone else has to defer. Then don't tell me to defer to Elster when I say I could close and do the totals for the NLDS POGTs because I happenend to get the first POGT thread up 4 hours after the game ended I just want to point out that I was not criticizing Steve in the other thread. I just hadn't heard Steve was doing the PotG's before and figured it was worth pointing out to avoid duplication of work which I expect would be frustrating to whomever got their stuff up first. Being a lazy person myself, I know if someone else is doing something I plan to do I consider it a break for me. Whether Elster or Steve or Yancy does PotG tallying matters little to me. Great KTE contributions by everyone.
  14. ]I sat in the same box as Tony Roberts, the actor, watching the Dodgers jump on him for an early 6-run lead. Well of course the Dodgers jumped on Tony Roberts for an early lead. He's an actor not a pitcher. And apparently he's pitching from the box seats. I expect all those runs scored on walks.
  15. We can only hire Joe if he's player-coach.
  16. smg58 wrote: ="Edgy DC"]cleonjones11 will be so disappointed. Has anybody heard from Cleon lately? If the Mets lose a single game to the Cardinals he'll be sure to drop by.
  17. This year does feel like the 80's all over again. Among the eliminated teams too, the Dodgers (81,88) last won in the 80's and the Twins (87,91) in the late 80's/early 90's.
  18. silverdsl wrote: ="Willets Point"]Bumping this thread just in case we have to welcome aboard any "diehard" Yankees fans looking to make a switch. This Yankee fan won't be making a switch no matter how disappointing the team is at the moment. I do understand how some fans feel more and less passionately at times about the teams that they're a fan of, but it's hard for me to relate to abandoning one team completely and jumping on the bandwagon of another team. And that's why we like you.

  20. Good the Padres win tonight and then tomorrow and during the day Tuesday there are torrential downpours in San Diego, forcing the final game to start late Tuesday night and that game goes 18 innings.
  21. That's interesting, with no NLDS, how is that the NLCS started this late into October? They must've played a lot more regular season games in October then.
  22. When playing the Wild Card team in the League Divisional Series: The Mets win when it counts, sweeping their opponent in dominating fashion. The Yankees vaunted lineup fails to produce and they fall to a more cohesive team in four games. I love being wrong.
  23. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Glavine went 7 or more 10 times this season, about one third of his starts. Ugh, I didn't think it was that bad.
  24. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Having said that, I'd like to see some of the starters pitch into, and complete, the 7th or even the 8th inning in the NLCS. There's no reason to think that Glavine and Trachsel and Maine can't do that. I have reason to think that Glavine can't do that since he so often is pulled in the 5th or 6th inning, but maybe he can go the extra mile in the playoffs.
