  1. Should I be worried that the Mets have dropped back to back games to our two most hated rivals? That they've allowed a shitload of runs in the past couple of weeks? That the offense is up and down like a yo-yo? Or should I just quit being so goddamed crabby?
  2. Isn't the theory behind the draft that it prevents rich teams from stockpiling lots of talent in the minors when those players may be good enough to actually be starting players on other teams? That is the kids' careers are hurt toiling in Dubuque waiting for Wally Slugger to twist his ankle in New York when they could be starting everyday for the Royals. I'm not really arguing for or against the draft, I just want to verify if you all think that example is an advantage for the players.
  3. Just in case you need to know.

  6. Gwreck wrote: I think you can get half the answers by just using Todd Zeile and Julio Franco. I didn't mention this but you're not supposed to repeat any players, so Zeile and Franco can only be used once each.
  7. Also Bud @#*! and John @*#!!er.
  8. The Squid returns today around 4 pm. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
  9. Saw this on Faith and Fear in Flushing and thought it would be fun to try here. Basically you just need to try to list a player who first comes to mind as someone who played for the Mets and played for another team for each team in MLB. A Met and a... 10. My suspicions are that performance-enhancing drugs -- whether they be 'roids, HGH, or amphetamines -- were (are?) used widely throughout baseball by many players on every team. This is why the whole witch hunt to single out offenders is ridiculous and I prefer an effort to eliminate use of performance-enhancing drugs now and in the future. The would be more productive imho than finding a few scapegoats to strip of records and awards.
  11. After watching that I'm thinking that anyone seeing that for the first time is probably saying "Willets, how can you find a man being virulently racist and making a woman cry to be funny?" But really it's funny in context. Basil Fawlty played by John Cleese is like Archie Bunker in that he is an unrepentant bigot that makes you cringe as much as you laugh. In this scene he's particularly uninhibited because he's left the hospital without permission after receiving some painkillers.
  12. Actually it's "Don't mention the war." Masterpiece of comedy.
  13. This thread will not mention the Yankees.
  14. Reminds me more of 2XL, who was the best use of 8-track tapes ever:

  16. I love m.e.t.b.o.t. Best forum character since Horace P. Osterdunk.
  17. This week's flashbacks: Edgy and others display a whole lot of lovin' for Jorge Julio. A Pirate KTE devolves into pirate speak. The fascination with Kevin Elster, discussed. And from the Non Baseball Forum, the strangest poll in Crane Pool history. Well, at least at that time.
  18. Nor a good robot.
  19. m.e.t.b.o.t. is on a tear.
  20. George Bush spoke at my graduation. He basically said "kinder, gentler" nation, "1000 points of light," and told a joke about long speeches. I was appreciative that his speech was short.

  23. It's not. Easley gets credit for a walk earlier in the game.
  24. It's fun to go back to the beginning of the season and then slide it along and watch the Yankees drop.
