  1. ="AG/DC"] In Bats, Davey actually writes about Cashen telling him that he was trying to swing a deal to get Seaver back in mid-1995, but Johnson discourages him, because he doesn't want to mess up the 1986 rotation. He may have thrown away the 1985 division right there (depends, of course, on who the Mets give up) and they ended up going out to get Ojeda for the 1986 rotation anyhow. The other reason is that by 1995, Seaver was 9 years retired and Johnson was managing the Reds.

  3. I would love for the Mets to have a AAA team in the IL North so I can see them play road games in Pawtucket again. The IL has an unbalanced schedule so even when the Mets had the Tides in the IL South they only visited Pawtucket once per season.
  4. Those guys who decide they want to stand up during a pivotal moment during a game and make that upward gesture with their arms to make everyone else stand up... They deserve to be caned.

  6. AG/DC wrote: I love 'em. I just think death announcements and silent threads shouldn't be the same thread. People get all silent in a thread and those of us already talking feel stupid. We need one place to talk about these folks, and one not to. I think its nice to have them all together. Some people have a great story to tell at the wake, some people just shuffle quietly past the coffin. This is especially true for those of you who say actually know who Don Cardwell is as opposed to those of us who just want to show a bit of respect to a former Met.
  7. R.I.P. Johnny. Curt Schilling posted a personal tribute on his blog.

  9. A day in the life of several Angelinos, all of whom tend to be awful people who are blatantly racist and spout ham-fisted dialog. Along the way they have moments of heroics and frailty to show that their human, all done in a manipulative manner to rend ones heart. At the end, we all learn a big fat lesson about race relations in America. Its like that song One Tin Soldier, only less subtle.

  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Just because that's what the Twins are asking for, it doesn't mean the deal can't be done for less. Who are we competing against? If recent accounts are to be believed, it's at most, two teams. Perhaps less than that. Play it cool and let them come to us. Keep talking about Blanton. Let the Twins know that we can go elsewhere. Don't just leap at the first expensive package that will allegedly "get the job done." Most sensible post yet. There's definitely room to negotiate. The Twins know that they'll have to accept 3-4 prospects now or a lot less come July.
  15. AG/DC wrote: ="attgig"]you're saying, when we traded for piazza, he was just a prospect? When we traded for Foster, was he a Hall of Famer? And yet Foster made more and better contributions to the Mets than Steve Chillcott, Shawn Abner, and Paul Wilson.
  16. I'd do it. Getting a top-notch starter for 2008 will make me join TITTS.
  17. Good to see Edgy posting again after a long absence. While you were gone there was this newbie AG/DC who posts so much like Edgy DC that I almost thought it was you. Is AG a family relation?
  18. Good luck to anyone who does Toronto which substitutes as a filming location for just about every US city but is rarely the setting itself.

  22. San Francisco has Bullitt and all or most of the Dirty Harry films. The Bond film with the Christopher Walken villian is also set there in part. St. Pete also has Loren Cass and, um, Cocoon: The Return, I guess. No excuse for forgetting Dirty Harry. Tales of the City is also iconic San Francisco. Electric Dreams is a lesser-known favorite of mine.
