  1. Simple contest. Predict the final standings for the 2008 MLB season as well as the post-season contenders all the way to the World Series. You can include W-L record predictions if you like but it's not required. You have until Sunday March 30th at 8 pm to post/edit your predictions.

  8. I originally did it that way and then when the criticisms flooded in that I was not giving enough lauds to a certain CPF favorite I made a formula based on the box score that award points in a non-biased manner. I still got criticisms of under/over-valuing player contributions, so I kept tweaking the formula and it eventually grew into a 30-minute-per-game process. It's just not worth my time and effort to continue to be accused of bias in voting when I've done everything in my power to remove it.
  9. I'm not going to participate this year. I found it too time-consuming to spend 30 minutes a day running the boxscores through a complex formula. And usually after doing all that I'd either have a new asshole torn for not awarding enough points to a certain pitcher or Yancy would have already closed the thread and my vote would count for nothing.
  10. Well I've been fond of him for quite a while.
  11. I think you could write a book called "Stalking Obscure Mets" where you randomly show up at Josias Manzanillo's family reunion and hide in the back of John Pacella's car. The book will write itself!

  16. Actually, Spitzer is Client # 9. Danny Partridge still stands (because I don't know who he is).

  18. I hadn't heard that MLB is cracking down on people blogging and posting pictures from games they attend but came across this article on the topic: Major League Baseball vs Bloggers: A Librarian's Perspective. Sounds like more pettiness on the part of MLB to punish people for promoting their product.

  22. I went to the cafeteria for lunch and decided to eat there instead of bringing back lunch to my office which I usually do. I was rewarded by seeing that this game was on the big screen tv in the dining room. On the down side, I got to see the Indians score 4 runs off my Ollie and some really shoddy fielding by anonymous Mets.

Seaver, Gooden, Dykstra, Wilson, and Hundley are not allowed for starters. Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, and Santana are also no-no's, although maybe they're permitted in the Spanish-language version of Scrabble.
  24. Playing Scrabble online I've come across several names of Mets players which are also valid Scrabble words: AGEE PIAZZA WRIGHT KNIGHT JOHNSON VALENTINE STRAWBERRY HUNT GENTRY VAIL REED COOK SMITH SHAW MILLER Can you think of any more? Here's an online dictionary if you need to verify: http://www.scrabulous.com/twl_dictionary.php.
