until they move Bruce or Granderson, i think Conforto starts in AAA, with Nimmo in the role of 5th OFer/LH bat off bench. Nimmo's skills translate better to a backup, and his ceiling isn't as high as Conforto, so i think they'd rather see Conforto playing everyday instead of sitting on the bench. Whereas Nimmo is likely nothing more than a bench player anyway, so might as well get him started there.

2017 projected pitching staff: Starters: Syndegaard, deGrom, Harvey, Matz, Gsellman CL: Familia (if suspended, Reed)* CL/set-up: Reed Set-up: Robles Situational LH: Blevins Situational RH: Salas 2nd LH: Smoker long-man/spot SP: Wheeler * * if Wheeler starts on DL, or if Famila is suspended, = Lugo Other pitchers on 40-man roster: - LHP: Smoker, Edgin, Gilmartin - RHP: Goeddel, Montero, Ynoa, Flexen, Molina Non-roster ST invitees: -LHP: Gorzelanny, Conlon, Roseboom, Wilk -RHP: Bradford, McGowan, Rowen, Sewald, C.Taylor, L.Taylor

if a starter performs in the bullpen, it doesn't mean he'll stay there. Starters go down all the time, and spot starts here and there, will all give a SP in the pen an opportunity. If he excels, he'll likely force his way back into the rotation. If he doesn't, he doesn't.

it bored the crap out of me.

no need for Blevins now... we got Gorzelanny!

why are all the posts in BOLD?

Lagares is a useful bench player, with a good glove in CF, a decent baserunner, and a decent bat against LHP, but if they can get back something of value, then ok. They'd still need a guy on the bench to fill those roles, and i don't think we have any that are major-league ready. Maybe Lagares, Lugo and Cecchini for a decent starting CFer?

Shama lama dingdong makes a comeback of sorts, with this solid horror film with an ending that is, while not exactly a twist, puts the film in context, both as a narrative and as a film in his canon.

i'm all for signing a LOOGY, but the ones that are available don't excite me, and they'd cost more than the Wilpons will spend, as long as Bruce is still around. The best case scenario is trading Bruce for 2 serviceable, mid-tier relievers (a LOOGY and a ROOGY), or just one good reliever (LHP or RHP)
-
while i'd be fine with any of those, i don't see a substantial upgrade there from what we have now, namely: Starters: Syndegaard, deGrom, Harvey, Matz, Gsellman CL: Familia (if suspended, Reed)-x CL/set-up: Reed set-up: Robles situational LH: Smoker situational RH: Goeddel long/6th SP: Wheeler-x x- if Wheeler is on DL, or if Famila is suspended, or a 7th RP is added = Lugo other LHPs on 40man: Edgin,Gilmartin other RHPs on 40man: Montero, Ynoa, Flexen, Molina non-roster ST invitees: LHP: P.J. Conlon, David Roseboom, Adam Wilk RHP: Chase Bradford, Kevin McGowan, Ben Rowen, Paul Sewald, Corey Taylor, Logan Taylor Rather than sign one of those relievers on the scrap heap, i'd just as soon trade Bruce for a real set-up guy, to pitch the 8th for Reed. If they think Joe Smith is still that guy, well ok then. --

my preference: [u:1qlhw8nl]vs RHP:[/u:1qlhw8nl] Reyes+ (3b) Granderson* (cf) Walker+ (2b) Cespedes (lf) Bruce* (rf) Cabrera+ (ss) Duda* (1b) d'Arnaud © ---------------- R.Rivera © Lagares (oF) Flores (iF) Wright (3b) Conforto* (oF) TJRivera (uT) [u:1qlhw8nl]vs LHP:[/u:1qlhw8nl] Reyes+ (rf) Wright (3b) Cespedes (lf) Flores (1B) Walker+ (2b) Cabrera+ (ss) d'Arnaud © Lagares (cf) --------------- R.Rivera © Duda* (1b) Granderson* (oF) Bruce* (rf) Conforto* (oF) T.Rivera (uT) * If Wright comes off the DL to start the season, he should be platooned (at most) with Reyes at 3b, since his inadequacy against RHP has continued to worsen over the years. Also, his fragility (and frequent unavailability) will require a 14th man, with 11 pitchers (which i would prefer anyway). Kelly might be preferable to TJRivera as that extra UT guy, only in so far as he's a switch-hitter, and without him we'd have only 1 LH hitter on the bench (against RHP starters). But overall, i'd probably prefer to keep TRivera and live with 1 LH pinch-hitter. Actually, i'd prefer to see Wright just retire and keep both Rivera and Kelly (or another LH bat), and just play Reyes at 3b full time. Plus Rivera can spell Walker against some LHPs, where Walker is usually vulnerable. And overall I would just prefer to have TJ Rivera on the bench (with his live bat and positional flexibility) than a 7th reliever in the pen; * I see Granderson, Duda and Bruce as basically platoon players now, playing against RHPs (with Wright in a platoon against LHP), and i'd prefer to give their ABs against LHPs to Flores, Lagares and Wright (or T.Rivera), with Reyes in the lineup everyday, since we have no other viable leadoff hitter; * I think they should keep Conforto up because he's proven he can tear up AAA, and i think there will ultimately be an injury, trade or sustained lack of production among Bruce, Granderson and/or Duda that will give him everyday ABs somewhere. But if they decide to start him in AAA, i think Nimmo's the LH bat off the bench (or Kelly); and * R.Rivera will catch once a week. Plaweck? Puhleeze. He has to go to Vegas and prove he can hit (to the extent that hitting in Vegas proves anything).

happy to see the love for ARRIVAL and HELL OR HIGH WATER. But Amy Adams got hosed (Meryl? AGAIN?), and they went out of their way to ignore DEADPOOL.

yeah, that.

Vic Sage is high on (well we won't know for sure until the lab comes back with the results) but also Lagares, Salas, Henderson, Kelly; low on Loney, Wright, Conforto, Flores, Reyes how can i be high on my rankings for Salas and Kelly when i didn't even include them? This makes me question your record-keeping. I DEMAND A RECOUNT!

But he has the gift, if that's what it is, of being much better than people realize. I'm drawn to players like that. (Wayne Garrett. Olerud.) i don't think its a gift. It's a skill called On-Base Percentage. Traditional metrics didn't value you it much, but modern metrics do, so those who understand the impact of OBP on productivity have greater respect for those players who may have seemed unexceptional otherwise. That being said, i find Duda so frustrating because of his intense streakiness. It's not like he has a good week and then a bad week. It's like he has a non-existent 2 months, followed by a torrid 6 weeks, and then disappears again. It's hard to count on a player like that.

i thought the rise of the Quants would have an effect on HOF voting, but seeing Hoffman at 72% and Wagner at 11% (when it should probably be the reverse) makes me think we're not as far along as i thought.
-
i also think that the new defensive metrics might be having some impact as well. As those improve, and as younger GMs start to actually take them into consideration, 1-dimensional sluggers with no glove (like our own Mr. Bruce) become less and less valuable, depending on the needs of any particular team. It looks like Seattle is certainly going the speed/defense route.

i loved it, mostly, and I think the complaints i've heard about the lack of singing and dancing ability of Gosling and Stone are both overstated and miss the point. I do think its somewhat overlong and rambling, and a lot of it is lifted without acknowledgment form UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, but its still a terrific piece of filmmaking, and the music is really good.

Oy... I'd say something about "wild horses" now, if i had the energy on a Monday morning.
