    DeGrom gets benefit of a low third strike call on McNeil. McNeil with his characteristic "heart on his sleeve" reaction gets tossed from the game. Rather quick ejection by the home plate ump, but hard to know what McNeil may have said during his outburst. McNeill really needs to tone it down and get his emotions better in check. I'm glad that he cares, but all the bat and helmet slamming gets tiring.

    Well, I'm desperately looking for something positive after another pathetic Mets loss. This is the best I can come up with, at least the Diamondbacks beat the Giants. So the Mets still cling to their 2.0 game lead (2.5 w/ tie-breaker) over the Giants. The Diamondbacks close to within 3.5 games of the Mets. The Padres and Reds are scoreless in the third,. Go Padres!! The Mets need help, because they seem unable to help themselves.

    I won't be surprised if the Mets leave Philadelphia, either tied or with a half game lead for the final Wild Card spot.

    Definitely, it was possible for Mauricio to have scored from first on Vientos' double, but it required a better read and a much quicker break than Mauricio got on the play. Also, Mauricio never seemed to be running all out, he appeared to have assumed that he would be stopped at third base. Mauricio's delayed break on the hit gave Sarbaugh no reasonable option, but to stop him at third base.

    Suarez continues to carve up the Mets line up. Through 6 innings, he has a career high of 12 strike outs. He is proof positive that you don't have to throw 95+ to get hitters out. He is mixing pitches and hitting his spots.

    Suarez has faced 13 hitters and struck out 9 of them. Of course, it's the flailing and failing Mets, but still impressive.

    It appears that the Mets August offensive resurgence has ended.

    Manaea not fooling many hitters. Mets quickly down 2-0 to the Phillies.

    The Mets definitely need to put it together so they can fend off the teams closing in on them for the final wildcard spot. I am starting have serious doubts that they can do it. The have not been a good team (offensively and defensively at the same time) for quite some time. I don't expect it to suddenly change in the final month of the season.

    If Mauricio had mad the turn and headed home, I believe the likelihood of him being safe was minimal. The Phillies would have needed to throw the relay away or the catcher drop the ball for Mauricio to have had a chance of scoring. With smart (percentage play) in my mind, was to hold him and hope that McNeil can get a hit (or hit a sacrifice fly). Unfortunately, McNeil and Alvarez both struck out to end the game. I feel confident, that sending Mauricio would have simply ended the game one batter sooner (on McNeil's strike out) and spared Alvarez his noncompetitive flailing at bat.

    Jett has found it tougher sledding since moving up to AAA Syracuse. In 20 games with Syracuse, he is hitting .215 with .284 OBA. They are moving him around more in Syracuse. He has logged 8 games at shortstop, 8 in CF, and 6 at second base.

    Dad and the young man came out way ahead on the deal. Dad taught his son a valuable lesson on how to act like a decent human being and the young boy got a basket of swag from the Marlins and a meet and greet with Harrison Bader (with an autographed baseball thrown in). "Karen" got to take a MLB baseball home. I hope the "internet sleuths" eventually identify the miserable witch that demanded "my ball", so everyone knows her true character.

    Pagan did his impression of Diaz's, "bend, but don't break" performance of last night. He ultimately, ends it by striking out Alonso on a weak swing at a low slider, that was several inches outside. Well, The Mets really need to take the series with a victory tomorrow. I hope Sproat has a strong debut. The team definitely needs it.

    The bullpen is offering no relief tonight.

    Tong showed good resolve in the face of some adversity. Unfortunately, he got a lesson on the importance of location and mixing in his pitches. The Reds hitters seemed to be sitting on the high fastball. Once Tong started mixing in his change up and at least showing them the curve, he seemed to throw the Reds hitters off. Meanwhile, Stanek is doing his Helsley impersonation.

    Keith comments that Jared Young has "good power" less than a second before he hits a no doubter to right field.

    Singer had Vientos flailing away at sliders off the plate in his last at bat. This at bat he throws Vientos 5-6 straight sliders away. This time, Vientos just watches them and draws the walk. Unfortunately, Baty chased the slider out of the strike zone to strike out and end the inning. Tong on for the 6th inning.

    Singer hit Alonso last at bat. This time, Alonso says, "take that" and hits a line shot to right center for a double off Singer.
